  • This study examines the types of gods worshiped in the homes of Utsunoya village, the places where they are enshrined, the rituals and food offered to the gods, the decorations during the rituals, and the people's beliefs. Also, by comparing the gods worshiped in houses in remote Utsunoya with those of downtown Shizuoka, the differences and changes in the gods worshiped in the two contemporary spaces were predicted. Today, the gods enshrined in Utsunoya's houses are amatelaseu oomikami (天照大神), ancestor, ebisu, daigoku, kojin, inari, the god of the toilet, the god of land, and the god of water. From December 31st to January 3rd and on January 15th, Obon (July 15th), October when there is a festival at the village shrine, and on Ebisu Day (October 19th and 20th), residents offer drinks and food to the gods. Japanese beliefs at home are polytheistic in nature. They maintain national identity through kamidana and maintain family identity through ancestor worship linked to the Buddhist altar. The Japanese beliefs at home are firmly established in the background of the home, the base of family life. Japanese houses have a strong character as a religious space where they coexist "with the gods," and the residents have a cultural tradition of living with the gods.

  • In modern society, cultural heritage has played a role in constituting national identity. The Cultural Heritage Education Project started in the 2000s by the Cultural Heritage Administration was also aware of the issue of sustainable development and cultural diversity as major cultural issues at the time. However, the main purpose of previous cultural heritage education was to foster national identity. The Cultural Heritage Administration has executed cultural heritage education programs since 2006. The education program of the cultural heritage teacher visiting the school, the project to designate a cultural heritage school, and an education program to experience cultural heritage at an archaeological site were carried out. In the 2010s, the theme of cultural rights and enjoyment of cultural heritage in life was raised as an important issue. Cultural heritage education had to accept the 'new meaning of cultural heritage', 'cultural rights', and 'learnercentered education'. In this context, the local cultural heritage education project started. The region is a space where various identities are reconstructed. However, local cultural heritage education itself cannot realize cultural heritage enjoyment in life. Therefore, it is necessary to seek cultural heritage in life through the various efforts of local cultural heritage education.

  • Increase of immigrants in Korean society means that ethnic and cultural diversity witnessed in Western immigration countries is also appearing in overall Korean society. The purpose of this study is to suggest policy directions which fit multicultural society in the future by comparing and analyzing the difference in the recognition of multiculturalism between Koreans and immigrants. As the result of empirical analysis, it turned out that there is difference in recognition between Koreans and immigrants, for which different policy directions are required. First, it was contact experience that decided Koreans' multicultural attitudes. High level of influence of contact experience means that although Koreans take multicultural society as granted, they actually have low level of contact experience with immigrants, which requires policy tools to convert actual strengthened contact experience into positive directions. Second, in the case of immigrants, the less they recognize discrimination and the more bias is fortified, the more they accept multiculturalism as a threat. This exhibits their dual sense of identity in which they recognize themselves as foreigners toward Koreans but they distinguish themselves from other foreigners. Thus, assimilation to Korean society is not deemed to be the only alternative and Korean society needs to practice genuine multiculturalism to strengthen immigrants' ethnic identity. Study also conducted in-depth discussions on the implications of above results.

  • Purpose: This study was undertaken to examine the perception of Korean consumers regarding soybean meat. Using the Dietary Identify Questionnaire (DIQ), the data obtained were analyzed to identify various factors related to a plant-based diet. Methods: A consumer survey was conducted from June 1st to 30th, 2021, targeting 260 Korean consumers over the age of 20 years. Subjects were asked to answer six questions related to the perception of soybean meat. Of the 52 items present in the DIQ, 33 items were verified and reconstructed. All data were analyzed using the SPSS statistics (ver.25). Results: The subjects were divided into two groups, 'passive consuming group' and 'active consuming group', based on their perception of soybean meat. Demographic analysis according to the perception of soybean meat showed significant differences in age, marital status, academic background, and family members. The DIQ was categorized into 7 types: prosocial motivation, out-group regard, centrality, public regard, personal motivation, strictness, and private regard. Comparing by perception about soybean meat, significant differences were obtained between both groups for 'prosocial motivation (p < 0.01)', 'centrality (p < 0.01)', 'private norm (p < 0.05)', and 'personal motivation (p < 0.001)'. The 'passive consuming group' showed relatively low scores in all 4 factors. Conclusion: In the future, the results of this study can be applied to define the meaning of vegan in Korea. We believe our results will provide basic marketing data for the plant-based meat market. This will help expand the soybean meat market for a sustainable life for consumers, which is based on various needs such as health and the environment.

  • Construction engineers are the core resource for the sustainable development of construction industry and positive images toward construction engineers give much impacts on recruit and retainment of the young and talented. Although previous studies reported on negative aspects of the image of construction industry, the image of construction engineers has not been properly investigated to date. The objective of the study is to compare images of construction engineers as perceived by general public and construction engineers themselves in order to identify key characteristics and implications. The result shows that construction engineers themselves, compared with general public, have more negative tendencies on images of construction engineers. The study suggests that it is critical to enhance the understanding of roles of construction engineers and their morality in order to improve general public's perception on construction engineers images. On the other hand, fundamental measures to be taken to restore the environments of construction industry for construction engineers to improve their self-perception on images of construction engineers.
