  • Recognizing the necessity of content-centered teacher professional development programs in a rapidly changing educational environments, this study analyzed the contents of teacher professional development programs in terms of teachers' participation by program contents and teachers' perception of the necessity and the effectiveness of such program contents. Employing Teaching and Learning International Survey(TALIS), this study analyzed the perception of 4,000 Korean secondary school teachers. The results showed that the programs with the highest teacher participation were mainly subject-centered while the teacher participation rates on the newly required contents such as ICT, intercultural counseling, school management and administration, and new job skills were low. Besides, when teachers were asked to identify the content areas where teacher professional developments are needed, the level of teachers' perception of the programs with low participation rates was accordingly low. Lastly, this study implies that since the years of teaching experience serve as a determinant on the types of the contents that teacher professional developments are needed and on the teachers' perception of the effectiveness of such contents, the course of teacher development should be taken into consideration when the contents of teacher professional development programs are developed.

For the study, the survey results of 124 elementary school teachers in G-city were used. According to the study, the average score of elementary school teachers recognizing national-level curriculum was 3.48 points and the self-assessment of national-level curriculum perception was 3.75, indicating that the self-assessment score was higher than that of national-level curriculum perception. Also, as a result of comparing the perception differences according to the characteristics of elementary school teachers, teachers working in schools under 20 classes had higher national-level curriculum recognition than teachers working in schools over 31 classes. The group with research school experience was higher than the group without research school experience, and the group with both research and innovation school experience was significantly higher than the group without research or innovation school experience. As a result of conducting multiple regression analysis to find out the variables influencing the national-level curriculum, school size variables showed an explanatory power of 13.1%. These results suggest that awareness of the national-level curriculum can be improved when more opportunities for teachers to access curriculum development are provided.

By surveying the actual responses of both in-service and pre-service teachers, this study aimed to find out critical opinions to assist future math teachers. The survey was conducted among 124 in-service teachers and 112 pre-service teachers, asking what they needed for the understanding of the storytelling theory and for the preparation of actual lessons. After analyzing data, we concluded that in-service teachers have more positive opinion about the efficiency of teaching and learning mathematics based on storytelling, but more negative opinion about the appropriateness of storytelling as a means for teaching and learning mathematics than the pre-service teachers in elementary school. The in-service elementary teachers also want to have well-organized teaching resources for storytelling and development. Through a lot of training, more and more creative ways of applying the storytelling method can be learned and concrete presentations of real lessons need to be shared. Approximately 87% of pre-service teachers believe the storytelling method is a necessity in teaching math.

(6)'Career path counselling expert understanding student's characteristics and environments'. Through the factor analysis, six RCHET factors are more important to teachers than students. According to importance perception for RCHET, home economics teachers' qualification for minor second subject and participation of training program showed similar differences statistically in all RCHET factors. Thus, effort for expertise improvement of teacher had important influence on expertise improvement of teacher. As a result of examining the differences from importance evaluation for RCHET, similar differences from frequence of home project, preference of home economics teacher, manual training and home economics score, interest of home economics showed statistically.

  • This study investigated preservice science teachers' understandings of philosophical foundations(i.e., ontological and epistemological beliefs) underlying constructivist notions of learning. The teacher education program these subjects participated in explicitly addressed philosophical notions consistent with different views of constructivism. For these preservice science teachers, the program provided them with the opportunity to reflect upon the implications that their ontological and epistemological commitments had for their role as a science teacher. Data from four in-depth interviews were used to explore changes in each preservice science teacher's ontological beliefs, epistemological commitments, and pedagogical preferences. Results indicated that ontological beliefs and epistemological commitments were not necessarily consistent with conceptions of science teaching and learning for these preservice teachers. While some students internalized idealist and relativist perspectives, they did not integrate these relativist epistemological views into their preferred instructional practices. Also, regarding the fallible and tentative nature of knowledge, data in this study indicated that participants' epistemological beliefs about scientific Knowledge did influence how they were thinking about their roles as science teachers. Implications for teacher education programs and research on preservice science teacher's philosophical beliefs are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the questionnaire on pre-service elementary teachers' recognition of self-understanding and change capacity for science education and to investigate their recognitions with it. At the beginning of the study, we made a tool to investigate the self-understanding and change capacity of pre-service elementary teachers through literature review and discussions. The former half of the questionnaire was related to self-understanding with factors such as 'self-concept clarity,' 'career identity' and 'self-efficacy:' 'self-understanding as a pre-service elementary teacher' (12 items) and 'self-understanding as a pre-service elementary science teacher' (12 items). Its latter half was about the change capacity with factors such as 'change sensitivity,' 'goal consciousness,' 'collaboration,' 'reflection,' and 'mastery.' It consisted of three parts: 'general change capacity,' 'change capacity as a pre-service elementary teacher' and 'change capacity as a pre-service elementary science teacher' with 17 items, respectively. With this tool, we surveyed 153 pre-service elementary teachers. The results are as follows: First, pre-service elementary teachers have a positive recognition about self-understanding and change capacity, but the recognition of self-understanding and change capacity as pre-service elementary science teachers were relatively less positive. Second, factors of self-understanding and change capacity as pre-service elementary science teachers have a significant correlation with each other. Especially, there was a high correlation between 'self-efficacy' of self-understanding and 'goal consciousness' and 'mastery' of change capacity. Based on these results, some implications for self-understanding and change capacity related to science education were discussed.

  • The aim of this study is to raise a cognition and necessity of effective geoheritage education for pre-service teachers. We conducted a survey research of 190 elementary and secondary pre-service teachers in Chung-buk province, 2013. The survey showed that pre-service teachers did not recognize and explain geoheritatges well due to lack of education even though they have heard about 'geoheritages' through broadcast media. Although most pre-service teachers were not trained for geoheritage courses, some of them were educated from their elementary and middle school teachers. However, even the trained pre-service teachers have insufficient cognition for geoheritages, either. Some of pre-service teachers recognized the significance of geoheritages and responded to a necessity of geoheritage education. The pre-service teachers recognized that education for geoheritages is not included in present elementary and secondary curriculum, even though education of geoheritages by teachers at school would be the most effective approach. Furthermore, the pre-service teachers answered that elementary school curriculum should raise much curiosity and provide effective learning for geoheritage education even though negative views are present such that students may have to spend considerable time for geoheritage education. Finally, the pre-service teachers expect to experience with field activities for geoheritage education as a present curriculum, and responded that they would prefer video aids for education provided from professional geoheritage organization. As a result of this investigation we provide strategy for introducing to Pre-service teachers about value and preciousness of geoheritage.

  • This study was conducted to understand the relationship between teacher's game recognition types and the acceptance of student game use in school. We surveyed 250 elementary/middle/high school teachers, school counselors and professional counselors. Four game recognition types have differences in gender, age, game experience, attitude toward game, response to game, and the evaluation of academic influence. When we compared the acceptance of student game use according to teacher's game recognition types, the differences in 'need for supervision', 'willingness to use', 'concern and monitoring' and 'acceptance as alternative activities' were identified. However, all types showed low scores of 'acceptance efficacy'. Finally, we discussed what kind of support would be effective to increase the acceptance of game use in school.
