  • A model experiment on the pair midwater trawl net which is prevailing in Denmark is carried out to get the basic data available for Korean pair bottom trawlers. The model net was made in 1/30 scale considering the Tauti's Similarity law of fishing gear and the dimension of experimental tank. The vertical opening, horizontal opening, towing tension and net working depth of the model net were determined in the tank within the towing velocity 0.46~1.15m/sec, front weight 15.5~62.0g and distance between paired boats 5~8m(which correpond to 2~5k't in towing velocity, 70~280kg in weight and 150~240m in distance respectively in the prototype net). The results got from the model experiment can be converted into the full scale net as follows; 1. Vertical opening showed the largest value of 32m at the condition of 2k't in towing velocity, 280kg in front weight and 150m in the distance between paired boats, and the smallest value of 6m at the condition of 5k't in towing velocity, 70kg in front weight and 240m in the distance between paired boats. 2. Horizontal opening showed the largest value of 45m at the condition of 5k't in towing velocity, 70kg in front weight and 240m in the distance between paired boats, and the smallest value of 33m at the condition of 2k't in towing velocity, 280kg in front weight and 150m in the distance between paired boats. 3. Towing tension showed the largest value of 10, 000kg at the condition of 5k't in towing velocity, 280kg in front weight and 240m in the distance between paired boats, and the smallest value of 1, 600kg at the condition of 2k't in towing velocity, 70kg in front weight and 150m in the distance between paired boats. 4. Net working depth showed the largest value of 38m at the condition of 2k't in towing velocity, 280kg in front weight and 150m in the distance between paired boats, and the smallest value of 6m at the condition of 5k't in towing velocity, 70kg in front weight and 240m in the distance between paired boats. 5. Net opening area showed the largest value of 1, 100m super(2) at the condition of 2k't in towing velocity, 280kg in front weight and 180m in the distance between paired boats, and the smallest value of 250m super(2) at the condition of 5k't in towing velocity, 70kg in front weight and 240m in the distance between paired boats.

  • ATP-sensitive $K^+$ channels ($K_{ATP}$) were not identified in gastric smooth muscle cells. However, in tension recording of intact gastric circular muscle, lemakalim of $K_{ATP}$ channels opener in other tissues suppressed mechanical contractions and this effect was blocked by glibenclamide, a specific inhibitor of $K_{ATP}$ channels. The aims of this study were to investigate whether $K_{ATP}$ channels exist in gastric smooth muscle of guinea-pig and to know its physiological role. Whole cell $K^+$ currents activated by lemakalim were recorded from freshly isolated cells with a 0.1 mM ATP, 140 mM KCl pipette solutions. Lemakalim (10 ${\mu}M$) increased inward currents of $-224{\pm}34$ pA (n=13) at -80 mV of holding potential in bath solution contained 90 mM $K^+$. Bath-applied glibenclamide (10 ${\mu}M$) inhibited the lemakalim-activated inward currents by $91{\pm}6%$ (n=5). These lemakalim-activated inward currents were reduced by increased intracellular ATP from 0.1 to 3 mM ($-41{\pm}12$ pA) (n=5). The reversal potential of the glibenclamide- sensitive inward currents was $-5.2{\pm}2.4$ mV (n=3) in external 90 mM $K^+$ and shifted to $-14.8{\pm}3.6$ mV (n=3) in external 60 mM $K^+$, which close to equilibrium potential of $K^+$ ($E_K$). External barium and cesium inhibited the lemakalim-activated inward currents dose-dependently. The half-inhibitory dose ($IC_{50}$) of barium and cesium were 2.3 ${\mu}M$ (n=5) and 0.38 mM (n=4), respectively. 10 mM tetraethylammonium (TEA) also inhibited the lemakalim-activated inward currents by $66{\pm}15%$ (n=5). Both substance P (SP) (5 ${\mu}M$) and acetylcholine (ACh) (5 ${\mu}M$) inhibited lemakalim-activated inward currents. These results suggest that $K_{ATP}$ channels exist in the gastric smooth muscle and its modulation by neurotransmitters may play an important role in regulating gastric motility.

  • Let T be a bounded linear operator acting on a complex Hilbert space ${\mathfrak{H}}$. In this paper we introduce the class, denoted ${\mathcal{Q}}(A(k),m)$, of operators satisfying $T^{m{\ast}}(T^{\ast}{\mid}T{\mid}^{2k}T)^{1/(k+1)}T^m{\geq}T^{{\ast}m}{\mid}T{\mid}^2T^m$, where m is a positive integer and k is a positive real number and we prove basic structural properties of these operators. Using these results, we prove that if P is the Riesz idempotent for isolated point ${\lambda}$ of the spectrum of $T{\in}{\mathcal{Q}}(A(k),m)$, then P is self-adjoint, and we give a necessary and sufficient condition for $T{\otimes}S$ to be in ${\mathcal{Q}}(A(k),m)$ when T and S are both non-zero operators. Moreover, we characterize the quasinilpotent part $H_0(T-{\lambda})$ of class A(k) operator.

  • In this paper, we will investigate the concept of the torsion-graph of an R-module M, in which the set $T(M)^*$ makes up the vertices of the corresponding torsion graph, ${\Gamma}(M)$, with any two distinct vertices forming an edge if $[x:M][y:M]M=0$. We prove that, if ${\Gamma}(M)$ contains a cycle, then $gr({\Gamma}(M)){\leq}4$ and ${\Gamma}(M)$ has a connected induced subgraph ${\overline{\Gamma}}(M)$ with vertex set $\{m{\in}T(M)^*{\mid}Ann(m)M{\neq}0\}$ and diam$({\overline{\Gamma}}(M)){\leq}3$. Moreover, if M is a multiplication R-module, then ${\overline{\Gamma}}(M)$ is a maximal connected subgraph of ${\Gamma}(M)$. Also ${\overline{\Gamma}}(M)$ and ${\overline{\Gamma}}(S^{-1}M)$ are isomorphic graphs, where $S=R{\backslash}Z(M)$. Furthermore, we show that, if ${\overline{\Gamma}}(M)$ is uniquely complemented, then $S^{-1}M$ is a von Neumann regular module or ${\overline{\Gamma}}(M)$ is a star graph.

  • Overusing chemical fertilizers involves potassium accumulation in the soil, which can become a toxicity problem in agriculture. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of potassium (K) treatment on growth, physiological characteristics, and morphological changes using Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa L. ssp. campestris). With high (600 mM) K treatment, the plant growth traits of leaf length, leaf area, and fresh and dry weight of shoots and roots decreased, whereas chlorophyll content increased. As the concentration of K increasing, total N, P, and K increased in leaves, but concentrations of Ca, Mg, and Na decreased. However, Mn, Fe and Zn contents were highest in 100 mM K treatment. Chlorophyll a, b, and carotenoids increased with increasing K concentration. Maximum photochemical efficiency ($F_v/F_m$) was not significant in the all treatments, whereas $CO_2$ assimilation decreased with increasing K level due to stomatal degradation. Total free amino acids increased with the 10 and 100 mM K but decreased at 600 mM K treatments. Therefore, the growth and physiological characteristics of Chinese cabbage ascertained that tolerance up to 100 mM K when grown with nutrient solution in pot culture.

  • In this paper, the kinetics of a cloned special glucosidase, named ginsenosidase type III hydrolyzing 3-O-glucoside of multi-protopanaxadiol (PPD)-type ginsenosides, were investigated. The gene (bgpA) encoding this enzyme was cloned from a Terrabacter ginsenosidimutans strain and then expressed in E. coli cells. Ginsenosidase type III was able to hydrolyze 3-O-glucoside of multi-PPD-type ginsenosides. For instance, it was able to hydrolyze the 3-O-${\beta}$-D-(1${\rightarrow}$2)-glucopyranosyl of Rb1 to gypenoside XVII, and then to further hydrolyze the 3-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranosyl of gypenoside XVII to gypenoside LXXV. Similarly, the enzyme could hydrolyze the glucopyranosyls linked to the 3-O-position of Rb2, Rc, Rd, Rb3, and Rg3. With a larger enzyme reaction $K_m$ value, there was a slower enzyme reaction speed; and the larger the enzyme reaction $V_{max}$ value, the faster the enzyme reaction speed was. The $K_m$ values from small to large were 3.85 mM for Rc, 4.08 mM for Rb1, 8.85 mM for Rb3, 9.09 mM for Rb2, 9.70 mM for Rg3(S), 11.4 mM for Rd and 12.9 mM for F2; and $V_{max}$ value from large to small was 23.2 mM/h for Rc, 16.6 mM/h for Rb1, 14.6 mM/h for Rb3, 14.3 mM/h for Rb2, 1.81mM/h for Rg3(S), 1.40 mM/h for Rd, and 0.41 mM/h for F2. According to the $V_{max}$ and $K_m$ values of the ginsenosidase type III, the hydrolysis speed of these substrates by the enzyme was Rc>Rb1>Rb3>Rb2>Rg3(S)>Rd>F2 in order.

  • This study analyzed the energy consumption differences between rental and owner owned (purchased) apartments in Busan, South Korea during the cooling and heating seasons. Analysis revealed that the average electricity consumed for cooling was 2.5 kWh/m2·yr for rental apartments and 2.3 kWh/m2·yr for purchased apartments, a difference of 0.2 kWh/m2·yr. The average electrical heating energy consumption was 3.3 kWh/m2·yr for rental apartments and 2.2 kWh/m2·yr for purchased apartments, a difference of 1.1 kWh/m2·yr. It was estimated that the use of electric blankets and heaters was higher in rental apartments than purchased apartments resulting in higher electrical heating energy consumption. The average gas heating energy consumption was 7.0 kWh/m2·month for rental apartments and 6.8 kWh/m2·month for purchased apartments. When electricity and gas usage was combined for heating, the average total heating energy consumption was 10.3 kWh/m2·month for rental apartments and 9.0 kWh/m2·month for purchased apartments. This indicates that rental apartments consume 1.3 kWh/m2·month more energy than purchased apartments during heating season. Overall, rental apartments consume more energy than purchased apartments during both the cooling and heating seasons.

  • To investigate the possible involvement of outward potassium ($K^+$) currents in nitric oxide-induced relaxation in intestinal smooth muscle, we used whole-cell patch clamp technique in freshly dispersed guinea-pig ileum longitudinal smooth muscle cells. When cells were held at -60 mV and depolarized from -40 mV to -50 mV in 10 mV increments, sustained outward $K^+$ currents were evoked. The outward $K^+$ currents were markedly increased by the addition of 10 ${\mu}M$ sodium nitroprusside (SNP). 10 ${\mu}M$ S-nitroso-N-acetylpenicillamine (SNAP) and 1 mM 8-Bromo-cyclic GMP (8-Br-cGMP) also showed a similar effect to that of SNP. 1 mM tetraethylammonium (TEA) significantly reduced depolarization-activated outward $K^+$ currents. SNP-enhanced outward $K^+$ currents were blocked by the application of TEA. High EGTA containing pipette solution (10 mM) reduced the control currents and also inhibited the SNP-enhanced outward $K^+$ currents. 5 mM 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) significantly reduced the control currents but showed no effect on SNP-enhanced outward $K^+$ currents. 0.3 ${\mu}M$ apamin and 10 ${\mu}M$ glibenclamide showed no effect on SNP-enhanced outward $K^+$ currents. 10 ${\mu}M$ 1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo [4,3-a]quinoxaline-1-one (ODQ), a specific inhibitor of soluble guanylate cyclase, significantly blocked SNP-enhanced $K^+$ currents. We conclude that NO donors activate the $Ca^{2+}-activated$ $K^+$ channels in guinea-pig ileal smooth muscle via activation of guanylate cyclase.

  • We study the tensor product algebra Pk(x1) ⊗ Pk(x2) ⊗ ⋯ ⊗ Pk(xm), where Pk(x) is the partition algebra defined by Jones and Martin. We discuss the centralizer of this algebra and corresponding Schur-Weyl dualities and also index the inequivalent irreducible representations of the algebra Pk(x1) ⊗ Pk(x2) ⊗ ⋯ ⊗ Pk(xm) and compute their dimensions in the semisimple case. In addition, we describe the Bratteli diagrams and branching rules. Along with that, we have also constructed the RS correspondence for the tensor product of m-partition algebras which gives the bijection between the set of tensor product of m-partition diagram of Pk(n1) ⊗ Pk(n2) ⊗ ⋯ ⊗ Pk(nm) and the pairs of m-vacillating tableaux of shape [λ] ∈ Γkm, Γkm = {[λ] = (λ1, λ2, …, λm)|λi ∈ Γk, i ∈ {1, 2, …, m}} where Γk = {λi ⊢ t|0 ≤ t ≤ k}. Also, we provide proof of the identity $(n_1n_2{\cdots}n_m)^k={\sum}_{[{\lambda}]{\in}{\Lambda}^k_{{n_1},{n_2},{\ldots},{n_m}}}$ f[λ]mk[λ] where mk[λ] is the multiplicity of the irreducible representation of $S{_{n_1}}{\times}S{_{n_2}}{\times}....{\times}S{_{n_m}}$ module indexed by ${[{\lambda}]{\in}{\Lambda}^k_{{n_1},{n_2},{\ldots},{n_m}}}$, where f[λ] is the degree of the corresponding representation indexed by ${[{\lambda}]{\in}{\Lambda}^k_{{n_1},{n_2},{\ldots},{n_m}}}$ and ${[{\lambda}]{\in}{\Lambda}^k_{{n_1},{n_2},{\ldots},{n_m}}}=\{[{\lambda}]=({\lambda}_1,{\lambda}_2,{\ldots},{\lambda}_m){\mid}{\lambda}_i{\in}{\Lambda}^k_{n_i},i{\in}\{1,2,{\ldots},m\}\}$ where ${\Lambda}^k_{n_i}=\{{\mu}=({\mu}_1,{\mu}_2,{\ldots},{\mu}_t){\vdash}n_i{\mid}n_i-{\mu}_1{\leq}k\}$.

  • Karyotypes are described for Juniperus rigida Sieb. et zucc, in two provenances of Gyeong-nam and Choong-puk. Chromosome numbers of two provenances, are 2n=22. The most common feature of mitotic chromosomes was shown at the chromosome 7, which has secondary constriction on the short arm. And the most differential chromosome was shown at chromosome 9 from Gyeong-nam and chromosome 5 from Choong-puk provenance which bore secondary constriction. The karyotype formulae are as follows; Gyeong-nam, Jinyang provenance race is $$K(2n)=22=2A^m+2B^m+2C^m+2D^{sm}+2E^{st}+2F^m+2^{sc}G^m+2H^m+2^{sc}I^t+2J^{st}+2K^m$$ Choong-puk, Jechun provenance race is $$K(2n)=22=2A^m+2B^m+2C^m+2D^{st}+2^{sc}E^{sm}+2F^m+2^{sc}G^m+2H^m+2I^m+2J^{st}+2K^{sm}$$.
