IMF situation in Korean society in 1997 gave huge shock to all areas, such as politics, economy, and society which were covered by bubble economy. It has passed 4 years since IMF but it is continued to increase of consumer price index and depression of the society. Receiving an order in interior design become more and more tense competition domestically as well as internationally, due to the open of WTO. In order to achieve economic design of low cost-high design which pursues the power of competition in cost and quality, this study investigated specific methods for economic design and suggested the directions for economic design in interior design field. To suggest the directions of future interior design for economic design with the analysis of domestic and international cases for economic design. the following results are showed: According to the analysis of the cases, economic design is accomplished with the use of the materials. Interior designers should consider how they can use materials for economic design. Especially, use of cheap materials gives the reduction of the cost and the effects of differentiation of the spaces more. Therefore, experimentalism and knowledge of materials are needed and they should be more weighted as the method for achieving economic design,

Greeting the era that the interest in qualitative aspects of life environment is getting important, commercial space, which is sensitive to the reflection of consumers' desire, is making efforts to secure the interior image identity of its own space. Especially, because the bar, which is the object of this study, is competing with undistinguished alcoholic beverages, the distinction of the interior image construction becomes more important. Here this study is purposed to understand the features of structural elements for the construction of the image identity of interior space. Especially, the purpose is to present the basic materials of the space design for individuality and distinction by considering relationship between the whole image and structural elements that form the image of space, and the preference, centering on the installation, which is being used very much for the image identity construction in eating and drinking space these days.

Nowadays, the color of the interior effects people's thought, behavior and even the psychological state and this led to the presence of emotional design. The color is perceived as the main image of the apartment, and if applied from the early state of designing it can create a more rational and emotional interior. The purpose of this study is to understand the emotional factors by color taste characteristic and the application to living space. The living space of apartments will express people's emotion more aggressively and variously in the coming years.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the remodeling of apartments according to the area type and size in order to provide some information for the future plans for more consumer-friendly dwelling units. To achieve this goal, quantitative data analyses was employed. The sample was a total of 100 apartments analysed on apartments remodeling. The data were analyzed by SPSS WIN program package in terms of frequency, percentage, and x 2-test on the actual remodeling behaviors according to the area type and size of apartments. For the future research case studies recommended small, medium, and large sizes of apartments respectively through interviews, actual surveys, and questionnaires on remodeling behavior, interior design, and interior atmosphere according to the area type and size of apartments.

A high-rise Mixed-use building is a multi-purpose which has commercial, business and residential uses. In Korea, after the middle of 1990's, the rate of residential parts was Increased to 90%. Now, the residential parts finally bacame mainly. And residental spaces are more important than before. Residential spaces are according to variety trends such in their areas. Some companies have several interior design trend in their building. They sometimes use the interior trend when to sell their goods(apartments) in their macketing. Modern design is presented in almost dwelling-units-types. But Classic type is presented in large-units-types. Minimal design is presented in only some middle-units-type as well as in the cases of the companies having definite interior trend. Interior design trend is one another factor in dwelling spaces design.

The purpose of this study was first, to confirm of the key hypothetical concepts through the research of previous literature analysis results, and second, to Identify responses of various prospective consumers on key hypothetical concepts and the validity of the plan for improvement before construction was employed through the small group workshop. The participants in workshop were working housewives with 1 or 2 children, residing in an apartment of a net area of 25.7py. The materials used in the process were questionnaire, existing apartment floor plan, developing floor plan for universal apartment, small scale model, endoscopy images, computer simulation images, and recording equipment like audio recorder, video tape recorder, and camera.

The purpose of this study was to identify the Korean traditional housing design characteristics in apartment model houses. 37 floor plans of apartment model houses in Busan were collected and analyzed. Also, 31 design element check-lists were checked through the field study in apartment model houses. The results were as follows: 1) Korean traditional housing design characteristics in aspects of space organization, such as harmony with nature, hierarchy, focal space, flexibility, were founded in apartment houses. 2) Korean traditional housing design characteristics in aspects of scale, material, color, and motif were mostly founded in the master bedroom and the living room in apartment house. 3) Also, the larger the size of apartment houses were, the more Korean traditional housing design characteristics were founded.

The purpose of exhibition at museum is to provide the space of aesthetic interpretation of arts for visitors as well as performing the role of communications characterized by various elements. Such elements as visual, spacial and physical factors influence the visitors movement directly, on aesthetic interpretation of arts and these elements would be important for design of space, on considering of promoting the relationship between the art exhibition and visitors. Visitor's movement would be influenced by the property of the art materials, the space shape and the situations of environments, and these elements are important to plan the design of exhibition on museum. The aim of this study is to exam the early stage's points of factors and to standard in basic level for visitors behaviors, through surveying the visitors movement in the museum and analysing the space, in order to find out the factors influencing the aesthetic interpretation of arts and the characteristics of physical properties of art materials exhibited.

Today, local museums as well as international museums are varied with scale, foundation purpose and function. Children's museum is particularly designed for special viewers. Therefore, the expression design factors such as plane, cubic side, illuminator, line of flow, color, material and the characteristics of viewers should be considered in planning. A couple of sample museums are selected for this study in order to study the characteristics of viewers. I hope the result of this study will be the basic information for the display design of children's museum.

The purpose of this research is find basic data for the design of space for both living and working. This research, is based on research, well known throughout the world, that are related to the design of space for both working and living. In addition the fundamental data, which I used, are also basically focused on putting practical use to the space. With that goal in mind, the research has been proved through the following four means. Firstly, common theories about space for working and living were studios. Secondly, patterns and elements that makeup space for those kinds of places were investigated. Thirdly, the nine example places, that have been chosen were analyzed in order to outline, the space types, the elements that makeup the space and problems posed. Finally, the solution found that will resolve the problems exposed, has been presented.

This study analyses the office-tel market change pattern and factors by time period and grasps the causal relationship and attempts to set a new standard to evaluate the social/economical role and value of the office-tel.

This thesis is aimed to suggest the efficiency at the education space for job-rehabilitation through grasping the characteristics of behavior and attitude of the handicapped and analyzing their loaming behavior as an employment promotion for the disabled. For that purpose, the demand of the handicapped and some overlooked space problems we searched by survey, interview, observation and investigation to offer basic data for interior design planning. It resulted firstly that the inconvenience of narrow space was pointed out in many responses implying users suffer from the stress and inconvenience caused by an unconsidered space planning to their behavior. And secondly further difficulties are added when medical appliances for the disabled are not appropriate to common furniture. Finally, without identification of the behavior and attitude of the handicapped the minimum or optimum space needed for them could not be suggested and it may cause to decrease the efficiency in their learning.

The main concept of this thesis is to research about how to express the interface element of the virtual museum on tile cyber space and how to evaluate its organization. In addition, the basis of this thesis is to help people build their efficient spaces on the current virtual museum. My understanding about the interface element and its structural evaluation is grounded on Usability evaluation and Syntax thesis. For the survey, I utilize two different methods. One is regular questionnaire; the other is heuristic evaluation which is derived from empirical study and practical experience. The survey is mainly composed of contents, design, usability and overall impression. The main concept of this research is to establish the initial foundation of the virtual museum on cyber space by suggesting an objective evolutional norm including esthetic orientation.

This study aims for the research of the local circulation in a kitchen to minimize the kitchen work load and to produce a more efficient kitchen system. This study analized the real behavior and circulation in the kitchen area and this focused on the kitchen of the working women in a dual-income family. Through the analisis, this study raised an idea that the work in the kitchen area is not in sequence, but random while the tradition idea of the kitchen system is arranged by cooking programe. Therefore, this became a reason to increase the kitchen work load ratter than the layout of the kitchen system, the cooking style and menu affected on the more kitchen load. To reduce the kitchen work load, the designeer should shorten the circulation in the kitchen area. And this is possible through the decrease distance between the sink and a kiting zone and through the wide kitchen table which is between the sink and a kiting zone.

CAD System, which has been actively applied since late 80's, has become one of the most important tools in architectural design and has taken the central position in practical design processes. However, it is widely known that AutoCAD, the market-leading general-use CAD System, resulted in hindering the standardization of CAD System. This has been causing problems in communication among designers and inefficiency in their uses. The standardization in CAD System becomes an urgent issue. The study attempts to build up fundamental principles in standardization of CAD System, and to suggest a combinational model of international and domestic standards.

The main purpose of this study was to provide basic data for better design of subway station based on universal design principle. Conclusions based on the findings ate as follows: Checklists were developed to evaluate the subway stations facilities based on universal design principles Modified and/or complementary lists can be employed to develop the evaluation tools and can construct a database for defining the standard items in order to improve the facilites.

This study intends to examine the relationship among customer behavior, customer movement, and VMD by grasping customers shopping behavior characteristics that come from the relatively comprehensive factors in the female sections of the department stores through the environmental image that is composed of spatial and emotional elements. This study also serves the purpose that by tracking shopping time, shopping speed, and the ratio of shopping depth that directly reflects customer behavior characteristics, various causes, either general or specific, which can affect the decision on purchase are to be examined. Based on this research results, we bring up the basic data and foundation for floor MD plan, establishment of movement plan, and VMD plan at a store.

There has been many improvements on our nation's public restroom, however, it was focused on interior decoration and installing convenience supplies. The simplicity of materials is another aspect. Besides, the lack of harmony with the surrounding scenery is also a problem. The new concept of public restroom that this study suggests is; a creation of a lively space to stimulate the senses of human and a cultural space that people can rest, and eventually improving the quality of life, being the landmark of streets and parks by avoiding the negative image.

The object of this study is to find out our present exterior color palette of the apartment buildings by Han River, which represents the visual image of Seoul, to reveal how well it is harmonized with its surroundings along with the last 10 years researches, and to compare its correspondence with the city plan of Seoul. Furthermore, it is the ultimate purpose to prepare source materials for desirable color plan of the city.

In the middle of 1940s, Hassan Fathy, a great Islamic contemporary architect, built cheap multifamily houses, schools, mosques and public market in the village of Gourna, near Luxor, Egypt for the poor Egyptian. At that time the western style houses made of concrete materials were so expensive for the Egyptian people in the rural area, that Hassan Fathy, a young architect, challenged to build the houses for them. He considered seriously the expenses that the lower-class Egyptians in the rural area could pay for building houses. He built up gorges arch-style building and done-style building by using traditional materials, which consisted of reeds, roues and mud brick for adobe. He made the design of houses cool in summer and warm in winter. The houses in the Gourna village were, afterwards, highly evaluated, in the sense that they represented the Islamic uniqueness of architecture and its beauty. As a result, the Gourna village made him receive many of awards including the Aga Khan Award. This study tries to focus on the reviewing of modern Islamic architecture by analyzing Hassan Fathy's architectural art, on the investigation of traditional materials used for building the Gourna village, and finally on the contribution for the research of Islamic architecture

Facing the aging society in Korea, the necessity of the facility for dementia patients is gradually increasing. This study is to understand the dementia and also to provide tile basic planning guideline in designing of the interior architecture of dementia ward. In designing dementia wards, following elements such as the behavior characteristic of dementia patients, living environment, individuality and community should be considered. The sauntering road of patients, patients' privacy, rest room, bathroom in ward designing for dementia patients should be understood. Material, color, lighting and furniture and so on as an intoner composition are also major elements.
