In modem society, the development of science and industrialization has brought economic growth, and better living environment, improved food life, advanced medicine, and increased span of life have leaded us into the aging society. In the current situation to move toward the aging society, it's needed to prepare housing planning for retirement community in consideration of the physical and psychological and behavioral features of the elderly to raise their quality of life. The purpose of this study was to map out proper housing planning for retirement community in consideration of the physical, psychological and behavioral characteristics of senior citizens, instead of just focusing on comfortable and convenient one.

The purpose of this study is to provide a practical planning guide for the actual conditions and the preference by user characteristics in one-room housing. The data collected through questionnaire surveys from the residents of one-room housing in kangnam & sinchon. 259 samples we collected and are analyzed by using SPSS-PC. The results are follows : 1) Students: Students prefer monthly rent, down town, of officetel type, 8-l0py room size, and semi-furnished 2)Business men: They prefer multi function housing mixed office and residence, down town, officetel type, 11-l5py, and fully furnished housing. 3)Newly marriged couples: Ordinary habitation site, apt type, 16-l8py ,and 5: 5 division of space(bedroom:others) 4) Old age: normal habitation site, residence-commerce complex building type, middle corridor type, and 11-l5py. 5)Couple+child: lease of deposit basis, apt complex site, and 16-l8py.

This study is focused on the expressional characteristics of transparency in the comtemporary interior architecture. The purpose of this study is that defines the concept of transparency and analyzes the characteristics and effects of transparency that is expressed variously in comtemporary interior architecture. Even though housing industry has greatly developed through last 4 decades, its main progress only appeared in quantity not quality. To promote housing industry in more sound way and to enhance peoples' life quality through the better housing environment housing plan should be based on living items such as furniture, appliances and etc. Not enough research has been done to find out living items for better furniture & house plan development. This study attempted to find out furniture pattern which people own in their bedrooms and livingrooms. An indept questionnaire survey of 600 households were carried during the year 2000. A variety of furniture pattern were found which indicated not uniform living items within a very similar uniform multifamily apartment complex, indicating of their living. The result of this study will be helpful to develop new concept furniture and also to suggest new space dimension for Apartment plan.

Popular in the 1990s, Western Minimalism declined in popularity in the end of the century while the Oriental Mysticism and the Oriental Minimalism called “Zen Style” appeared. Fusion and Oriental Minimalism, both of which pursue traditional beauty and the essence of functionality and beauty, are combined with Japanese elements. As Oriental Minimalism is oriented towards Japan and China, we should consider the Japanese modernization process. Japan internationalized their own traditional elements after modernization. On the other hand, we only focus on tradition in a view of modernity, Japan developed their own culture whereas we followed the Western influences and trends after our culture and social structure were destroyed because of the civil war. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to find out the possibility of culture variety in interior design from the Japanese samples which modernized their culture in various sights. In other words, I researched and analyzed the expressive trends in Japanese Contemporary interior design, architecture and similarity and difference between Korea and Japan.

This study hypothesizes that the imageability of a particular environments is decided by the unity of each visual sequences. We selected Ch'angdok Palace as our subject due to its greater applicability for image construction among various Korean architectures and their street furnitures. we apply the analytical methods of formal aesthetics and symbolic aesthetics to Ch'angdok Palace's space compositional characteristics, we can find distinctive features. The conclusions are that Ch'angdok Palace contains high probability of imageability through the contrast and harmony of two themes, reality and the ideal, and the rational and the emotional.

Virtual reality's (VR) use for the creation of model house has been studied as a possible counter measure to these problems. Existing models don't satisfy consumers' queries. A virtual model house can give the experience of seeing a real home through simulation. Also, a virtual model house can allow a home buyer to change the furniture on display or the color of the walls to reflect the consumer's taste in the construction. The internal present condition system using absorption style virtual reality and open style virtual reality are the indispensable tools that are going to take the place of the current model home. A virtual model house is more profitable than a physical model house because of reduced costs and time savings. In addition, a virtual model house can offer new kinds of information that a physical model home can not. This study's purpose is to discuss the desired direction of the virtual model house in this crucial and dynamic period of development.

This research aims at finding how the structure of museums and galleries are designed and expressed in the cyber world. It is also intended to analyse factors of their composition.

This study is a preliminary research to develop design principles for environmentally friendly housing. The purposes of study are to investigate the literatures related passive design for summer and theory of ventilation, to analyze the indoor airflow patterns in traditional Korean house during summer, and to propose the design factors for effective passive cooling system. The analysis for airflow patterns was focused on the ‘An bang’and the ‘Dae Chung’in the ‘An Chae’of a traditional house located in Seoul. Field measurements of air temperature and air velocity were carried out at 30 different measuring points with 8 different window-opening conditions. The measurements were taken on the hottest summer days in August 2000. It is concluded that from an environmentally friendly standpoint design factors to control indoor thermal environment by a passive cooling system during the summer are as follows; ceiling structure has thermal performance like a time-lag effect, optimum height and length of eaves which can prevent sunlight and divert airflow toward the sitting level, building arrangement acceptable the prevailing wind, strategic window arrangement which makes cross ventilation possible (especially north-south) at the sitting level, window opening condition which is possible to intersect two cross-ventilation stream at the main living areas, northward windows remaining in shade to create the air pressure difference, and planning building shape like a bracket that has optimum width and depth.

An unified measure of user interface efficiency and aesthetics for cyber museum is proposed. First, general structure of cyber museum is discussed and hierarchical analyses are done for sample sites. Usability tests based on the hierarchical analyses yield statistics of user access frequency and persistency for each page, on which access probability is deduced. Second, visual occupancy, a measure of efficiency of user interface element based on access probability is defined. The hierarchical statistics of visual occupancy can be an index for characterization and classification of cyber museums. Examples are provided.

The purpose of this study is to examine the level of Internet usage by interior design-related websites and information for maintenance of such websites. This study analyzes these websites by their contents and solutions.

Today the social concern about Interior Design gradually requires wide comprehension. Also according to demanders' requirement. Universities cope with speed. Interior Design made by experts for the function and purpose in the conception of decoration. Therefore, Universities we responsible to educate for more capable professional designers. But management is the first concern for Interior Design Company students are going to work at. Interior Design has not the important state yet in Korea, it is hard to manage the company with design alone. As architecture must get admittion, design is apart from construction. but they are worked together in Interior Design. It is true that all the work of construction is Capenters' or technical engineers' work except space design. Of course students are interested in just design not in construction. Students majoring in design need wide understanding of construction not a concept design. but detailed design for construction and proper valuation ability to manage company. I propose component and practical use of nude construction department to understand detailed design.

Since Universal Design emerged as a new design paradigm for future, the strategies of implementing UD in educational setting has been continuously pursued. Many university programs in North America especially explored the possibility and shared their experiences in the international conferences. In asia, however, no attempt was tried. This presentation will share the navigation teaching modules used in a undergraduate course “Interior Environment and Human Behavior” class, its methodology of experience and data analysis, and finally educational outcome. Since UD is a basic human oriented design, the modules surely provided affluent and realistic opportunity for students to feel emotional sympathy to understand a diverse range of users and to facilitate creative design solution for them.

The structures built carelessly become the origin of a serious environmental problem caused from the urbanization. To solve this problem, I have considered the characteristics of Atrium as an environment-friendly factor to the office environment. The result is that Atrium protects the insiders health and contributes to the energy saving as it enables the use of natural lights and solar heat first. Second, it gives the office environment liveliness, makes a clean environment and helps the insiders health for introduction of green field. Third, it plays a role of a place for rest, a place for meeting, and a small park by attracting people to the organic space where the inside and outside are connected with a huge glass. On the basis of these characteristics, we should try to prepare the complementary relationship between human beings and nature mutually through its active introduction in the space.

Goals of this study are to analyze various types of facility disposition which is brought out in the facility space plan of the modernized elementary school which has been founded and conducted by Seoul city, and most of all, to grasp the space propriety through understanding the peculiarity of the plan by the space analysis form. To proceed this study, I will divide it to three steps; 1. First step : Research into the space alternation of an (Korean) elementary school which has been gotten changed by the alternation of an elementary school. 2. Second step : Research into the efficient studying-space of a modernized elementary school by contemplating analysis of cases which comes from the literature research, collecting related data, and making an on-the-spot survey

Finally this study intend to explain the detailed method of expressing regional identity created by architects by investigating the formal characteristics of regionalism and relationship with various context.

Analyzing the result, pedestrian path choice is affected by direction of escalator, visual information of the object, plain form of passage, presence and absence of companion and proportion of spatial knowledge from experience. The subject of this study is analysis and development of the site planning and design trends in Apartment Complexes in the official sector. In order to suggest the new planning and Design method, the study has analyzed the Apartment complexes exemplary, that have built in recent 10 years in Seoul districts. As a results a environmentally friendly planning and design in Apartment complexes estates as a new paradigm for environmentally sound sustainable development. Apartment Unit Plans have few Flexibility and Variability in the inner space.

The study intends to provide basic information about waiting area in cinema. For the purpose above mentioned, it analysis properties of waiting area in 13 multiplex cinema sited on the metropolitan area & opened since 1990's. In addition, it analysis behavior and requirements of audiences. Among 13 multiplex cinema, it especially considered' ‘CGV Kang Byoun 11’ & ‘Goe Pyoung MMC’, studying distribution charts, circulation and behavior of audiences in waiting area. As a result the prior factors to consider in planning step of design are circulation scheme considering separation of admitting & exiting circulation, and space organization according to behavior of audiences.
