A new version of moving actuator electromechanical total artificial heart was designed to improve total efficiency, durability, and fitting inside thoracic cavity. As compared with our present type of the rolling cylinder actuator, this new model has a pendulum-type actuator with reciprocating motion around the fixed circular path, connected through the gear mechanisms to the motor. By using this mechanism, the efficiency and durability could be improved by replacing sliding mechanism with rolling contact elements. Also, the height of the pump could be decreased from 9cm to 7cm with static stroke volume 65cc. With these improvements, we have implanted this new pump in human size animal (less than 70Kg weight).

In this study, a new ensemble average technique was developed to measure cardiac output during treadmill exercise. Each dZ/dt peak (C point) was used as a starting point for ensemble averaging, instead of conventionally used R wave of ECG in order to prevent the peak dZ/dt waveform from blurring. In ease of using R wave as a reference, time interval from R wave to the peak of dZ/dt varies for each heart beat. Stroke volume, heart rate, and cardiac output of five male were successfully measured with Balke protocol using the new ensemble average technique.

He impregnated a highly porous, knitted polyester (Dacron) graft with a biodegradable nonproteinaceous material, algin. This new vascular graft is blood tight but still retains high porosity in the body. It does not need to be preclotted with blood before implantation and has good tissue ingrowth and biological healing properties due to the high porosity. The algin impregnated graft was investigated by "in vitro" examinations in this study. It was characterized by ESCA analysis, SEM observation, and measurements of water permeability, algin coating weight, mechanical properties and whole blood clotting time. The water permeability of the graft was reduced more than 99% by the algin impregnation treatment without changing any mechanical properties. "In vivo" examinations of the algin impregnated vascular graft are on progress.

This paper describes a software algorithm for automatic diagnosis of arrhythmia using the criteria of Minnesota code manual. This algorithm represents more accurate and more objective information to medical doctor by standardizing the criteria of diagnosis of arrhythmia. Because this algorithm doesn't need complicated mathematic processing, it carries out the real-time automatic diagnosis that is very important in clinic. The Decision-Table technology suggests the proper results for the given conditions. So it expresses the complicated medical problems simply and clearly, those are not solved by the mathematical methods. The Decision-Tables have very simple structure and so it is very easy to correct or expand the system by adding or correcting some rules.

This paper presents a new algorithm for P-wave detection in the ECG signal, we get the peak, onset and offset point by using significant point extraction algorithm with 5-point derivative. To these set of extracted significant points, we apply amplitude and duration threshold criterion. we define the set of significant point meeting the criterion as P-wave candidate. Then P-wave candidate is classified through match-process with template. The template with maximum number or P-wave candidate is selected to be the P-wave.

By designing the gradient pulses to be velocity compensated during one pulse cycle in SSFP (steady state free precession) imaging, the flowing spins can be maintained in the steady state. In the new SSFP sequence the flow signal which might be lost in conventional SSFP imaging sequences can be restored owing to the signal contribution from the preceding pulse cycles. By using the proposed SSFP sequence substantial restoration of the flow signal has been observed for the CSF (cerebro spinal fluid) of the human head.

In this paper, we designed and fabricated linear array transducer for ultrasonic medical imaging system. Fabricated transducer is 85mm in length and has 64 elements. It shows good sensitivity and band width characteristics compared with commercial transducers.

In this paper, a new method for lung area segmentation in chest radiographs has been presented. The movivation of this study is to include fuzzy informations about the relation between the image date structure and the area to be segmented in the segmentation process efficiently. The proposed method approached the segmentation problem in the perspective of pattern classification, using trainable pattern classifier, multi-layer perceptron. Having been trained with 10 samples, this method gives acceptable segmentation results, and also demonstrated the desirable property of giving better results as the training continues with more training samples.

지난 수년동안 MR을 이용한 생체내의 인의 분광을 얻기 위한 여러가지 방법들이 연구되었다. 그러나 대부분의 방법들은 선택시간의 지연으로 인하여 선택된 체적에서의 FID 신호가 짧은 T2 시간에 영향을 받았다. 본 논문에서는 인의 분광법으로 적절한 새로운 방법을 제시하였다. 이 방법은 k-공간을 방사형으로 스캔하면서 이루어지는 더 짧은 선택시간으로 T2 감쇄의 영향을 거의 받지 않으며, 좋은 선택도를 얻을 수 있었다.

Modern society is prevailed a lot of allergies. So, the allergy test is very important. There are many kinds of allergy test. A doctor usually uses skin allergy test among many allergy tests. However, little standadization and objectivity of grading-standard has been established in the skin allergy test. A measurement of the reaction area has been a major objective to perform skin allergy test. Recently, a doctor's method is to measure the reaction area after drawing a line that represents the reaction area on the skin. But this method differs slightly from the real reaction area and individual doctor's measurement is different, because the edge of the reaction area is obscure. In this paper, we propose a algorithm which is able to detect vague edges using the fuzzy set. The algorithm that detects the line and curve is proposed first. Here, the maximum value is calculated by comparing the membership function of the line and curve seperately. We also encode the direction of the line and curve by using 8-direction code. Then, we calculate the reaction area by measuring the pixels which are inside the reaction area. And finally the Allergy grade is decided by grading-standard, and we accomplish faster, the 80re accurate and objective allergy grade decision.

In this study, the degree of spectral transfer to lower frequency caused by accumulation of Latic acid inside the muscle is estimated the convintional dip analysis, zero-crossing method and FFT method have intrinsic errors and estimation problems in case of severe noise. The new spectral analysis method using "$2^{nd}$ order Maximum Entropy Method" was applied to estimate mean frequency and we confirmed that this new method yields fast and reliable estimation over the FFT method.

In this study, a peripheral auditory model used as a frequency feature extractor and a recurrent network which has recurrent links on input nodes is constructed in order to show the reliability of the recurrent network as a recognizer by executing recognition tests for 4 Korean placenames and syllables. As a result of this study, a refined weight compensation method is proposed and, using this method, it is possible to improve the system operation. The recurrent network in this study reflects well time information of temporal speech signal.

The purpose of this study is to help the hearing impaired's speech training with a visible speech processing system. In brief, this system converts the features of speech signals into graphics on monitor, and adjusts the features of hearing impaired to normal ones. There are form ant and pitch in the features used for this system. They are extracted using the digital signal processing such as linear prediotive method or AMDF(Average Magnitude Difference Function). In order to effectively train for the hearing impaired's abnormal speech, easilly visible feature has been being studied.

The main concepts in the design and construction of an motorized wheelchair for loading in the car which is intended to drive a disabled to long distance. The wheelchair is basically a powered and folding, so it is designed to motorized manual wheelchair by modularity method. The wheelchair has been installed with a power motor module, battery module, and drive & control module. The goal of this project is to develop a wheelchair that has multifunction and operated disabled who has variety impairment. So we are currently working.

This paper is dedicated to a research on fluorescent temperature-sensor system, which analyses the characteristic of fluorescent material and observes the relation between temperature and time delay of reflected beam from red light through experiment. From the experiment, We know that the reflected be am from flourescent material has some time delay. The intensity of reflected beam is inversly proportional to the temperature around the material.

In this study, LPC cepstrum coefficients are used as feature vector extracted from AR model of EMG signal, and a reduced-connection network which has reduced connection between nodes is constructed to classify and recognize EMG functional classes. The proposed network reduces learning time and improves system stability. Therefore it is shown that the proposed network is appropriate in recognizing the function of EMG signal.
