Fractionation of methanolic extract of Asarum sieboldii monitoring by bioassay resulted in the isolation of methyleugenol as a spasmolytic principle. Its $pD'_2$ value was 4.3.

From the leaves of Zizyphus jujuba (Rhamnaceae), rutin and isoquercitrin were isolated and characterized by chemical and spectral analysis.

To investigate the recorded efficacy in Oriental medical references and effects in clinics, experimental studies were undertaken to estimate 'Palmiwhan' to the diuretic effect in normal rats, rabbits and rats with $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure and hypotensive effects on the nephrogenous hypertension in rabbits with $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure. The results of this study were summarized as follows; Increase in urinary volume, urinary $Na^+\;and\;Cl^-$ excretions were significantly recognized in normal rats and rabbits. Increase in urinary volume, urinary $Na^+\;and\;Cl^-$ excretions were significantly shown in rats with 2mg/kg $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure. Although plasma electrolyte and creatinine levels were little affected, plasma urea nitrogen levels were significantly elevated in normal rats and 2mg/kg $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure of rats. Although the blood pressure was not affected in normal rabbits and cats, hypotensive actions due to the diuretic effect were recognized in rabbits $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure.

It was previously indicated that 'Samulanshintang' had been examined for effects of the anticonvulsive, antipyretic, analgesic, sedative and antispasmodic actions. In order to investigate the effect on the cardiovascular system and anemic rabbits induced by phenlhydrazine HCl, pharmacological studies have been carried out with extract. The results of this investigation were summarized as follows: The relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle and antihistamine action were recognized. Antihypertensive and vasodilating actions due to vascular smooth muscle relaxation were noted in frogs and rabbits. 'Samulanshintang' lowered the rate of anemia induced by phenylhydrazine and rapidly recovered from the anemia state.

Analgesic activity of the 'Ssangkum-tang' (water extract) were studied. Analgesic activities were determined by the acetic acid method, hot plate method and Randall-Sellito method. The water fraction showed a significant inhibitory effect at the dose of 1.25g/kg, 2.5g/kg and 5.0g/kg.

The effects of 'Ssangkum-tang' on the acute gastritis and the gastric ulcer caused by acetic acid were studied. The water extract improved the inflammation of the acute gastritis and decreased the diameter of the ulcer area.

The extract of Ssangkum-tang was investigated on antiinflammatory activities. The extract showed antiedematous action at a dose of 500mg/kg po in carrageenin edema test in rats. The extract also inhibited the leakage of pontamine sky blue into peritoneal cavity in mice at the doses of 300 and 500mg/kg po.

The effect of saponin fractions of Panax ginseng root on the interactions of human plasma lipoproteins and lecithin dispersions with dextran sulfate were studied in order to examine the effect of Panax ginseng on the lipid accumulation in the aorta. The total saponin fraction and protopanaxadiol glycosides of Panax ginseng root seemed to slightly enhance the interaction of low density lipoproteins with dextran sulfate in the absence of divalent metal ions. Protopanaxatriol glycosides remarkably inhibited the interaction of low density lipoproteins with dextran sulfate. However, all of these three saponin fractions of Panax ginseng root showed the tendency of inhibition to the interaction of high density lipoproteins with dextran sulfate in the presence of divalent metal ions by the order of protopanxatriol glycosides, protopanaxadiol glycosides and total saponin. Three saponin fractions of Panax ginseng exerted almost same tendency to the interaction of lecithin dispersions with dextran sulfate in the presence of divalent metal ions as the interaction of low density lipoproteins with dextran sulfate absence of divalent metal ions.
