한국에 자생하는 ${\ulcorner}$좀물푸레나무${\lrcorner}$의 수피에서 fraxin, fraxetin-8-glucoside $(mp.\;204{\sim}5^{\circ})$를 달리 확인하였다.

Polygalitol, $C_6H_{12}O_5$ mp $142.5{\sim}3^{\circ}$, was isolated from the fresh leaves of Acer ginnala Max. (Aceraceae).

Phlomis umbrosa Turcz. ('Sok-dan') is a perennial herb in Labiatae plants. Shanzhiside methyl ester was isolated from butanol extract of this plant. It was obtained as amorphous powder and its molecular formula is $C_{17}H_{26}O_{11}$. Its structure was determined by chemical reactions, spectral analysis and compared with authentic sample of its pentaacetate.

Experimental studies were implemented to evaluate clinical efficacy of 'Daeshiho-Tang' and to validate Oriental medicine description of the recipe which has been widely used in metabolic diseases and febrile diseases. Following results were obtained; 1. Suppressive action was shown on convulsion due to cerebrocortical causes but no such action was noted either myelic or diencephatic causes in mice. 2. Analgesic and antipyretic actions were recognized in mice, rats and rabbits. 3. Antispasmodic actions were recognized on contraction of the ileum induced by $BaCl_2$ and histamine in mice and guinea-pigs. 4. Transport accelerating action of the small intestine was gained in mice.

To experimentally research out the effect of 'Hagocho-San' used for liver disease on the clinical treatment of oriental medicine, I induced liver damage rats by thioacetamide and dosed the extracts orally and measured the activity rate of GOT, GPT, ALP and LDH. The following results were obtained: 1) GOT activity was more decreased in the experimental group than in the control group. Extracts from mixed decoction was more efficacious than those mixed form of the extracts after individual decoction. Extracts from decoction showed continuous significance after 48 hours on, but mixed form of extracts after individual decoction was significant only after 48 hours and 96 hours. 2) GPT activity was more decreased in the experimental group than in the control group. Extracts from mixed decoction was effective after 48 hours on but mixed form of extracts after individual decoction was significant after 48 hours and 72 hours. 3) ALP activity was more decreased in the experimental group than in the control group. Extracts from mixed decoction was more efficacious than the mixed form of extracts after individual decoction and significance was verified after 72 hours on. 4) The significance of LDH activity in the extracts from mixed decoction was revealed after 72 hours and 96 hours but mixed form of extracts after individual decoction showed significance 72 hours later. 5) From the above results, it was showed that 'Hagocho-San' extract was effective on liver disease and extracts from mixed decoction was more effective than mixed form of extracts after individual decoction.

The results of the comparison among the effect of 'Bingso-San' extract powder, 'Kamibingso-San' extract powder, separately extracted 'Bingso-San' extract powder and separately extracted 'Kamibingso-San" extract powder are as follows: 1) All prescriptions were tested for analgesic effects in mouse, having pain caused by acetic acid, and their voluntarinesses were recognized. And separately extracted 'Kamibingso-San' extract powder has the most effective analgesic function, then 'Kamibingso-San' extract powder, then 'Bingso-San' extract powder, then separately extracted 'Bingso-San' extract powder. 2) The anti-inflammatory effects of 'Bingso-San' extract powder and 'Kamibingso-San' extract powder on the edema at the rat paw showed significantly statistical value than those of the other prescriptions. 3) According to the above mentioned results it was concluded that the addition of Olibanum and Clematidis Radix strengthen the algesic effect of 'Bingso-San' and there is addition in the anti-inflammatory effect of the 'Bingso-San' extract powder.

These studies were conducted in an attempt to investigate effects of 'Daeshiho-Tang' on the blood vessels, activities of liver enzyme and excretory action of bile juice in serum of $CCl_4-intoxicated$ rabbits, glucose and total cholesterol levels in serum of alloxan-induced diabetic rabbits. The result of these studies were summarized as follows; 1. Hypotensive ind vaso-dilatating actions due to vascular smooth muscle relaxation were noted in frogs, rabbits and dogs. 2. GOT, GPT and total cholesterol in serum of $CCl_4-intoxicated$ rabbits showed significant depressive effects. 3. Significantly increased biliary secretary effect was noted in $CCl_4-intoxicated$ rabbits. 4. Glucose and total cholesterol levels showed markedly decraese in alloxan-induced diabetic rabbits. Considering the experimental studies results, it is suggested that 'Daeshiho-Tang' has therapeutic efficacy to treat febrile diseses and metabolic diseases.
