We examined the generation of harmonic voltage by a synchronous machine adding d-axis and q-axis harmonic field windings in order to reduce the harmonics in a power line. We derived the expressions of the armature voltage in the case of supplying the currents with the frequency nf to the d-axis and q-axis harmonic field windings. We constructed the synchronous machine adding the harmonic windings. In this paper, the expressions and the experimental results on the generation of harmonic voltages by the synchronous machine are presented. -

Based on classical Berotti discrete iron loss calculation model, the iron loss analysis mathematical model of alternator was proposed in this paper. Considering characteristics of high speed and changing frequency of the alternator, Maxwell 3-D model was built to analyze iron loss corresponding to each running speed in alternator. Based on iron loss model of alternator at rated speed, the rotor claw pole size was made an optimization design. The optimization results showed that alternator's output performance had been improved. A new idea was explored in size optimization design of claw pole alternator. -
Fault-tolerant capability, wide speed range and overload capability are required in electric motors used in electric vehicles. In this paper, based on the analysis of the all poles wound and alternate poles wound flux-switching permanent-magnet machines, an optimization method is studied to reduce torque ripple. The method takes account of both flux-leakage and cogging torque. The simulation result shows that the method can reduce the torque ripple effectively. This study lays the foundation for the further application of FSPM in electric vehicles.

Applications such as vibration isolation, gravity compensation, pick-and-place machines, etc., would benefit from (long-stroke) cylindrical/tubular permanent magnet (PM) actuators with integrated passive gravity compensation to minimize the power consumption. As an example, in component placing (pick-and-place) machines on printed circuit boards, passive devices allow the powerless counteraction of translator including nozzles or tooling bits. In these applications, an increasing demand is arising for high-speed actuation with high precision and bandwidth capability mainly due to the placement head being at the foundation of the motion chain, hence, a large mass of this device will result in high force/power requirements for the driving mechanism (i.e. an H-bridge with three linear permanent magnet motors placed in an H-configuration). This paper investigates a tubular actuator topology combined with passive gravity compensation. These two functionalities are separately introduced, where the combination is verified using comprehensive three dimensional (3D) finite element analyses. -
This paper presents a method for calculating iron losses in three-phase induction motors under the inverter supply through the field-circuit coupled time-stepping finite element method (FEM). Iron losses are calculated by using the three-term iron losses separated model and modifying the loss coefficients obtained by the iron losses curves which are provided by the manufacturer under the sinusoidal supply. Simulation results by the presented method are verified by the measured results with an error lower than 5%, confirming the validity of the proposed method. Finally, iron losses distribution of the inverter-fed three-phase induction prototype motor is shown.

This paper introduces a novel method of on-line identifying the stator resistance and leakage inductance of dual three phase induction motor (DTPIM). According to the machine mathematical model, the stator resistance and leakage inductance can be estimated using the voltage and current values in harmonic subspace. Thus a method of voltage vector injection in harmonic subspace (VVIHS) is proposed, which causes currents in harmonic space. Then the errors between command and actual harmonic currents are utilized to regulate the machine parameters, including stator resistance and leakage inductance. The principle is presented and analyzed in detail. Experimental results prove the feasibility and validity of proposed method. -
This paper presents the new structure of a spindle motor for hard disk drive (HDD). It can produce axial force as well as torque without a pulling plate or a pulling magnet required for the normal operation of a hydrodynamic bearing in rotating-shaft structure. The proposed models have different air gap length along the axial direction by changing the thickness of permanent magnet (PM). One has a single slope and the other has double slopes on the surface of PM. For the design of the proposed models, variables are defined and its effects on the motor performances are investigated by 3-demensional finite element analysis (FEA). The equi-performance curves are investigated for the main characteristics of the spindle motor such as generated torque, axial force and torque ripple ratio. The validity of the proposed models is verified by the feasibility study and performance evaluation.

The torque was calculated with inductance and iron loss. Because the linkage flux can change the inductance, and q-axis current can change the iron loss. Therefore, precise estimation of torque can achieve with the inductance and iron loss detail calculations. So, in this paper, the d, q-axis inductance was verified through CVCT(Current Vector Control Test) and DCT(Direct Current Test). Also in the iron loss calculation, the prediction of all areas of current magnitude, phase angle and speed was very difficult. And LUT(Look-Up Table) was spent time and resource largely. Therefore, iron loss mathematization was proposed according to current magnitude, phase angle and speed. Also, characteristics of IPMSM were comprised of analyzed and experimental values.

Doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) systems widely used globally are highly sensitive to the grid disturbance due to the structure that the stator is connected to the grid. In the past, when a grid fault occurs in order to prevent a system, generators are separated from the grid regardless of the fault duration time. Recently, however, the grid connection standards(Grid Code)says that for the failures removed within a certain time, the generator remains operation without separating from the grid. This paper proposes a new flux tracking LVRT(Low-Voltage Ride Through) control based on system modeling equations. The validity of the proposed strategy has been demonstrated by computer simulations. -

The fractional slot windings are widely used in rotating machine in order to increase the flexibility of design and improve the voltage waveform. However, the MMF wave of fractional-slot windings are found to contain unique harmonic component, which are designated as even order space flux harmonics, fractional number flux harmonics, or both. They may cause stray loss and stator core vibration. This paper proposes new winding methods "novel interspersed windings" and "expanded group windings" to reduce these harmonics. The advantages of two proposed windings are verified by using numerical analysis and measurement test of winding model. -
A multilevel inverter employing a cascade transformer is proposed for a silent-discharge-tube ozone generating system. The proposed inverter consists of four full-bridge inverters and fourteen transformers which have a series-connected secondary. It can accurately control the amplitude of the output voltage; hereby, it improves a linear characteristic of the rate of ozone yielding. The power regulation characteristics and operational principle of the proposed system are explained from a practical point of view. High precision ozone generating performance of the proposed multilevel inverter is verified by computer-aided simulations and experiment results.

This paper performs two kinds of Field-Oriented Control (FOC) for dual three phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (DTP-PMSM).The first is based on vector space decomposition to study the effect of current harmonics on electromechanical energy conversion. And the second presents the coupling relations between two sets of windings using two d-q transformation. And then this paper has deeply studied the differences between these two strategies, the different effect on the control of harmonic current and the reason for these differences. MATLAB-based Simulation studies of a 3KW DTP-PMSM are carried out to verify the analysis of differences between the two FOC strategies.

Power converter plays a very important role in switched reluctance motor (SRM) systems, and it is also the easiest one to experience failures. Power converter faults will cause the motor to run in non equilibrium states, and a long time fault operation will lead to motor and other modules damaged, and make the system completely lose working stability. This paper uses an asymmetric bridge converter as the research object with three-phase SRM, employs the wavelet packet decomposition for the phase currents. It analyzes and studies the short circuit fault condition of IGBT, uses an energy discrete degree of the wavelet packet nodes as the fault characteristic, and conducts the corresponding experimental and simulation analysis to verify the effectiveness and practicality of the proposed method.

As a number of wind power generation systems have been installed in power systems in the world, frequency fluctuations due to output power variations from wind farms have become a serious problem. Battery systems have been studied for smoothing the output variations and decreasing the resulting frequency fluctuations. Among these studies, efficient design of battery systems is one of the most important subjects from a point of view of cost. This paper presents a comparative analysis of the smoothing effect between the conventional moving average method and a new method based on frequency response analysis. -

This paper presents the multi-objective optimisation of an Inductive Coupled Power Transfer (ICPT) device. A setup as complicated as the one at hand in this paper is extremely hard to model analytically. To acquire some knowledge about the influence of the geometric factors, a sensitivity analysis is first performed using design of experiment (DoE) and finite-element modelling (FEM). It allows validating that the choice of the free factors is relevant. This being done, the optimisation itself is performed using a genetic algorithm (GA), with two objectives and a strict functioning constraint. -

The PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) system is a new transportation system in accordance with the requirements of the passengers. Although this PRT system was proposed a long time ago, it did not hold the limelight due to the several limitations in technology. However, the research and development has been active again recently thanks to the development in technology and the review on its applicability as the means of transportation linking to the urban transit system. Although most of these recent studies in relation to the PRT are focused on the hardware such as PRT vehicles or track structures, etc., the operational aspect of it is more important than that of any other means of public transportation. Therefore, among studies on operational aspect of this PRT system, this paper shows the result of study on technology in relation to the movement of vehicle to the station where it was called by the passenger through interface of the wayside control center with the vehicle control system in case where the passenger calls a vehicle at the station. -
This paper presents the effect on application of the flywheel energy storage system (FESS) for load frequency control (LFC) of an interconnected 2 area power system. To do this, the control characteristics with the FESS were compared with that of the conventional governor controller. The controller for the FESS control and the governor control used a PID type controller. Both the FESS PID controller and the governor PID controller using genetic algorithm (GA) were designed to optimize the PID parameters. The frequency and generation output characteristics with the only FESS controller and with the only conventional governor controller were compared. To verify robust performance of the FESS controller, the computer simulations were performed under various disturbances. The simulation results showed that the FESS controller provided better dynamic responses in comparison with the conventional governor controller.

The electrical vehicles (EV) with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capability can be used as loads, energy sources and energy storage in MicroGrid integrated with renewable energy sources. The output power of generators will be reallocated in the considering of V2G. An intelligent unit commitment (UC) with V2G for cost optimization is presented in this paper. A new constraint of UC with V2G is considered to satisfy daily use of EVs. A hybrid optimiza-tion algorithm combined Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) with Lagrange Mul-tipliers Method (LMM) is proposed. The difference between results of UC with V2G and UC without V2G is presented.
