This study is an investigation for the ADS optimum design by using FEA. We write out program which express ADS perfectly and reduce the required time for correcting of model to the minimum in solution and manufacture result. We complete algorithm which can plan optimum forming of model by feedback error information in CAE. Then we correct model by feedback date obtaining in solution process, repeat course following stress solution again and do modeling rachet wheel for optimum forming. That is our aim. In rachet wheel, greatest equivalence stress originates in key groove corner and KS standard is proved the design for security.

A new model utilizing a transfer function is introduced in the present paper for analizing motion errors of hydrostatic tables. Relationship between film reaction force in a single hydrostatic pad and form error of a guide rail is derived at various spacial frequencies by finite element analysis, and it is expressed as a transfer function. This transfer function clarifies so called averaging effect of the oil film quantitively. For example, it is found that the amplitide of the film reaction force is reduced as the spacial frequency increases or relative width of the pocket is reduced. Motion errors of a multiple pad table is estimated from transfer function, geometric relationship between each pads and form errors of a guide rail, which is named as Transfer Function Method. Calculated motion errors by TFM show good agreement with motion errors calculated by Multi Pad Method, which is considered entire table as an analysis object. From the results, it is confirmed that the proposed TFM is very effective to analyze the motion errors of hydrostatic tables.

An accumulator in hydraulic systems stores kinetic energy during braking action, and then that controls hasty surge pressure. An energy recovery system using accumulator seems to be advantageous for ERBS due to its high energy density. This study suggests a method to decide suitable accumulator volume for ERBS. The method is based upon energy conservation between kinetic energy of moving inertia and elastic energy of accumulator. The energy conversion was analyzed and a simple formula was derived. A series of computer simulation was done to verify effectiveness of the formula. The results of the simulation work were compared with those of experiments and these results show that the proposed design is effective for decision accumulator volume in ERBS.

Cochlea is well known to have the ability to analyze a wide frequency and this ability seems to be caused to the Basilar Membrane(BM) configuration. However, the relationship between the Cochlea frequency-position map is not clear. In this paper, the three-dimensional BM Model was made using the Finite Element method. Then, an attempt was made to examine the influence of the BM configuration on the Cochlea frequency-position map. Theoretical consideration reveals that the wide frequency-position of Cochlea is achieved by not only the BM configuration change along the length of the Cochlea but also the change of the Young's module of the BM along the length of the Cochlea.

Screw conveyors are used extensively in industrial for conveying and elevating materials. Despite their apparent simplicity, the mechanics of the conveying action is very complex. so many engineers depend on experiential data. Capacities of screw are pumping, steady flow of polymer melts, steady volumetric throughput etc. they are affected by geometry of screw, heat flux, pressure on inside barrel, rotating velocity, friction coefficient at screw surface etc. by computation volumetric efficiency increases as rotating velocity increases and decreases as friction coefficient increases. also it decreases with short pitch length. and double flight screw is more effective than single flight screw. The temperature of polymer melts by heating pad and injection pressure play a very important role in the injection molding machine. so in this paper we analyze thermal distortion and stress of screw includes pressure and temperature distributions by finite element analysis to understand what design factors influence on volumetric throughput efficiency of the screw and thermo-mechanical characteristics of screw.

The median barrier is one of the roadside hardware to prevent severe human and property damage from highway traffic accidents. The foreign standard of concrete median barrier was introduced and implemented without modification fitting to domestic vehicle and highway condition. In a car accident, median barrier doesn't protect vehicle effectively, especially for heavy vehicle such as bus and heavy truck. The purpose of this study is to develop the optimal performance design of concrete median barrier using the design of experiment with crash simulation analysis which is done by Pam-Crash that is one of the commercial crash simulation software. As a result of this study, an optimal design of concrete median barrier is obtained considering von Mises stress, volume and COG acceleration of truck.

The relationship between structural geometry and number of life cycles to failure is investigated to improve the fatigue life of structural components. The linear elastic fracture mechanics(LEFM) approach is integrated with shape optimal design methodology. The primary objective of this study is to decide an optimal shape for enhancing the life of the structure. The results from LEFM analyses are used in the fatigue model to predict the life of the structure before failure is occurred. The shape of the structure is optimized by using the growth strain method. Relevant issues such as problem formulation, finite element modeling are explained. Three design examples are solved, and the results show that, with proper shape changes, the life of structural systems subjected to fatigue loads can be enhanced significantly.

One of the important technical issues is how to decrease thermal expansion of ballscrew in proportion to the increase of machining speed. when measuring force of stretch of ballscrew, since not only actual expansion and the value of bending have to be considered, it's impossible to definite the exact value of expansion. In addition, support bearings of ballscrew gain considerable force in axial direction. It also generates thermal expansion on the ballscrew, and deteriorates the bearings. In conclusion, it's impossible to give the pretension enough to absorb the all elongation due to thermal expansion generated during machine running. If gave, bed, column and saddle are all bent to change machine accuracy, and the support bearings of ballscrew are damaged. The purpose of this paper is to study the pretension of support bearing of ballscrew in machine tool.

The way to reduce wear quantity of numerical control machine tool slideway is highfrequency heat treatment process for slideway in GC300 By using this way mentioned above We can expect the increase of Rockwell hardness from Rockwell hardness 30 to 48∼55. The deformation quantity caused by high-frequency heat treatment results in increasing nonwork time at the following process grinding work so it is important that we minimize the deformation quantity as much as possible. This thesis will propose one of the ways to minimize nonwork time at grinding work we first prospect the deformation quantify and process the rough cutting considering the data.

A new flaw detection technique using by SH angle beam method has been discussed. The SH-wave is horizontally polarized shear wave and the surface SH wave has a characteristic of traveling along near surface layer. The surface SH wave technique is valuable for the detection of fatigue cracks at fillet weld heels which cannot be detected by other ultrasonic technique such as angle beam technique and The dispersion curves of it has simple characterization. In this work, using these beneficial chraterization, quality evaluation of spot weld with ultrasonic sound intensity of SH-wave passing through nugget area of spot weld are verified experimentally.

In this work, an ER clutch has been constructed and its characteristics have been evaluated by adapting an electro-rheological fluid(ERF) as an operating medium. ER fluids are suspensions which show an abrupt increase in rheological properties under electric fields. An ER clutch system using ER fluid is a new conception device because an apparent viscosity of ER fluid can be changed by apply an electric field. As a first, Bingham properties of ER fluids are experimentally distilled as a function of electric field. We use the disk type ER clutch in which the ER fluid fills the annular space between a pair of coaxial disk electrodes and experiment results show that the measured revolution per minute was increased with the increase of the electric field. The ER fluid used in the present study consists of weight fraction 35% in zeolite suspended silicone oil.

The use of hexagonal ceramic inserts for copper extrusion dies offers significant technical and economic advantages over other forms of manufacture. In this paper the data on the loading of the tools is determined from a commercial FEM package as the contact stress distribution on the die-workpiece interface and as temperature distributions in the die. This data can be processed as load input data for a finite element die-stress analysis. Process simulation and stress analysis are thus combined during the design, and a data exchange program has been developed that enables optimal design of the dies taking into account the elastic deflections generated in shrink fitting the die inserts and that caused by the stresses generated in the process. The stress analysis of the dies is used to determine the stress conditions on the ceramic insert by considering contact and interference effects under both mechanical and thermal loads.

This paper presents the numerical analysis and experimental verification to know the metal cutting burr formation mechanism in face milling operation. Finite element method are applied to predict the 2-D burr formation process prediction. Face milling process are adjusted to analyze the characteristics of burr shapes according to various cutting conditions. The cutting parameters were investigated with cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut. Through a few experiments, various burr types are classified according to its shape and properties.

In order to suggest the proper optimal conditions of the CNC milling machining for the Thin-wall surface, some experiments were carried out. The process was applied in the aerospace industry for the machining of light alloys, notably aluminium. In recent year, however, the mold and die industry has begun to use the technology for the production of components, including those manufactured from hardened tool steels. And the end mill is an important tool in the milling process. A typical example for the end mill is the milling of pocket and slot in which a lot of material is removed from the workpiece. Therefore the proper selection of cutting parameter for end milling is one of the important factors affecting the cutting cost. In this paper, we choose the optimal parameters(cutting forces) to cut thin-walled Al part by experiment.

A cylindrical capacitance-type spindle displacement sensor was designed and tested in the hard turning as a way to develop a sensor that can estimate cutting forces without using a tool dynamometer. The displacement sensor was installed between the face of spindle cover and the chucking element, and measured pure radial motion of the spindle. Ceramic inserts and tool steel workpieceof 65 Rc were used during the hard turning tests. The signals from the sensor showed the same pattern of cutting force variations as those from the tool dynamometer. The research results showed that the developed sensor could be utilized as an effective and cheap on-line sensing device to estimate cutting forces.

Recently, coated milling cutters are widely used for improving the productivity of cutting processes through high speed cutting and longer tool life. In metal cutting, cutting force increase rate is important factor to diagnose the cutting conditions because the amount of tool wear directly influences the cutting forces. As the cutting length increases, the worn cutter increases the cutting forces. In this study, the effect of coating process of end milling cutter on the cutting performance, especially on the cutting force increase rate, is investigated. The results acquired through the cutting test measuring cutting force increase rate show that not only the injection quantity of
$N_2$ and Ar but also mean temperature influence the cutting force increase rate during the end milling process. -
In order to establish the optimum process parameters and diamond saw blade composition for machining natural stone, the chip formation process and the wear process must be understood. Diamond saw blade is one of the most effective, versatile, and extensively used methods of processing rock and other hard materials, such as granite, marble, concrete and asphalt. For many years, it has been known that chip thickness is one of the most significant in the understanding of the sawing process, and other variables such as force and power have been correlated with it. In this study, mathematical relations of a material chipped by a single grit of the saw blade will be undertaken. The material chipping geometries have been mathematically defined and derived as maximum chip thickness.

Control system for cutting piston used in vehicle that is one of the 3D shape cutting using CNC lathe is presented. In order to cut the hybrid piston shape using CNC lathe, defined piston shape and change into machine code. The control software was developed for the high speed piston shape cutting. In this paper, the performance of this software was evaluated practically. As a result, the evaluated cutting precision was quantitatively compared with theoretical precision. Also the productivity and the quality by using CNC lathe with control software were evaluated those by using profiling.

An image processing method was applied to characterize a shape of the flexible grinding disk. A disk surface image was taken by CCD camera. Depth of cut was changed to be 2 and 4mm. Circles marked on the disk were captured to extract the key features of the deflection. Notable correlation has been observed between the intervals and the process conditions. Same methodology has been applied to check the symmetry of the human face. Tentative results revealed that symmetry could be checked using the filtered face image.

In this study, a vision system with image processing method have been introduced to find the edge radius of curvature. It was applied to inspect the edge quality of the deburring process product with brush grinding. Size of data was found to be critical in calculating the radius of curvature. Results using laser measurement system were compared.

Diagnosis or measurements using Infrared thermo-image hasn t been available. A quick diagnosis and thermal analysis can be possible when that kind of system is introduced to the investigation of each part. In this study, Infrared Camera, Thermo-vision 900 was used in order to investigate. Infrared Camera usually detects only Infrared wave from the light in order to illustrate the temperature distribution. Infrared diagnosis system can be applied to various field. Also, it is more effective to analyze temperature distribution on the machining center main-axis process.

The purpose of this paper is to develop image inspection system endows an automatic operating and measuring that the moment values are invariant with respect to variable object size and rotation. In this paper, using these moment feature vector with Hu s 7 invariant moment is also given. The characteristics of section which is applied in the mechanics used moment descriptor of invariant moment detection algorithm for image inspection system. Corresponding rates between 94% and 96% have been achived for all object tested.

Since recent production system becomes that of the small quantity, large volume with high quality production, accurate and high speed inspection system is required. In such situation, noncontact 3D measurement system which utilized CCD cameras is useful technique in terms of system cost, speed of data acquisition, measuring accuracy and application. However, it has low accuracy compared with contact 3D measurement system because of the camera distortion, non uniformity of laser distribution and so on. For those reasons, in this paper precision enhancement method is studied considering radial camera distortion, and laser distribution. A distortion correction method is applied even to the standard lens. The laser slit beam trajectory is determined by 3 method: based of the Gaussian function signal approximation, the median method, the center of gravity method and the peak point of the Gaussian function method.

Volumetric error measurement and calibration of a coordinate measuring machine are studied by using a Ball-Bar artifact. Examples of the Ball-Bar design are shown using inbar materials and precision steel balls. Also, for the uncertainty error using the Ball-Bar is discussed. Method of Ball-Bar artifact and the analysis of the error vectors are proposed. Using the Ball-Bar data, we studied the method of volumetric errors ana]ysis of a coordinate measuring machine.

This paper presents the experimental study of the static stiffness for the BT Shank(7/24 Long Taper) and the HSK Tool Shank(1/10 Short taper). The static stiffness test was performed under different experimental conditions. The results obtained are as follows ; As known in the analysis results of the Load-Deflection diagram of the 7/24 Test tool shank, it is turned out that the diagram is a linear characteristics without regard to axial drawing force and according as the axial drawing force get to the 6kN, the static stiffness of the shank increase linearly. Thus the effective axial drawing force which maintains the static stiffness of the Main spindle taper of Machine Tool is larger than 6kN. It is found that the Load-Deflection diagram with 6kN of drawing force in the 1/10 Test tool shank is characterized by non-linear. But according as the axial drawing force is increasing by the 8kN, the diagram is characterized by linear. And increasing amount of deflection is about 60%. Therefore commendable axial drawing force is larger than 8kN. As a result, considering that the actual drawing force of the Machining Center is about 1300kgf and axial drawing force 12kN is equivalent amount as a 1220kgf, it is turned out that 1/10 Test tool shank superior to 7/24 Test tool shank in the static stiffness.

Currently knowledge of strain in welds has mainly been obtained from strain gaging method; that is directly attaching most of the material to the gage. The very few non-contact method are still in the early stage. One of the non-contact methods is by the use of the laser that has high-level of the accuracy for the measurement, and this laser also has excellent characteristics on which many studies for its applications are focused throughout the many fields. The dissertation is on the measurement of the strain caused by the characteristics and the temperature changes of the TIG welded zone which is used with 3D ESPI system that is functionally modified through the laser ESPI system. This system employed the aluminum sheet-metal which are mainly used for the steel plate such as for the electronics, chemistry, food instrument and electronic appliances.

This paper presents performance analysis of two-linked robot system using ER (electro rheological) valve actuators. An ER fluid consisting of soluble chemical starches (particles) and silicone oil is made and its field-dependent yield stress is experimentally distilled using electro-viscometer. From this result, the design parameters of ER valve are determined. Based on parameter study, an ER valve system is designed and manufactured. Furthermore, the measured pressure drop is compared with predicted one obtained from the Bingham model. Following the evaluation of field-dependent pressure drop of ER valve, a two-linked robot system with two ER valve actuators is then constructed and its governing equation of motion is derived. From this equation, PID controller is established. Consequently, control performances of the proposed two-linked robot system featuring ER valve are evaluated.

This paper describes the methodology of an IEC 1131-3-based control logic generator for the control system design and converting algorithm between programmable languages. The proposed control logic generator is generated based on the software model and common element with data type, variables, POUs(program organization unit) and execution control unit commonly used within programmable languages of IEC 1131-3 Standard. The generation method of object file was proposed on five programmable language based on IECI 131-3. The generation method of object file is represented as following; 1) the generation method using conversion algorithm from LD to IL with FBD(function block diagram), 2) the generation method using C code generation algorithm from SFC using the SFC execution sequence with FBD and ST(structured text). The proposed control logic generator was implemented by Visual C++ and MFC on MS-windows NT 4.0

This paper presents an strategy algorithm of a soccer robot. We simply classified strategy of soccer robot as attack and defense. We use DC-motor in our Soccer Robot. We use the vision system made by MIRO team of Kaist and Soty team for image processing. Host computer is made by Pentium III. The RF module is used for the communication between each robot and the host computer. Fuzzy logic is applied to the path planning of our robot. We improve strategy algorithm of soccer robot. Here we explain improvement of strategy algorithm and fault of the our soccer robot system.

This study deals with CARS (Computer Aided ROMUM System) which is a computer version of ROMUM (RObot Modularization of the Unit Motion). ROMUM was a method developed by the concept of modularization of the unit motion of robots. Because CARS is a computer assisted method of menu-driven type for human interface, this method can be easily applied for analyzing the work motion and measuring the execution time of robots. Therefore, it will be helpful for reducing the analysis effort and time of robot work.

Generally, main factors of tool damage are cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut. The increase of those factors can cause tool breakage or worsen product quality such as machining accuracy deterioration. Those three factors are concerned with cutting force. Cutting force reaches at its maximum value when cutter blade cuts away the object directly, and it is the time when tool damages are at high probability. In this study, we detect the maximum cutting force affecting tool damage and control the maximum cutting force based on the measured peak force.

This work describes the modeling of cutting process for feedback control based on signal processing in end-milling. Here, cutting force is used to design control model by a variety of schemes which are moving average, ensemble average, peak value, root mean square and analog low-pass filtering. It is expected that each model offers its own peculiar advantage in following cutting force control.

In this paper, we developed a Windows 98 version of-line programming system which can simulate a track vehicle model in 3D graphics space. The track vehicle was adopted as an objective model. The interface between users and the off-line program system in the Windows 98's graphic user interface environment was also studied. The developing language is Microsoft Visual C++. Graphic libraries, OpenGL, by Silicon Graphics, Inc. were utilized for 3D Graphics.

In this paper, it is presented a new technique to the design and real-time implementation of fuzzy control system based-on digital signal processors in order to improve the precision and robustness for system of industrial robot. Fuzzy control has emerged as one of the most active and fruitful areas for research in the applications of fuzzy set theory, especially in the real of industrial processes. In this thesis, a self-organizing fuzzy controller for the industrial robot manipulator with a actuator located at the base is studied. A fuzzy logic composed of linguistic conditional statements is employed by defining the relations of input-output variable of the controller, In the synthesis of a FLC, one of the most difficult problems is the determination of linguistic control rules from the human operators. To overcome this difficult, SOFC is proposed for a hierarchical control structure consisting of basic level and high level that modify control rules.

Objective of this paper is to develop a new approach involving the use of an Artificial Neural Network(ANN) and multiple regression methods in the prediction of process parameters on bead height for GMA welding process. Using a series of robotic are welding, multi-pass butt welds carried out in order to verify the performance of the neural network estimator and multiple regression methods. To verify the developed system, the design parameters of the neural network estimator are selected from an estimation error analysis. The experimental results show that the proposed models can predict the bead height with reasonable accuracy and guarantee the uniform weld quality.

In this paper, we have proposed a new approach to the design of robot vision system to develop the technology for the automatic test and assembling of precision mechanical and electronic parts for the factory automation. In order to perform real time implementation of the automatic assembling tasks in the complex processes, we have developed an intelligent control algorithm based-on neural networks control theory to enhance the precise motion control. Implementing of the automatic test tasks has been performed by the real-time vision algorithm based-on TMS320C31 DSPs. It distinguishes correctly the difference between the acceptable and unacceptable defective item through pattern recognition of parts by the developed vision algorithm. Finally, the performance of proposed robot vision system has been illustrated by experiment for the similar model of fifth cell among the twelve cell for automatic test and assembling in S company.

In this paper, we propose a remote controller for robot manipulator using local area network(LAN) and internet. To do this, we develope a server-client system as used in the network field. The client system is in any computer in remote place for the user to log-in the server and manage the remote factory. the server system is a computer which controls the manipulator and waits for a access from client. The server system consists of several control algorithms which is needed to drive the manipulator and networking system to transfer images that shows states of the work place, and to receive a Tmp data to run the manipulator. The client system consists of 3D(dimension) graphic user interface for teaching and off-line task like simulation, external hardware interface which makes it easier for the user to teach. Using this server-client system, the user who is on remote place can edit the work schedule of manipulator, then run the machine after it is transferred and monitor the results of the task.

A lot of researches have been done in teleoperation field. For accurate and reliable teleoperation, force reflection is required so that the master can feel the same force, which is measured at reflection have been applied to most of the master device. Therefore the master can not control the force exerted by the slave robot to the environment. But some tasks such as an insertion with very small tolerance, skewing bolt and so forth, require the force command from the master.

Neural networks are used in the framework of sensorbased tracking control of robot manipulators. They learn by practice movements the relationship between PSD (an analog Position Sensitive Detector) sensor readings for target positions and the joint commands to reach them. Using this configuration, the system can track or follow a moving or stationary object in real time. Furthermore, an efficient neural network architecture has been developed for real time learning. This network uses multiple sets of simple backpropagation networks one of which is selected according to which division (corresponding to a cluster of the self-organizing feature map) in data space the current input data belongs to. This lends itself to a very training and processing implementation required for real time control.

Collision free task planning for dual-arm robot which perform many subtasks in a common work space can be achieved in two steps : path planning and trajectory planning. Path planning finds the order of tasks for each robot to minimize path lengths as well as to avoid collision with static obstacles. A trajectory planning strategy is to let each robot move along its path as fast as possible and delay one robot at its initial position or reduce speed at the middle of its path to avoid collision with the other robot.

This paper presents a new approach to the design of cruise control system of a mobile robot with two drive wheel. The proposed control scheme uses a Gaussian function as a unit function in the fuzzy-neural network, and back propagation algorithm to train the fuzzy-neural network controller in the framework of the specialized learning architecture. It is proposed a learning controller consisting of two neural network-fuzzy based on independent reasoning and a connection net with fixed weights to simply the neural networks-fuzzy. The performance of the proposed controller is shown by performing the computer simulation for trajectory tracking of the speed and azimuth of a mobile robot driven by two independent wheels.

This paper presents a new approach to the design of neural control system using digital signal processors in order to improve the precision and robustness. Robotic manipulators have become increasingly important in the field of flexible automation. High speed and high-precision trajectory tracking are indispensable capabilities for their versatile application. The need to meet demanding control requirement in increasingly complex dynamical control systems under significant uncertainties, leads toward design of intelligent manipulation robots. The TMS320C31 is used in implementing real time neural control to provide an enhanced motion control for robotic manipulators. In this control scheme, the networks introduced are neural nets with dynamic neurons, whose dynamics are distributed over all the network nodes. The nets are trained by the distributed dynamic back propagation algorithm. The proposed neural network control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for implementation of real-time control. Performance of the neural controller is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for a SCARA robot.

The needs for precision machining of micro to milli parts have been increased as the industry require high quality products, especially for the micro-machining of IT products. The ultra-precision machining system is essential for the micro machining of fine structures, which insures machining accuracy, low systematic and random error and repeatability. In this study, we developed micro machining system, which is equipped with air bearing stage for ultra precision machining and also we present the results of V-grooving experiments, conducted by the developed system, to verify the performance of system. The results show that the machined V-grooving had good accuracy with repeatable stability.

This research covers the development of new technique for composite injection molding of high stiffness Sabot. An analysis of polymer resin is performed by means of making test specimen mold and doing test with accordance of ASTM test guidelines. Structural analysis and simulation of injection molding process are carried out in order not only to estimate but also to predict the characteristics of molding stresses what both product and structure of mold may have. For structural analysis software, Moldflow and LS-dyna are used and universal test machine is utilized for evaluating performance of sabot. Cases of adopting this material to sabot are not announced yet in domestic academic world. In addition to that, materials for polymer-metal mixed injection molding are imported on the whole due to deficient level of domestic technology. Therefore, this new developed injection molding technique using PEI material can make it available to ensure the technology of making mold, injection and design. Finally, this technique may be applicable to another sabot having different radius of warheads from now on.

Recently, the trends of industrial products grow more miniaturization, variety and mass production. Micro drilling which take high precision in cutting work is requested more micro hole and high speed working. Especially, Micro deep hole drilling is becoming more important in a wide spectrum of precision production industries, ranging from the production of automotive fuel injection nozzle, watch and camera parts, medical needles, and thick multi-layered Printed Circuit Boards(PCB) that are demanded for very high density electric circuitry. This paper shows the tool monitoring results of micro drill with tool dynamometer. And additionally, microscope with built-in monitor inspection show the relationship between burr in workpiece and chip form of micro drill machining.

Titanium alloy conducted in this experimental study has superior corrosive resistant and is mainly used in aerospace, automotive and petro-chemical industries. It is also treated with important materials of domestic goods due to improvement of the standard of living. In this study specimens were processed in the wire EDM after annealing, solution treatment and aging. Results were obtained through repeated experments of main rough process and finish process with the change of process parameters. Processing characteristics such as surface hardness, surfaces roughness, shape of processed surface and components were measured. The results confirmed that the above mentioned elements were improved in accordance with the number of process. Therefore, the optimal wire EDM condition in accord with processing characteristics is proposed in this experiment.

Resently, reduction of industrial products in size and weight has increased by the application of micro-drill for gadgets of high precision and gave rise to a great interest in a micro-drilling. Due to the lack of tool stiffness and the chip Packing, micro-drilling requires not only the robust tool structure which has not affected by the vibration, but also the effective drilling methods designed to prevent tool fracture from cutting troubles. Firstly, this paper presents a new manufacturing process of micro-drill for improving the Product rate and an optimum shape of micro-drill for lengthening the tool life, and secondly between tool life and drilling torque acquired in the inprocess monitoring system.

The old technique of sandblasting which has been used for decoration of glass surface has recently been developed into a powder blasting technique for various materials, capable of producing micro structures larger than 100 m. This paper describes the performance of powder blasting technique in micro-line grooving of glass and the effect of the number of nozzle scanning on the depth and width of line groove. Experimental results showed that increasing the no. of nozzle scanning resulted in the increase of depth and width in grooves. Increase of width which may cause several problems in the precision machining results from wear of mask film.

The balance of high speed spindle system with high precision rotation like grinding machine is very important. Traditionally, we use trial and error method to balance the spindle. It takes much time. So we are developing the automatic balancing equipment being used in the grinding machine. The balancing head we develop is wireless. It will be used high-speed grinding machine. We use influence coefficient method to control the automatic balancer. Experiments are based on automatic and manual balancing. We perform test of the vibration filter. It helps to remove noise. The filter and experiments with automatic balancing controller show that automatic balancing control can be successfully achieved with the quick response and good stability characteristics.

Ultra-abrasives such as diamond and CBN have used to maintain accuracy and form deviation for superalloy etc. This study contains the dry cylindrical grinding of metals with Vitrified-bond CBN wheel and Resinoid-bond CBN wheel. For various condition of grinding speed, workpiece speed, grinding depth and feed speed of table, the grinding resistance, the surface roughness, and material removal are measured and discussed.

In the present study,
$Si_3N_4-SiC$ ceramic composites that contained up to 20 wt% of dispersed SiC particles were fabricated via hot-pressing with an oxynitride glass. The microstructure, the mechanical properties, and the cutting performance of resulting ceramic composites were investigated. By fixing the composition as$Si_3N_4-20$ wt% SiC, the effect of sintering time on the microstructure, the mechanical properties, and the cutting performance were also investigated. For machining of gray cast i개n, the tool life increases with increasing the amount of SiC content in the composites; The tool life also increased with increasing the sintering time. The tool life of the home-made cutting tools was very close to that of commercial$Si_3N_4$ cutting tool. The superior cutting performance of$Si_3N_4-SiC$ ceramic cutting tools suggests the possibility to be a new ceramic tool material. -
In the process of optical parts machining, polishing has been applied. Traditional polishing process is suitable for spherical optical parts. But it is very difficult to apply traditional process for aspheric optical parts. Nowadays, as growing needs for aspherical optic parts, many researches have been conducted. In this study, we developed computer controlled polishing system which consists of three major parts of active pressure control for correcting polishing process, mechanical on-machine measurement for rough polishing, and optical on-machine measurement for finish polishing, respectively. In this paper, a systematic stretegy for correcting polishing process, pressure control scheme for polishing tool, and on-machine measurement methods for automated and precise polishing are suggested. The information about developed machine is also included.

The surface roughness is one of the important parameters to evaluate the quality of products. Its level must be limited to a certain range in the precision components. This paper deals with grinding characteristics of workpieces by the wear amount of wheels in the surface grinding process. The surface roughness was measured according to the feedrate and the depth of cut with respect to the various workpieces. In addition, the wear amount of wheels according to the number of grinding pieces was obtained.

In this study an experimental investigation was conducted to find the grinding characteristics of ceramics, as compared to STDll and SUS304 materials. The grinding force and the microscopic observation of the workpieces were obtained in surface grinding. It has been found that the grinding force of ceramics is relatively low as compared to that of steels and that CBN wheel has an excellent performance.

In this paper, We have studied on the critical vibration limits of spindle unit for the high speed ball pen tip processing machine. The vibration of bearing can be measured by FFT, and the influence of vibration amplitude due to the Unbalance, bearing deflect, bite and timing belts tension are analyzed. So, the critical vibration limits of spindle is determined by the X, Z directional vibration of spindle Unit.

The technique of high speed machining is widely studied in machining field. Because the high efficiency and accuracy in machining can be obtained in high speed machining. Unfortunately the development of tool for high speed machining is not close behind that of machining tool. So in this study, we made 4 types flat end mill for obtaining data according to tool shape. Especially, we concentrated in helix angle and number of cutting edge. First we confirmed cutting condition by several experiments and measuring cutting force, tool life, tool wear and chip shape according to cutting length. In results, we acquired the fact that 45 degree helix angle and six cutting edge tool is suitable for high speed machining.

In this study, residual stress was investigated to evaluate damaged layer in high speed machining through simulation. In machining steel(STDll), residual stress remaining in machined surface was mainly appeared as compressive stress. The scale of this damaged layer more depends on feed per tooth and radial depth than spindle speed. Damaged layer was measured by optical microscope and hardness method. The micro-structure of damaged layer was a martensite because of cutting force and cutting temperature. Thickness of damaged layer is increased with incresing of feed per tooth and radial depth.

CNC technology is used in various industrial fields, whose best example is the product part. The technology has been applied to machine tools such as automatic lathes and machining centers, etc. Recently, CNC technology has been applied not only to industrial parts but also to consumer part such as dental prosthesis and 3D face carving machine. In this paper, we introduce the application of the CNC technology to the 3D face carving machine, which the public has been not familiar with yet. It enables general users to control the machine and get the product with ease. We also mention examples of the application of the technology to the related fields and the way open CNC technology is used in controlling the calving machine.

This study is the selection of optimum forming condition for RP system using ADS. Program using ADS reduces the required time for feedback between design and manufacturing of workpiece. When we produce rapid prototype using RP system, we investigate the relationship between Facetres in system variable number of AutoCAD and circularity of rapid prototype, and we will find optimum forming condition in RP system.

The tool wear that is developed by long-term machining in mold manufacturing with machining center makes a severe influence to the accuracy and the surface roughness. In this reason, tool-wear supervising system which has guaranteed high accuracy and high speed is needed to improve the measurement quality. Touching probe and touch sensor are widely used to measure the tool profile at on-machine measurement. In this paper, using the newly developed electric touch point measuring system, the Automatic Tool Compensation System is developed to correct the error of tool diameter resulted from the wear, and the operating method of this system is also provided.

This paper presents a methodology of machining error compensation by using Artificial Neural Network(ANN) model based on the inspection database of On-Machine-Measurement(OMM) system. First, the geometric errors of the machining center and the probing errors are significantly reduced through compensation processes. Then, we acquire machining error distributions from a specimen workpiece. In order to efficiently analyze the machining errors, we define two characteristic machining error parameters. These can be modeled by using an ANN model, which allows us to determine the machining errors in the domain of considered cutting conditions. Based on this ANN model, we try to correct the tool path in order to effectively reduce the errors by using an iterative algorithm. The iterative algorithm allows us to integrate changes of the cutting conditions according to the corrected tool path. Experimentation is carried out in order to validate the approaches proposed in this paper.

This paper is to model a 30-shape product applying mathematically the data acquired from a 3D scanner and using an Automatic Design Program. The research studied in th reverse engineering up to now has been developed continuously and surprisingly. However, forming 3D-shape solid models in CAE and CAM, based on the research, the study leaves much to be desired. Especially, analyses and studies reverse-designing automatically using measured data after manufacturing. Consequently, we are going to acquire geometric data using an 3D scanner in this study with which we will open a new field of reverse engineering by a program which can design a 3D-shape solid model in a CAD-based program automatically.

In CNC machining, a 3D(3-dimension) linear segment and a 2D(2-dimension) circular arc are general forms given by CAD/CAM system. Generally, the 2D circular arc machining is processed using dividing into some linear segments. A 3D circular arc also don't exist in the standard form of NC data. This paper present a algorithm and method for real-time machining of a circular arc(not only the 2D one, but also the 3D one). The 3D circular arc machining is based on the 2D circular arc machining. It only needs making a new coordinate system, converting given 3D points(a start point, a end point, and a center point of a 3D circular arc) into points of the new coordinate system, and processing a inverse transformation about a interpolated point. The proposed algorithm was implemented and simulated on PC system. It was confirmed to give a gcod result.

In this paper, a new parametric curve interpolator is proposed based on a 3D(3-dimensional) NURBS curve. A free curve is generally divided into small linear segments or circular arcs in CNC machining. The method has caused to a command error, the limitation of machining speed, and the irregular machining surface. The proposed real-time 3D NURBS interpolator continuously generates a linear segment within the range of allowable acceleration/deceleration in the motion controller. Therefore, the algorithm calculates the curvature and the remained distance of a command curve for the smoothing machining. It is expected to attaining high speed and high precision machining in CNC Machine Tool.

High speed linear motor feed system has been simulated using neural network technique. Due to the limited resources, control gain tuning has been the most troublesome part in controller design. Regardless of the system structure, conventional control gain could be adjusted minimizing the resulting error using the proposed method. Slight performance deterioration was observed at the small value of training epoch.

The term High Speed Machining has been used for many years to describe end milling with small diameter tools at high rotational speeds, typically 10,000 - 100,000 rpm. The process was applied in the aerospace industry for the machining of light alloys, notably aluminium. In recent year, however, the mold and die industry has begun to use the technology for the production of components, including those manufactured from hardened tool steels. With increasing cutting speed used in modern machining operation, the thermal aspects of cutting become more and more important. It not only directly influences in rate of tool wear, but also will affect machining precision recognized as thermal expansion and the roughness of the surface finish. Hence, one needs to accurately evaluate the rate of cutting heat generation and temperature distributions on the machining surface. To overcome the heat generation, we used to cutting fluid. Cutting fluid play a roles in metal cutting process. Mechanically coupled effectiveness of cutting fluids affect to friction coefficient at tool-work-piece interface and cutting temperature and chip control, surface finish, tool wear and form accuracy. Through this study, we examined the behavior of heat generation in high-speed machining and the cooling performance of various cooling methods.

This paper has been presented the dynamic effect by the journal speed, eccentricity and source positions in order to overcome the defects of air bearing such as low stiffness and damping coefficient. Choosing two row sources position of air bearing is different from previous investigations in the side of pressure distribution of air film by the wedge effects. An experimental study was performed to compare theoretical analysis. The dynamic stiffness was measured in actual cutting. It helps predicting of air spindle s characteristic in machining of die more precisely. The results of investigated characteristics was applied to air spindle for high speed milling.

In this study, torsional and lateral vibrations of a gear box transmission system were analyzed theoretically using some mathematical models and examined to determine the causes of its excessive vibrations. As the results, it was found there exist possibility of resonance between gear mesh frequencies and lateral vibration mode of the transmission shaft during the third shifting mode operation. In order to avoid this resonance, we proposed changing the arrangement of gears on the transmission shaft. The measured vibration levels of the improved gear box were dramatically reduced. These results may be helpful to design a machine tool gear box with low noise and vibration.

This paper presents the thermal characteristics analysis of a high-speed HMC spindle system with angular contact ball bearings, built-in motor, oil-jet lubrication method, oil jacket cooling method, and so on. The spindle system is composed of the main spindle and sub-spindle which are mechanically connected by a flexible coupling. The spindles are supported by two front and rear bearings, and the built-in motor is located between the front and rear bearings of the sub-spindle. The thermal analysis model of spindle system is constructed by the finite element method, and the thermal characteristics in the design stage are estimated based on temperature distribution and heat flow under the various testing conditions related to material of bearing ball, spindle speed and coolant temperature.

In most of the existing mechanistic models, the cutting process simulation is often restricted to a single path machining operation under a fixed cutting condition. Complex cutting processes such as die or mold manufacturing, however, are performed under two- or three-dimensional multiple tool paths. Since the tool paths in CNC machining are composed of line and arc segments, transient cuts are frequently occured due to the multiple paths. Even in steady cuts, the width of cut is varied with each segment. In this regard, this paper deals with the development of process simulation system for transient cuts, where continuously changing cutting configuration is computed, and then the cutting forces are predicted.

One of the major limitations of productivity and quality in metal cutting is the machining accuracy of machine tools. The machining accuracy is affected by geometric and thermal errors of the machine tools. In this study, the compensation device is manufactured in order to compensate thermal error of machine tools under the real-time. This paper models of the thermal errors for error analysis and develops on-the-machine measurement system by which the volumetric error are measured and compensated. The thermal error is modeled by means of angularity errors of a column and thermal drift error of the spindle unit which are measured by the touch probe unit with a star type styluses, a designed spherical ball artifact, and five gap sensors. In order to compensate thermal characteristics under several operating conditions, experiments performed with five gap sensors and manufactured compensation device on the horizontal machining center.
