  • Russian anarchist thinker P. A. Kropotkin had a significant impact on the school of thought, the literary field and the anarchist movement in East Asia in the early 20th century. This paper examines the history of the translation of Kropotkin in terms of the routes and paths of translation in colonial Korea in comparison with those in Japan and China. It is a known fact that the acceptance of Kropotkin in colonial Korea is owed to pioneering translation works in Japan, but it appears that there have been various transformations and magnetizations in the process of translating the texts into the Korean language. Despite a disturbing censorship, the works of Kropotkin, such as "I appeal to the youth ("Aux Jeunes Gens" in French)", were imported, translated and distributed by various routes throughout the 1920s and there were various versions of translated Korean texts. At this point, it is noteworthy that there are works which were translated from Chinese texts about Kropotkin, such as the works of Yu Seo (柳絮), and it can be said that there is a relationship between Korean translations and Chinese original texts. Since the 1930s, the phenomenon of the appropriation of Kropotkin as a litterateur and critic rather than an anarchist thinker is particularly apparent, and this allows us to understand that Kropotkin became a major pathway to interpret Russian literature in East Asia. In colonial Korea, translations of Kropotkin were generally via Japan and China, but the process of translation also showed the struggle to accept and adapt 'the foreign text' into the Korean language.

  • This research paper has examined the question of the year of the publication of the wood block print, Mukujeonggwang Dae Darani Gyeong(Pure light Dharani Sutra). Published in Korea sometime before 751, it is known to be the oldest existing document printed with wood blocks in the world. Recently, a Chinese scholar claimed that this sutra was translated into Chinese in 701 and printed in Reoyang, China, in 702. These claims have lead to international symposiums and research papers on the Mukujeonggwang Dae Darani Gyeong. However, although diverse opinions and research were presented by various scholars, they all seem to be far fetched and do not answer the essential question of the sutra. The evidence in historic records shows that the translation into Chinese was done in 704 and not in 701. After it was translated into Chinese, it came to Korea and was printed with wood blocks. When Sokkatap was built in 751, a copy was placed in the pagoda. Moreover, the inscription on the sarira casket states that the construction of the pagoda was based on the theory of Jotapsasang contained in the sutra. Thus this proves that Mukujeonggwang Dae Darani Gyeong had to have been printed before 751.

  • This study was conducted to search the origin of Nong Jung Shin Pyun ( 農政新編 ), a book of agricultural manual. This book was edited by An Jong-Soo who translated the agricultural manual of Japan and China, both were writted in Japanese. This book might be used not only as text book for agricultural workshop but as reference book for peasants.

  • This survey is to know the present situation and effective alternatives of mathematics gifted education program for the 5-8 grade students in Korea. This is aiming at finding effective ideas useful to the definition of the gifted, the development of the methods and tools for identification, the proper organization of program and urgent issues. The number of collected questionnaire available by mailing is 92; 21 specialists, 24 experienced teachers and 47 scholars who are concerned with the education for the gifted. Not translated original Korean-Questionnaire is in the appendix.

  • We construct some infinite series of free and nearly free curves using pencils of conics with a base locus of cardinality at most two. These curves have an interesting topology, e.g. a high degree Alexander polynomial that can be explicitly determined, a Milnor fiber homotopy equivalent to a bouquet of circles, or an irreducible translated component in the characteristic variety of their complement. Monodromy eigenspaces in the first cohomology group of the corresponding Milnor fibers are also described in terms of explicit differential forms.

  • We introduce a high level synthesis methodlogoy for automatic synthesis of asynchronous circuits form a language based on CSP. The input language is a high level concurrent algorithmic specification that can model complex concurrent control flow, logical and arithmetic computation and communications between them. This specification is translated into petri net which has actions. These actions are refined to synthesize the controllers and to allocate the data resources. We use the automatic synthesis through signal transition graphs (STGs) that allows to take advantage of logic synthsis methods to optimize the circuit.

  • This paper represents a fast computational algorithm for the discrete sine transform defined by Kekre and Solanki. Techniques are developed to factor the discrete sine trans form matrix into M=log2 2N matrices, where the number(N) of sampled data points is a power of two. Each factorial matrix contains not more than two non-zero real elem tints in any row or column. As a result of this method, the exact a배orithm for the fast discrete sine transform is accomplished. The algorithm is illustiated by a signal flow graph, which may be readily translated to hardware or software implementation.
