Schedule management of construction work is important in order to complete construction projects within a given period of time. As activities increase and relations become more complex, schedule management software becomes increasingly necessary. To address this, attempts are being made to incorporate web-based ICT (information and communications technology) in construction project management. This research proposed a method to manage construction schedules via web pages using Flash. The interactive and graphic property of Flash enables a field manager to manage schedules easily and efficiently. A prototype was implemented using Flash and Action Script, and it was applied to a sample network in a web page.
In this research, schedule optimization is defined as balancing the number of workers while keeping the demand and needs of the project resources, creating the perfect schedule for each activity. Therefore, when one optimizes a schedule, multiple potentials of schedule changes are assessed to get an instant view of changes that avoid any over and under staffing while maximizing productivity levels for the available labor cost. Optimizing the number of workers in the scheduling process is not a simple task since it usually involves many different factors to be considered such as the development of quantity take-offs, cost estimating, scheduling, direct/indirect costs, and borrowing costs in cash flow while each factor affecting the others simultaneously. That is why the optimization process usually requires complex computational simulations/modeling. This research attempts to find an optimal selection of daily maximum workers in a project while considering the impacts of other factors at the same time through OPEN BIM based multiple computer simulations in resource leveling. This paper integrates several different processes such as quantity take-offs, cost estimating, and scheduling processes through computer aided simulations and prediction in generating/comparing different outcomes of each process. To achieve interoperability among different simulation processes, this research utilized data exchanges supported by building SMART-IFC effort in automating the data extraction and retrieval. Numerous computer simulations were run, which included necessary aspects of construction scheduling, to produce sufficient alternatives for a given project.

Points of interest (POIs) are widely used in tourism recommendations and to provide information about areas of interest. Currently, situation judgement using POI and GPS data is mainly rule-based. However, this approach has the limitation that inferences can only be made using predefined POI information. In this study, we propose an algorithm that uses POI data, GPS data, and schedule information to calculate the current speed, location, schedule matching, movement trajectory, and POI coverage, and uses machine learning to determine whether to stay or go. Based on the input data, the clustered information is labelled by k-means algorithm as unsupervised learning. This result is trained as the input vector of the SVM model to calculate the probability of moving and staying. Therefore, in this study, we implemented an algorithm that can adjust the schedule using the travel schedule, POI data, and GPS information. The results show that the algorithm does not rely on predefined information, but can make judgements using GPS data and POI data in real time, which is more flexible and reliable than traditional rule-based approaches. Therefore, this study can optimize tourism scheduling. Therefore, the stay detection algorithm using GPS movement trajectories and POIs developed in this study provides important information for tourism schedule planning and is expected to provide much value for tourism services.

This paper presents a system called a Cash-flow based Construction Schedule Optimization system(CfSO). The existing CPM effectively handles schedule and cost management. However, funding strategy should be considered to obtain maximum profit and to progress a project favorably. One of measures is to coordinate the contract terms between owner and subcontractors (or suppliers). Contractor may decrease the interest cost attributed to project financing by adjusting the timing of cash-inflows and cash-outflows. It is an excellent method maximizing profits. This paper presents a method to estimate the amount of a cash-flow occurred periodically by integrating the terms of contract into scheduling. The proposed method is implemented as a system prototype in Microsoft Excel. This system provides a user an automated tool that identifies an optimal schedule that secures maximum profit by adjusting start and finish times of non-critical activities' free-floats without affecting on the project completion time. This system supports a project manager to establish an optimum project schedule and identifies profitable contractual conditions against to a construction owner.

This paper considers a single machine nonpreemptive scheduling problem with a given common due date. In the problem, the optimal job sequence is sought to minimize the sum of earliness/tardiness and flow time measures in the situation where all jobs are available at time zero, and weights per unit length of earliness/tardiness and flow time are V and W, respectively. Some dominant solution properties are characterized to deriva both an optimal starting time for an arbitrary sequence and sequence improvement rules. The optimal schedule is found to the case W .geq. V/. By the way, it is difficult to find the optimal schedule for the case W < V. Therefore, the derived properties are put on together to construct a heuristic solution algorithm for the case W < V, and its effectiveness is rated at the mean relative error of about 3% on randomly generated numerical problems.

In large station with high density traffic, trains can be hardly controlled by CTC but by station dispatcher because CTC has difficulties in monitoring all states of affairs happening within each station such as departures, arrivals of many trains from different lines and shunting of trains to move between yards and platforms, etc. Therefore the station's dispatcher has to make quick decision about how to reschedule the times and routes for all the trains scheduled within a specific time window. And such decision becomes harder when an unexpected delay occurs because a delay occurring in a train propagates other trains as time goes on. Generally, it is called the conflict detection and resolution to adjust beforehand the distorted schedule due to a delay to original schedule. Our research is different from the state of the arts in that ours determines simultaneously the routes and the times of arrival and departure of trains, although others do only the arrival and departure time of the trains without considering the alternative routes and shunting of the station. This study suggests a mathematical approach for how to detect in advance and resolve efficiently the conflicts occurring within a station and it will be shown how to reduce delay using our approach by means of analysing the schedule of ChyungRyangRi station.
A relationship between drying resistance and moisture content was found for 24, 27 and 30mm thick boards, and 45, 51 and 57mm thick dimensions of Japanese larch. Dahurian larch and radiata pine in order to modify the kiln schedule by using time schedules. The amount of drying resistance for Dahurian larch lumber was the highest, and radiata pine lumber was the lowest, on the basis of the same moisture content range. Drying resistance increased curvilinearly as moisture content decreased, and was higher for thicker lumber than for thinner lumber, at a given moisture content. Combined drying resistance for the three board thicknesses and the three dimension thicknesses showed a comparatively strong for radiata pine and a Japanese larch, while a weak correlation for Dahurian larch as a function of two independent variables, thickness and moisture content of lumber, respectively.

Almost 40 years have been passed since the CPM was introduced to the construction industry in Korea. However most of construction projects in Korea do not prepare the CPM schedule neither operate it after established manually, as well as still depend on the Bar-chart schedule only. One of these reasons is because the CPM schedule does not reflect the site works realistically, it makes so difficult to recognize the actual progress clearly in visual format, and it is impossible to integrate and manage the time and cost oriented work progresses effectively. This paper proposes new concept of progress management that is able to integrate and manage the time oriented schedule progress and earned value oriented cost progress while maintaining the merits of CPM although the CPM schedule summarized automatically within a schedule hierarchy by the BDM that is a new CPM technique. We expect that this concept could make the applications of CPM technique to the domestic construction industry popular and help the advancement of the construction management in Korea as well.

Domestic leading construction companies has been establishing and performing TACT scheduling method, similar to linear scheduling model such as line of balance and repetitive schedule, and etc. in which repetitive construction works are involved like high-rise building. Linear scheduling model has been researched as a visual scheduling method presenting the work space and time information. Likewise scheduling constraints of CPM network such as finish-to-finish, start-to-start, finish-to-start, start-to-start, linear scheduling model also has the relationships constraints, namely boundary conditions, between activities. It is especially necessary to define the boundary conditions of the activities' relationships in order to apply the linear scheduling model to be compatible with the network schedule. Therefore, this research considers the boundary conditions between activities for establishing the linear scheduling model. This paper also applies the proposed boundary conditions to TACT schedule and then deduces the main considerations in order to establish and perform TACT schedule.
Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora S. et. Z.) and pitch pine(Pinus rigida Mill) $5{\times}10cm$ dimension lumber were dried in a kiln providing a cross-circulation velocity of 5 m/sec at dry-and wet-bulb temperatures of 116 and $71^{\circ}C$, followed by 3 hours at 91 and $85^{\circ}C$. Compared to dimension lumber dried lumber were as follows. 1. To dry to 10 percent moisture content, the high-temperatures schedule of Korean red pine and pitch pine lumber took less than one seventh the time required by the conventional kiln drying schedule. 2. High-temperature drying rate and conventional drying rate to 10 percent moisture content of Korean red pine lumber were 2.75 and 0.35%/hr, and those of pitch pine lumber were 3.38 and 0.46%/hr respectively. 3. Compared to lumber of both species on conventional schedule, moisture gradient of high-temperature lumber was greater. 4. Compared to lumber on conventional schedule, maximum surface checking of high-temperature lumber of both species was severer, and maximum end checking of high-temperature lumber of both species was similar to that of lumber on conventional schedule. 5. Compard to lumber on conventional schedule, Korean red pine lumber dried at high temperature showed more honeycombing, but pitch pine lumber dried at high-temperature showed significantly slighter honeycombing. 6. Compared to lumber on conventional schedule, the high-temperature lumber showed less warping lumber of both species. 7. Collapse and casehardening of Korean red pine and pitch pine lumber on both scheules were slight.
