Purpose: In an attempt to investigate the differences in the level of stress & mental health between extracurricular learning group and non-extracurricular learning group and level of stress and mental health by the extracurricular learning-related characteristics, this study was carried out in upper grade elementary students. Method: The subjects were 241 students living in 4 small towns in 4th, 5th and 6th grade elementary students. The data were collected by using the questionnaires, and analyzed by SPSS/WIN 12.0 program. Results: First, 64.7% of subjects were receiving extra-curricular learning, and extracurricular learning contents were the main curriculum and foreign language classes in many cases. Second, there were no differences in the level of stress and mental health between extracurricular learning group and non-extracurricular learning group, but also in the area of stress as physical, mental, emotional and behavioral stress. Third, extra-curricular learning satisfaction and learning effects are the major factor affecting mental and emotional stress and mental health. In other words, the group with high satisfaction and effectiveness by extra-curricular learning was less mentally and emotionally stressed and better for mental health than low group. Also, days per week for extracurricular learning affected physical stress and intention to continue extracurricular learning affected mental stress. Fourth, factors affecting whether the intention to continue extracurricular learning were the sex, decision-makers about whether they receive extracurricular learning, extracurricular learning satisfaction and duration of extracurricular learning. Conclusion: From the above results, The fact that the upper grade elementary school students receiving the extracurricular learning did not affect on the stress and mental health. In case of extracurricular group, the effectiveness and satisfaction about extra-curricular learning were major factors affecting mental and emotional stress as well as mental health.

This study attempted to analyze the contents of Practical Arts(Technology Home Economics)Textbooks written by the 7th national curriculum in a gender equity education. The objective of this study was to suggest some improvements which should be solved in terms of gender equity in Practical Arts, Technology and Home Economics education through analyzing their teaching and learning contents. Quantitative analysis were carried out for the objective of this study, Practical Arts(Technology Home Economics)Textbooks were divided into Technology and Home Economics fields. The pictures and illustration were analyzed in terms of sexual discrimination considering the social status and role. The analysis results were as follows. First, there were few cases of sexual discrimination in the texts. On the other hand, there were some cases of sexual discrimination in the pictures and illustration. Considering the results of some studies carried out in the 6th national curriculum, many problems raised in a gender equity education standpoint in the studies were solved. However, there were some cases of sexual discrimination which should be improved in the textbooks written by the 7th national curriculum. Second, there were few cases of sexual discrimination in Practical Arts textbooks. On the contrary many problems in terms of gender equity education were found in the textbooks of Technology and Home Economics. This result may be caused by the characteristics of Technology and Home Economics. The traditional viewpoint toward Technology and Home economics Textbook needs to be changed. In other words, their textbooks have to include practical contents for the positive sense of value and right sexual roles in terms of gender equity education. The contents of Practical Arts(Technology Home economics)Textbooks should be designed considering the articulation among the subjects and grades especially in terms of gender equity education.
The purpose of this study was to analyze about STS contents in the next generation science textbook for 10th grade according to curriculum revision 2007 and high school science textbooks focused on the Earth Science which were published according to the 7th curriculum. The contents of STS were analyzed by the STS topics of Yager(1989), Piel's standard(1981), and student activities by SATIS. The results of this study are the same as follows: 'The next generation science textbook' was shown that 20.9% is STS material amount in average by Yager's standard. 'High school science textbooks' were shown that 11.3% is STS material amount in average. Based on the STS topics by Yager's standard, most of STS content is focused on 'Relativity with local community', 'Application of science' and 'Cooperative work on real problems'. However, there is rare contents such as 'Multiple dimensions of science', 'Practice with decision-making strategies' and 'Evaluation concerned for getting and using information' in the next generation science textbook. In high school science textbooks were shown that 'Applicability of science' is the highest and 'Relativity with local community' is the next high contents. Based on the STS topics by Piel's standard, most of STS contents are focused on 'Environmental quality', 'Space research' and 'National defence' in the next generation science textbook. But high school science textbooks are focused on 'Natural resources' and 'Technology development'. The activities were analyzed by SATIS student activities. The major categories of activities included in the next generation science textbook were 'Investigation', 'Simulation' and 'Data analysis'. But, there were rare activities like 'Roleplaying', 'Research design' and 'Simulation' in high school science textbooks.
The purpose of this study is to affirm what influences the lessons applied by reorganizing the ratio-graph unit of level 6-A on the basis on Realistic Mathematics Education(RME) give on mathematical scholastic achievements and mathematical preferences.In order to achieve the purpose of this study, the experimental study was exerted by making two classes of 6 grades in J elementary school located in Gumi city, Gyeongbuk province as subjects. In this study, test of degree of the mathematics learning ability of student, multiple-choice test and descriptive test of the learning dispositions of student were exerted and the results were t-test officially. The results and the conclusions of this study were as follows: First, the results acquired by officially t-test the levels of the mathematics learning ability of student of the group taught by lessons according to the teaching materials reorganized on the basis of RME and the group taught by lessons according to the 7th curriculum show a meaningful difference(p=.007). This means that the lessons according to the teaching materials reorganized on the basis of RME showed meaningful influences on the improvement of degree of the mathematics learning ability of student. Second, the results acquired by officially t-test the learning dispositions of student multiple-choice test of the group taught by lessons according to the teaching materials reorganized on the basis of RME and the group taught by lessons according to the 7th curriculum show a meaningful difference. Especially in the factors of 'mathematical will'(p=.017) and 'mathematical value'(p=.029) were meaningful differences. Also in the descriptive test of the learning dispositions of student, the experimental class showed that it had the potential possibility to have more positive attitudes meaningfully in comparison with the compared class. This means that the lessons according to the teaching materials reorganized on the basis of RME showed meaningful influences on the learning dispositions of student.
In order to suggest desirable management of college mathematics for freshmen in middle level engineering college, we analyse the change of mathematics recognition between 2011 year and 2015 year freshmen who took college scholastic ability test which are based on the national mathematics curriculum 7th and 7th revision, respectively. In A university, 2011 year and 2015 year engineering freshmen were taken basic mathematical ability test and given the survey for the recognition of mathematics and college mathematics. Research results are as follows: First of all, middle level engineering freshmen were poor at basic mathematical ability. The change of mathematics recognition appeared in the level of mathematics ability and the effort for college mathematics class. Moreover middle level engineering freshmen recognize college mathematics as a basic subject for engineering and hope teacher-directed learning in college mathematics class. For the success of college mathematics in engineering college, this study suggests basic mathematical ability test and the survey for the recognition of mathematics and college mathematics. We also suggest that college mathematics class must be focused on basic mathematical ability improvement and self-directed learning.
The study investigated the linguistic characteristics of middle school students' writing on the themes of earth science through analysis of its genre and register. Data for analysis included $7^{th}$ grade and $9^{th}$ grade students' writings about 'global warming' and 'classification of rocks'. The results of this study include: First, many students were not accustomed to writing in genre, especially exposition genre. Second, in terms of ideational meaning, the material verbs representing action or doing were more dominant than relational verbs that are related to the attribute or definition of things, and additional logical relations were predominant. Third, regarding interpersonal meaning, agents, emotions, subjective opinions appeared in the writings and students did not express their ideas conclusively and revealed feelings of doubt and uncertainty about their knowledge. Fourth, as for textual meaning, most students listed fragments of information using additional conjunctions in simple structures and were not accustomed to writing texts with organizing structures, logical patterns, cohesion, and coherence. From these results, we argued that the scientific writings should be emphasized in science learning that aims to foster scientific literacy. In addition, we discussed the necessity of improving science teachers' perceptions on scientific writing as well as setting up a specific plan in the national curriculum.

The purpose of this study was to develop a program to cultivate mathematical creativity based on open-ended problem and to investigate its effect. The major features of this innovative program are (a) breaking up fixations, (b) multiple answers, (c) various strategies, (d) problem posing, (e) exploring strategies, (f) selecting and estimating, (g) active exploration through open-ended problems. 20 units for 7th grade mathematics were developed. This study hypothesizes that experimental students may develop more divergent thinking abilities than their traditional counterparts. The participants were 7th grade students attending middle schools in Seoul. Instruments were pre and post tests to measure mainly divergent thinking skills through open-ended problems. The results indicated that the experimental students achieved better than the comparison students on overall and each component of fluency, flexibility, and originality of divergent thinking skills, when deleting the effect of covariance of the pretest. The developed program can be a useful resource for teachers to use in enhancing their students' creative thinking skills. Further this open-ended approach can be served as a model to implement in classes. This study suggests that further investigations are needed in order to examine effects on affective domains such as motivation and task perseverance which are also considered as important factors of creativity.
The purpose of this study was to analyze effects of the mother's child-rearing patterns on children's academic achievement with respects to ‘understanding of family and work’ area in Practical Arts Education related to the 7th revision on the Curriculum of the Elementary School. The questionnaire was used for the survey. The subjects were 200 mother-child (total of 400) randomly chosen from 4 elementary schools in Seoul. Data were analyzed by frequencies, percentages, averages, standard deviations, Pearson's correlation coefficients, t-tests and one-way ANOVA's using the SPSS/PC+ program. The results of this study were summarized as follows : The correlation between income in their home and their children's academic achievement did not analyze because of the omitting record in their questionnaire. The relations between the patterns of mother's child-rearing and children's academic achievement by children's sex and by grade were examined. But in this study, these relations scarcely have significant differences between the children's academic achievement and their mothers' child-rearing pattern except between being significant reject-sanctions type of mothers' child-rearing and the children's academic achievement. However, the child-rearing patterns of mothers which children and their mothers think were similar, then the high correlations were found between their patterns.
The purpose of this study is to review, through case study, how the use of web materials has influence on the improvement of self-oriented Learning in mathematics of primary school. This is one of the ways to improve classroom lectures suggested in the 7th National Standard of Curriculum. To accomplish this, the following three studies were conducted. First, a questionnaire concerning the improvement of self-oriented Learning Skill through the use of the materials on the web was designed and analyzed. Second, the activities of the class using the web materials were recorded and the study activities of the children were observed. Third, the process of writing notes about their study using web materials was analyzed though interviews after teaching and learning. Through these studies, it has been shown how web materials contribute to the improvement of self-oriented Learning Skill.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the change of students' views on the relationship between science/technology and society during the high school 'Science' course implemented under the 7th science curriculum. Participants were 241 tenth graders in Seoul. An instrument consisted of ten items selected from the VOSTS (Views On Science-Technology-Society). The surveys were administered at the beginning and the end of the course. The results indicated that the high school 'Science' course, on the whole, could not make students have adequate understanding about the relationship between science/technology and society.
