  • The purpose of this study is to develop a textile knowledge checklist and to analyze university students' textile recognition. After analyzing reliability, difficulty, and discrimination of questions, we developed a standardized tool to measure textile knowledge. The tool has 72 checklist questions, which can be divided into 4 parts: basic property, comfort, management, and finishing. The level of university students' textile knowledge was 68.91 %. The level of basic property was 75.56%, comfort 70.83%, management 64.5% and finishing 64.74%. The recognition of management and finishing was lower than that of basic property and comfort. There existed a significant difference in the textile knowledge by their gender, major, and school year. To elaborate, females, clothing and textile major students, and juniors and seniors showed higher level of textile knowledge. It seemed that comfort was more professional item than management in textile knowledge.

Shopmasters' knowledge of apparel merchandise was analyzed on a factor basis. Four factors of apparel merchandise were fashion property, material property, function property and management property. The textile knowledge level of shopmasters was 72.44%. Considering each part of textile knowledge, basic property was 74.69%, comfort 72.17%, management 68.36% and finishing 77.33%. The level of recognition in finishing area was the highest and the level of recognition in management area was the lowest. There were significant differences in the textile knowledge by gender and working period. Female's textile knowledge level was higher. The longer the working period is, the higher the level of textile knowledge is. Shopmasters recognized the finishing area better than university students did. But both of the groups didn't recognize the management area well.

  • The study seeks to investigate the relationship between knowledge sharing and innovation in garment and textile enterprises. While previous research has found many factors influencing knowledge sharing, little research has been done about the influence of knowledge sharing on innovation in enterprises in developing countries like Vietnam. In particular, the textile industry plays an important role in export, but outsourcing is accounting for a high proportion of trade; it is necessary to increase innovation in order to increase the competitive advantage by internal capacity. The data is collected from a survey of 245 employees at 20 textile and garment enterprises in Vietnam to study the knowledge sharing influence on innovation. The methodology includes pilot study and quantitative method. The pilot study tests the questionnaire on the respondents. The quantitative method applies SEM analysis to measure the knowledge sharing influence on innovation. The results identify eight factors that positively impact knowledge sharing: rewarding, teamwork, management support, joy of knowledge sharing, communication, trust, commitment, and information technology. This study also shows that knowledge sharing affects innovation. The main findings are discussed for textile and garment enterprises to apply innovative capacity in the context of increasing global integration.

  • This study examined the effects of demographic characteristics (education, income level) on the relationships among knowledge of textile fibers, information searching behavior on textile fabrics, and information sources of textile materials in children's clothings. The subjects were 307 mothers with preschool children(4∼6years) in Seoul. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire and analyzed using T-test analysis of variance, corelations, and crosstabulation analysis. The results indicated that : (1) Educational levels of consumers had significant influences on knowledge of textile fibers, information searching behavior on textile fabric, and information sources of textile materials in children's clothings. (2) There were significant relationship between consumer's knowledge of textile fibers and information searching behavior on textile materials in children's clothings.

  • In this research, an expert system has been developed to select optimum well-matched fusible interlinings with a face fabric. First, a database of face fabrics and fusible interlinings has been constructed. And knowledge acquisition has been performed from the previous studies about the properties of fusible interlinings and fused composites as well as fusing prsocess quality control. Then, a rule-based knowledge-base has been constructed through knowledge classification. Finally, we have constructed an inference engine with the knowledge-base. The expert system enables us to easily select optimum fusible interlinings for a face fabric considering high quality fused composites and fashion trend.

  • This study analyzes how well-being lifestyle and functional textile knowledge effect the perception of high functional sports/leisure wear importance. A survey was conducted among male and female sports/leisure wear consumers aged 15 and over in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk area from May $12^{th}$ to June $2^{nd}$ 2009. A total of 288 responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and regression. As a result, 9 factors were determined as sub-elements of a well-being lifestyle. Knowledge levels for functional textiles were high in elastic, UV blocking, air permeable, and antibacterial properties. The perception of high functional sports/leisure wear importance was positively influenced by functional textile knowledge and two well-being lifestyle constructing factors ('self-confidence/affirmative thinking' and 'health/environment oriented eating habits').

Subjects were 291 mothers with preschool children. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire and analyzed using analysis of variance and crosstabulation analysis. The results indicated that; (1)preference of fiber was significantly related to the perceived importance of textile fiber properties concerning flame resistance, absorbency, and hand. (2)blended fiber preference group had more knowledge on textile fibers than the other groups. (3)preference of fiber was significantly related to the perceived differences of textile performance characteristics in comfort. (4)None of demographic variables influenced textile fiber preference. (5)No difference in price consideration was found between the textile fiber preference groups.

  • The purpose of this study was to inves-tigate the economic performance of the textile industry for the Korean traditional clothes. The content of this paper had two pars; The first part was for the macroeconomic aspects such as location production employments and the produc-tion facilities of the textile industries. The second part was for the microeconomic aspects such as business type branding method fabric type R&D efforts sourc-ing and the distributional channel The major results were as follows: 1.) Most textile firms for the korean traditional clothes were located in Gongju for man-made fibers and in Jinju for silk fabrics. 2) The size of the textile industry in terms of the number of business produc-tion amount the number of employee de-creased during 1994 and 1995 due to the decreasing demand. 3) Over the half of the textile firms produced raw fabric products while only 20% of them were involved in additional dyeing and /or printing finish which re-sulted in low value added production 4) The R&D effort of the textile indus-try for the Korean traditional clothes was very low due to the market uncertainty lack of technological knowledge and most of all small size of the firms 5) Most raw materials for the textile in -dustry were imported with high(25%) tariff rates resulting in price increase and thus low competitiveness in the market. 6) The textile producers sole about the 70% of their products to the wholesalers while selling the rest to the retailers di-rectly. This showed the dual structure of the distribution channel in the textile products. These results suggested some implica-tions for the firms the policy makers and the researchers. The firms should develop new and improved products to increase and create consumer demand by intensive R&D efforts. The government policy ma-kers should give financial supports the firms with R&D investment and legal help such as lowing tariff rate for the raw ma-terials. The researchers from the academy could help the textile industry with the advanced technological knowledge and up-date information for the consumer fashion demand.
