The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating and moderating effects of teacher-child relationships on children's social behavior and peer preference. The participants were 508 children and 28 head teachers of their classes. Teachers measured the children's social behavior and the teacher-child relationships. Peer preference was measured by peer nomination. The association between prosocial behavior and peer preference was partially mediated by teacher-child conflict. The association between withdrawal, aggression and peer preference was fully mediated by teacher-child conflict. The moderating effects of teacher-child conflict were found between prosocial behavior and peer preference. In addition, teacher-child conflict moderated the association between physical aggression and peer preference.
This study examines the mediation effect of teacher-child interactions in the process of the impact of teacher's teaching-efficacy on childhood education institutions and classroom environment on peer-play interactions. We used data from 970 children aged between 49 and 55 months and 970 homeroom teachers from the fifth Korean Child Panel (2012) of the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education. The model fitness was excellent after data were statistically analyzed with model of structure to testify the relationship and effect among teaching efficacy, classroom environment, teacher-child interactions, and peer-play interactions. First, the analysis also showed that the teacher's teaching efficacy did not influence peer-play interactions directly, but gave an indirect effect on the peer-play interactions with the mediation of the teacher-child interactions. Second, the classroom environment directly and indirectly influenced the peer-play interactions with the mediation of the teacher-child interactions. Third, the variable of teacher-child interactions was fully effective as a mediating variable in the process of the teaching efficacy and classroom environment influence on teacher-child interactions. Teaching efficacy and classroom environment influenced the peer-play interactions through the mediation of the teacher-child interactions. The significance of mediation effect of the teacher-child interactions was verified through a bootstrapping method.
This study examined the moderating role of teacher-child relationship on the relation between children's problem behavior and peer victimization. Participants were 198 children(97 boys, 101 girls; recruited from classes with 5-6 year olds) and their kindergarten teachers. The teachers completed the rating scales to measure the children's peer victimization, problem behavior and teacher-child relationship. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, correlations, and hierarchical multiple regressions. Boys and girls were analyzed separately. Results showed that children's problem behavior had positive relation to their peer victimization. Teacher-child relationship significantly related to children's peer victimization. Hierarchical regression analysis indicated that the interaction of boys' withdrawal behavior and teacher-child closeness predicted boy's peer victimization. Boys' withdrawal behavior, whose teachers demonstrated the lowest level of teacher-child closeness, associated significantly with their peer victimization. Boys' withdrawal and aggressive behavior had significant relation to their peer victimization, especially for the highest level of teacher-child conflictual relationship. Findings suggested the importance of teacher-child relationship in the context of intervention planning for peer victimization.
Objective: This study examined the relationships among teachers' empathy ability, children's peer competence and teacher-child relationships. Methods: 180 teachers and 360 children from 3 to 5 years old were included in the study. The research variables were measured by teachers' self-report through questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA, and three-step mediated regression analysis. Results: First, teachers' empathy ability and teacher-child relationship showed significant differences according to teacher variables (age, marital status, parental status). And children's peer competence was significantly different according to gender. Second, intimacy which was a subfactor of teacher-child relationships showed a perfect mediating role in the association between teachers' empathy ability and peer competence. Conclusion/Implications: These results suggest the importance of teacher-child's intimate relationships since it affects the child's peer competence significantly. In this study, it was found that, in order to help foster the teacher's empathic ability and teacher-child relationships which have positive effects on the child's desirable peer formation, continuous teacher education and diverse studies are needed.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the teacher-child relationship as it is self-conceived by teachers in regards to children's peer-competence and self-regulation and to also examine how the teacher-child relationship affects peer-competence and self-regulation. 17 teachers were surveyed using the Student-Teacher Relationship Scale, Peer-Competence Scale and Self-Regulation Scale in regard to approximately 270 children (aged 4-5 years old). Our results indicated that the pro-sociality, sociality, and leadership qualities of child peer-competence correlated positively with the friendliness of teacher-child relationships but correlated negatively in cases of conflicts within the teacher-child relationship. The factors of self-appraisal, self-determination and behavior inhibition of child self-regulation were found to be positively related with the friendliness of teacher-child relation but related negatively with presence of the conflict within the teacher-child relationship. It was also found that sociable and self-determinative children tended to be on more friendly terms with teachers.

This study examined the moderating and mediating effects of teacher-child conflict relationship among child's language ability, emotional regulation and peer victimization. The participants were 152 children(77 boys, 75 girls) and 14 preschool teachers. The teachers completed rating scales to measure the child's emotional regulation, peer victimization and teacher-child relationship. Child's language ability was assessed by researcher using PRES(Preschool Receptive-Expressive Language Scale). The collected data were analyzed using Pearson correlations and hierarchical multiple regressions. Results showed that peer victimization was related to child's language ability, emotional regulation and teacher-child relationship. Hierarchical aggression analysis indicated that the interaction of child's receptive language ability and teacher-child conflict relationship predicated peer victimization. Child's language ability, whose demonstrated a lower teacher-child conflict relationship, was significantly with peer victimization. In addition, the association between a child's emotional regulation and peer victimization was partially mediated by teacher-child conflict relationship.
This study investigated the mediating and moderating effects of teacher preference on the relationship between behavior problems and peer victimization. The subjects were 520 children in the fifth and sixth grades. Children completed peer nominations that assessed peer victimization. Teachers rated children's internalizing, externalizing problems and teacher preference. The full mediating effect of teacher preference was found in externalizing problems and the partial mediating effect was found in internalizing problems. Moreover, the moderating effect of teacher preference was found only in internalizing problems, which suggests that high teacher preference protects internalizing problems from peer victimization.
There is disagreement, among researchers, on the benefits of corrective feedback on L2 learners' written output. Some scholars advocate the usefulness of corrective feedback while some claim that error correction is ineffective and even harmful. So far, however, research outcomes cannot settle this debate. Based on this debate, this study examines whether there is a difference among diverse types of feedback on the effects of L2 learners' writing improvement. This study found that teacher's direct feedback was more effective than any other types of feedback on the effect of participants' writing improvement. In particular, teacher's direct feedback helped their improvement on grammar, mechanics, and form. Among the types of peer feedback, self-correction was the most effective. In teacher feedback, form-focused feedback had more effects than content-focused feedback, but no difference with regard to peer feedback. In addition, teacher's content-focused feedback was more effective than peer's content-focused feedback. Overall, in all types of feedback, teacher feedback was more effective than peer feedback. However, direct (form-focused) feedback was the most effective in teacher feedback, and self-correction in peer feedback. The least effective feedback in both teacher and peer feedback was indirect (form-focused) feedback, which is simple underlining of errors.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of children's peer-relationship and teacher-child relationship on the social competence. The subject of this study consisted of 115 children aged $4{\sim}5$ attending child care centers in Jeon-ju. Peer-relationship was assessed by the peer nomination measure. The teacher-child relationship and the social competence were evaluated by teacher's questionnaire. The results of this study were as follows : There were significant differences according to sex in teacher-child relationship and social competence. Social competences differed among popular, rejected and neglected children's groups. Teacher-child relationship significantly related with the social competence : The intimacy was positively and the conflict negatively related with the social competence. Intimacy, conflict, anxiety of teacher-child relationship accounted for 58% of the social competence variance. Intimacy of teacher-child relationship appeared to be the most important variable.
Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of children's emotional intelligence on teacher-child intimacy perceived by children and peer acceptance. Methods: The participants were 134 five-year-old children(71 boys, 63 girls) attending daycare centers and kindergarten in Seoul and Gyeong-nam province. Children were interviewed to measure teacher-child intimacy and peer acceptance. Teachers completed rating scales to measure children's emotional intelligence. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, three step mediated regression analysis and a Sobel test. Results: The main results are as follows. first, there were significant positive correlations of teacher-child intimacy, emotional intelligence, and children's peer acceptance. Second, children's emotional intelligence had a partial mediating effect on teacher-child intimacy and peer acceptance. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study demonstrates links between early teacher-child relationships and children's emotional and social development. In order to promote children's peer acceptance, it is necessary to build an intimate teacher-child relationship and to improve children's emotional intelligence based on that relationship.
