Freight Terminal Site Selection Using the Analytic Hierarchy Process: A Case Study on the Youngnan Freight Terminal (계층분석방법을 이용한 화물터미널 입지선정에 관한 연구 - 영남권 내륙화물기지 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • The Korean government has been working to reduce national logistics costs since the early 1990s. One of the major plans instituted by the government was to build five complex freight terminals using ICDs(inland container depots) as hub inland terminals. This paper explains the process and the methods adopted for site selection, with special focus on the Youngnam Freight Terminal. Among nineteen developable sites in Youngnam region, four candidates were selected based on the Map Overlay Approach under several criteria, including land acquisition costs, proximity to major highways and railroads, suitability of the terrain, etc. In this study, we used the AHP to select the best site among the four sites.

  • This treatise studies composing process that renew information mastered by interactive experience between environment and system via network among individuals. In the previous study map information regarding free space is learned by using of reinforced learning algorithm, which enable each individual to construct optimal action policy. Based on those action policy each individuals can obtain optimal path. Moreover decision process to distinguish best optimal path by comparing those in the network composed of each individuals is added. Also information about the finally chosen path is being updated. A self renewing method of each system information by sharing the each individual data via network is proposed Data enrichment by shilling the information of many maps not in the single map is tried Numerical simulation is conducted to confirm the propose concept. In order to prove its suitability experiment using micro-mouse by integrating and comparing the information between individuals is carried out in various types of map to reveal successful result.

  • IPS is an indoor positioning system that replaces GPS, which is less accurate due to walls and roofs inside buildings. Radio signals such as Wi-Fi are used instead of satellite signals, and complex methods are being used to increase accuracy. In this paper, we present a more efficient positioning method than before by applying high-level signals to high-accuracy fingerprint techniques. A radio map is configured with high-level signals collected by utilizing Wi-Fi APs, which are more than in the past. The suitability of use was confirmed by analyzing the pattern represented by the configured radio map for each location.

Improving the Slope Calculation Method for Evaluating the Feasibility of the Land Development (토지 개발 적정성 평가를 위한 경사도 계산 방법 개선)

  • Slope is one of the most important factor in land development permission standards. In guideline of "Land Suitability Assessment" or "Forest Land Conversion Standard", average slope can be measured using digital map and GIS for target area. Inputs in slope calculation are 1/5,000 digital map of NGII(National Geographic Information Institute) or digital information of Korea Land Information System. Many confusions occur in the field, as there is no standard for slope calculation and are lots of slope calculation methods using contour lines or DEM derived from them. Avoiding these confusions, this study was intended to propose a standardized method for slope calculation and a selection method for a suitable resolution. In this study, using DEM of optimum grid size according to the complexity of topography with finite difference method is suggested as improved slope calculation method, after comparing several representative slope calculation methods.

Analysis of Spatial Information Characteristics for Establishing Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry Matrix (Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry 매트릭스 작성을 위한 공간정보 특성 고찰)

  • The importance of establishing a greenhouse gas inventory is emerging for policymaking and its implementation to cope with climate change. Thus, it is needed to establish Approach 3 level Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) matrix that is spatially explicit regarding land use classifications and changes. In this study, four types of spatial information suitable for establishing the LULUCF matrix were analyzed - Cadastral Map, Land Cover Map, Forest Map, and Biotope Map. This research analyzed the classification properties of each type of spatial information and compared the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the maps in Boryeong city. Drawn from the conclusions of the quantitative comparison, the forest area showed the maximum difference of 50.42% ($303.79km^2$) in the forest map and 46.09%($276.65km^2$) in the cadastral map. The qualitative comparison drew five qualitative characteristics: data construction scope difference, data construction purpose difference, classification standard difference, and classification item difference. As a result of the study, it was evident that the biotope map was the most appropriate spatial information for the establishment of the LULUCF matrix. In addition, if the LULUCF matrix is made by integrating the biotope, the forest map, and the land cover map, the limitations of each spatial information would be improved. The accuracy of the LULUCF matrix is expected to be improved when the map of the level-3 land cover map and the biotope map of 1:5,000 covering the whole country are completed.

  • Biodiversity refers to the diversity of organisms originating from all sources, including terrestrial ecosystems, aquatic ecosystems, and complex ecosystems and it is considered to be the standard of the area to be preserved and protected. So The Importance of environmental assessment for biodiversity conservation is increasing and International efforts to quantify biodiversity and to develop indices have been made, but there are insufficient researches on the use of biomass databases and their quantification in Korea. In this study, the biodiversity map was constructed using the 3rd National Ecosystem Survey Mammal Data with three spatial units(Administrative Area, 1:5,000 index map, hexagonal lattice). and the difference of map constructed by spatial unit was suggested to help research on quantification and evaluation of biodiversity in the future. As a result of the study, biodiversity index for the same area varied according to the spatial unit and overall average and standard deviation were different too. Therefore it is necessary to utilize appropriate spatial unit considering the suitability and purpose of quantification rather than using specific unit. It also showed the necessity of establishing a standard for biodiversity index as a result of comparative analysis with ecosystem and nature map. Based on this research, comprehensive efforts should be made for the sustainable development of the country through further research and institutional improvement for quantification and evaluation of biodiversity, set standards.

Implementation of Camera-Based Autonomous Driving Vehicle for Indoor Delivery using SLAM (SLAM을 이용한 카메라 기반의 실내 배송용 자율주행 차량 구현)

  • In this paper, we proposed an autonomous vehicle platform that delivers goods to a designated destination based on the SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) map generated indoors by applying the Visual SLAM technology. To generate a SLAM map indoors, a depth camera for SLAM map generation was installed on the top of a small autonomous vehicle platform, and a tracking camera was installed for accurate location estimation in the SLAM map. In addition, a convolutional neural network (CNN) was used to recognize the label of the destination, and the driving algorithm was applied to accurately arrive at the destination. A prototype of an indoor delivery autonomous vehicle was manufactured, and the accuracy of the SLAM map was verified and a destination label recognition experiment was performed through CNN. As a result, the suitability of the autonomous driving vehicle implemented by increasing the label recognition success rate for indoor delivery purposes was verified.

Modeling the Spatial Distribution of Black-Necked Cranes in Ladakh Using Maximum Entropy

  • The Tibetan Plateau is home to the only alpine crane species, the black-necked crane (Grus nigricollis). Conservation efforts are severely hampered by a lack of knowledge on the spatial distribution and breeding habitats of this species. The ecological niche modeling framework used to predict the spatial distribution of this species, based on the maximum entropy and occurrence record data, allowed us to generate a species-specific spatial distribution map in Ladakh, Trans-Himalaya, India. The model was created by assimilating species occurrence data from 486 geographical sites with 24 topographic and bioclimatic variables. Fourteen variables helped forecast the distribution of black-necked cranes by 96.2%. The area under the curve score for the model training data was high (0.98), indicating the accuracy and predictive performance of the model. Of the total study area, the areas with high and moderate habitat suitability for black-necked cranes were anticipated to be 8,156 km2 and 6,759 km2, respectively. The area with high habitat suitability within the protected areas was 5,335 km2. The spatial distribution predicted using our model showed that the majority of speculated conservation areas bordered the existing protected areas of the Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary. Hence, we believe, that by increasing the current study area, we can account for these gaps in conservation areas, more effectively.

Site suitability for conifer plantation and a new challenge to utilize deciduous trees

  • Degraded plantation forests are increasing because of unfavorable forestry conditions prevailing in Japan, including falling timber prices, increasing operational costs, and aging and declining forestry workforce. To remedy this situation, appropriate management strategy is required. This study introduces the challenges of Odai Town, Mie Prefecture that employed a new management strategy by evaluating site suitability for conifer forests and that proposes a new forest management regime of planting deciduous trees in unsuitable sites. The site suitability for conifer forests was evaluated from two aspects: the natural site conditions and the relationship among site conditions, growth, and damage by Anaglyptus subfasciatus Pic. in Cryptomeria japonica D. Don and Chamaecyparis obtusa Sieb. Et Zucc. forests. By analyzing the relationship among site conditions, growth, and insect damage based on field data obtained in plantation forests, growth evaluation and insect damage evaluation maps were developed. Based on the natural forest investigation, natural site condition maps for C. japonica and C. obtusa were established. Furthermore, by integrating these evaluation maps with the forest road maps showing the accessibility to the forest, the forest management regime for the whole plantation area of Odai Town was established. The forest management regime map indicates the sites suitable for forestry: suitable for long-rotation, short-rotation, and potential sites for short-rotation. The sites unsuitable for forestry were considered to be more suitable for broadleaved forests. Clear-cutting was conducted in a small area and different seral stage saplings (approximately 20 deciduous tree species) suitable to the site conditions were planted in an area of $80-120m^2$ protected by deer-fences. This might establish a forest composed of many species with a multilayer vertical forest structure in a short period. The planted saplings were distributed neither randomly nor uniformly to reflect the natural distribution of trees in the forest. A challenge to develop new products using the deciduous trees has started, such as wood chips for preparing smoked food, essential oil, and deodorizer. As these challenges have just begun, their effects on enhancing sustainable resource management are still being monitored. Even with the challenges, this regime can be of high value as a management strategy to remedy the situation of expansion of degraded forests in Japan.

The Suitability Analysis of National Environmental Zoning Map for Selection of Location Possibility about Specific Development Projects (특정 개발사업의 입지 가능지 선정을 위한 국토환경성 평가지도의 적합성 분석)

  • In this study, I estimated the development possibility region reflecting of characteristics on region and development projects according to various development projects in order to evaluate the usability of National Environmental Zoning Map(NEZMap). I produced the development possibility maps by rating, and evaluated whether coincidence or not by comparison with NEZMap. As a result, I was able to identity that occurs difference between the development possibility map and NEZMap. I was able to verify that NEZMap which is produced by a uniform standard the entire country did not reflect the the regional & project characteristics. In the future, In order to improve the practical usabilty of NEZMap, the system is thought to be complementary that can further analyze characteristics of region & specific development projects in the NEZMap service system.
