  • It is very important thing providing basic theoretical structure to research about computer education to establish scientific identity of computer education. In addition, it will be expect to contribute qualitative improvement of computer education. As this viewpoint, I discussed about education in knowledge-information based society and the relation between knowledge, information, and ICT in this study. Through this discussion, I researched necessity and direction of computer education. Also, I researched the concept of computer subject matter education from discussion about the concept of subject matter education. In addition, I surveyed the concept, premises and elements of subject matter education, and I led the structure and direction of the computer subject matter education as subject matter education.

  • This study investigates preservice teachers' development of subject-matter knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge in teaching function concept. This development takes place in the pedagogical mathematics courses in which the theory of constructivism and cooperative learning theory are aligned. Pre and post courses test were administered to examine the development and the follow-up interviews were conducted to gain more details. Analysis of the written questionnaire results and interview transcripts reveal that their limited concept image can be extended and developed in depth through pedagogical mathematics courses that apply reformed teaching methods.

  • This study investigated elementary teachers' subject matter knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge of fractions. The subject for data collection were 12 in-service elementary teachers and data were collected through written test problems. The finding imply that most elementary teachers understand fraction construct as part-whole, show low level of understanding of operator, ratio, and measurement constructions and word problem posing, using models, and developing the algorithms to divide fractions. The research results indicates that experienced teachers possess poor knowledge of fractions against novice teachers.

  • Recently, a number of researches acknowledge the importance of 'reflection' and 'reflective teacher education,' and they highlight the implication of 'reflection' on the teacher's profession or the teacher education. The reflective thought is interpreted as a subject that should be taught or a sort of strategy that a teacher should learn, while the aspect is excluded that reflection is the interaction between the innate knowledge and the practice. As a result, the reflective teacher education programs that increase the level of reflection are developed and practiced, and the reflection is accepted as a tool for increasing teacher professionalism. Reflective teaching is en essential and basic element for the development of teacher knowledge. In particular, such teacher knowledge might be being gradually expanded by a teacher's self-assessment on reflection on his own instruction. For this reason, this study develops an assessment framework on instruction which is comprized of teacher knowledge and instructional process. To accomplish this, in this study, teacher knowledge is considered as a whole practice knowledge combined by subject matter knowledge, understanding of learners, teaching and learning methods and assessment, and instructional environment. Also, success on instruction in mathematics class might depend on the acquisition of teacher knowledge, instructional planning, instructional execution, and furthermore reflection on instruction. Especially, this study emphasizes that 'reflection on instruction', the most important step of instruction be reflected and examined by the teacher himself.

  • A case study was conducted to investigate the understandings of the subject matter knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge held by 63 elementary preservice teachers in dealing with the division by a fraction. The study results showed that, in terms of the subject matter knowledge, the preservice teachers did not have a conceptual understanding of the division by a fraction and, in terms of the pedagogical content knowledge, they depended heavily on algorithms without a conceptual understanding of the meaning of the division by a fraction.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyse between foreign curriculum and our high school industrial technology subject-matter curriculum, to review trend and stream of curriculum revision, and purpose and content system of subject-matter. This study was conducted through reviewing literature; research reference, journal, book, and Web materials. in this study, comparative target country was restricted to Japan, U. S. A., U. K., and N. Z., Australia that administer to similar subject with our industrial technology subject-matter. The major finding of this study were as follows: 1. A similar subject-matter with our industrial technology subject0matter was Japan' 'foundation of industrial technology' and 'project research', U. S. A.' 'technology' and etc, U. K.' 'design and technology', and N. Z.' 'technology', 'New South Wales in Australia' design and technology'. 2. The result of analysis to purpose and strength of subject-matter, our' industrial technology subject-matter was oriented to knowledge, understanding and career search in industrial area. but, the other was emphasized technological problem solving by process-based method with thinking and action. 3. In the curriculum content, our country was treat to content area of a broad industrial world. on the other hand, Japan; relationship between human and technology, environment, process technology and product technology, project research. U. S. A.; technology content standards by knowledge, process and context, U. K., N. Z., and Australia were focused 'design process'. Based on above results, the recommendation can be established as follows: 1. A study on the implementation of industrial technology curriculum. 2. A study on the perception and need assessment of expert and stakeholder about purpose and content system. of industrial technology subject-matter.

  • In this paper, we analyze what the components of mathematics teacher` knowledge are, and find that mathematics teacher need knowledge of three areas: subject matter knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, and pedagogical content knowledge. Studies of practicing teachers suggest that When teachers lack understanding in their respective disciplines, it inhibits them from providing students the best learning opportunities, but that a teacher possessing pedagogical content knowledge provides learners with multiple approaches into learning. Some teachers having sound knowledge of mathematics and students were able to respond appropriately to students' questions, design appropriate learning activities involving a variety of mathematical representations, and orchestrate mathematical discourse in the classroom. Thus, it appears that mathematics teachers' knowledge positively affect teaching and student learning..

  • In geography education, the research which conceptualize the subject matter is still scare. Generally, the subject matter is used as a given or taken for granted as tested. The subject matter is not accepted as a given, but needed to construct what is founded on learner's life as a thing of most important the process of teaching and learning. Today, most critics argue that schooling seems to represent only a catalog of subjects, a structure of socially prescribed knowledge, or a complex system of meanings, which may or may not fall within his grasp. To solve this problem the meaning of terms should be separated from socially fixed conditions. Therefore, this resarch explores ways to reconceptualize the subject matter of geography based on the learner's everyday life in geography education.

  • This article is based on an international collaborative study that aimed to investigate mathematical preparation of prospective elementary teachers in several selected education systems in East Asia. This article reports the Korean portion of the study. A survey instrument was developed to explore not only prospective teachers' knowledge of elementary mathematics curriculum and their beliefs in their preparation and mathematics instruction but also their subject matter knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge on the topic of fraction division. A total of 291 seniors in 3 universities participated in the survey. The results reveal these prospective teachers' strengths and weaknesses with regard to their knowledge of fraction division, and suggest that content-specific pedagogical knowledge needs to be emphasized in the teacher preparation program.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze teachers' pedagogical content knowledge on probability. Teachers' pedagogical content knowledge on probability was analyzed in detail into 2 categories: (a) subject matter knowledge, (b) knowledge of students' understanding and misunderstanding. The results showed, in terms of the subject matter knowledge, that the teachers have some probability misconception. And, it showed, in the point of the knowledge of students' understanding, they could not explain why students have difficulties to solve some tasks with regard to probability. This study raised several implications for teachers' professional development for effective mathematics instruction.
