The thermal conductivity of uranium oxide (UO2) containing pores and grain boundaries is investigated using continuum-level simulations based on the finite-difference method in two and three dimensions. Steady-state heat conduction is solved on microstructures generated from the phase-field model of the porous polycrystal to calculate the effective thermal conductivity of the domain. The effects of porosity, pore size, and grain size on the effective thermal conductivity of UO2 are quantified. Using simulation results, a new empirical model is developed to predict the effective thermal conductivity of porous polycrystalline UO2 fuel as a function of porosity and grain size.
We consider the following strongly damped wave equation on ℝ3 with memory utt - αΔut - βΔu + λu - ∫0∞ κ'(s)∆u(t - s)ds + f(x, u) + g(x, ut) = h, where a quite general memory kernel and the nonlinearity f exhibit a critical growth. Existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence results are provided as well as the existence of regular global and exponential attractors of finite fractal dimension.

II~VI compound semiconductors, $Zn_xCd_{1-x}S$ thin films have been synthesized onto indium-tin-oxide(ITO) coated glass substrates using thermal evaporation technique. The composition ratio x($0{\leq}x{\leq}1$) was varied to fabricate different kinds of $Zn_xCd_{1-x}S$ thin films including CdS(x=0) and ZnS(x=1) thin films. Then, the deposited thin films were thermally annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ to enhance their crystallinity. The chemical composition and electronic structure of films were investigated by using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). The optical energy gaps of the samples were determined by ultra violet-visible-near infrared(UV-Vis-NIR) spectroscopy and were found to vary in the range of 2.44 to 3.98 eV when x changes from 0 to 1. Finally, we measured the THz characteristics of the $Zn_xCd_{1-x}S$ thin films using THz-TDS(time domain spectroscopy) system to identify the capability for electronic and optical devices in THz region.

Most frequency-domain remote sensing image watermarking algorithms embed watermarks at random locations, which have negative impact on the watermark invisibility. In this study, we propose an adaptive watermarking scheme for remote sensing images that considers the information complexity to select where to embed watermarks to improve watermark invisibility without affecting algorithm robustness. The scheme converts remote sensing images from RGB to YCbCr color space, performs two-level DWT on luminance Y, and selects the high frequency coefficient of the low frequency component (HHY2) as the watermark embedding domain. To achieve adaptive embedding, HHY2 is divided into several 8*8 blocks, the entropy of each sub-block is calculated, and the block with the maximum entropy is chosen as the watermark embedding location. During embedding phase, the watermark image is also decomposed by two-level DWT, and the resulting high frequency coefficient (HHW2) is then embedded into the block with maximum entropy using α- blending. The experimental results show that the watermarked remote sensing images have high fidelity, indicating good invisibility. Under varying degrees of geometric, cropping, filtering, and noise attacks, the proposed watermarking can always extract high identifiable watermark images. Moreover, it is extremely stable and impervious to attack intensity interference.
Recent discoveries of ferroelectric properties in ultrathin doped hafnium oxide (HfO2) have led to the expectation that HfO2 could overcome the shortcomings of perovskite materials and be applied to electron devices such as Fe-Random access memory (RAM), ferroelectric tunnel junction (FTJ) and negative capacitance field effect transistor (NC-FET) device. As research on hafnium oxide ferroelectrics accelerates, several models to analyze the polarization switching characteristics of hafnium oxide ferroelectrics have been proposed from the domain or energy point of view. However, there is still a lack of in-depth consideration of models that can fully express the polarization switching properties of ferroelectrics. In this paper, a Zr-doped HfO2 thin film based metal-ferroelectric-metal (MFM) capacitor was implemented and the polarization switching dynamics, along with the ferroelectric characteristics, of the device were analyzed. In addition, a study was conducted to propose an applicable model of HfO2-based MFM capacitors by applying various ferroelectric switching characteristics models.
Magnetic properties of transition metal doped $La_{0.5}Ca_{0.5}(Mn_{0.98}TM_{0.02})O_3$(TM=Cr and Ti) are studied. The samples are synthesized by the conventional solid-state method. Using vibrating sample magnetometer magnetization-temperature measurement were carried out with zero field cooling and field cooling at 50 Oe. Cr-doped sample shows cluster or spin glass like behavior while Ti doped does not. Curie temperature obtained were decreased from that of LCMO(245.5 K). Curie temperatures of Cr-doped and Ti-doped samples are 235.5 K and 232.7 K, respectively. The temperature-dependent coercivity $H_c(T)$ was also measured. The coercive force continuously decreases with the substitution of Cr and Ti, The result can be understood in terms of the interaction between defect and domain wall.
Soluble or cell-bound IL-1 receptor accessory protein (IL-1RAcP) does not bind IL-1 but rather forms a complex with IL-1 and IL-1 receptor type I (IL-1RI) resulting in signal transduction. Synthetic peptides to various regions in the Ig-like domains of IL-1RAcP were used to produce antibodies and these antibodies were affinity-purified using the respective antigens. An anti-peptide-4 antibody which targets domain III inhibited 70% of IL-$1\beta$-induced productions of IL-6 and PGE2 from 3T3-L1 cells. Anti-peptide-2 or 3 also inhibited IL-1-induced IL-6 production by 30%. However, antipeptide-1 which is directed against domain I had no effect. The antibody was more effective against IL-$1\beta$ compared to IL-$1\alpha$. IL-1-induced IL-6 production was augmented by coincubation with PGE2. The COX inhibitor ibuprofen blocked IL-1-induced IL-6 and PGE2 production. These results confirm that IL-1RAcP is essential for IL-1 signaling and that increased production of IL-6 by IL-1 needs the co-induction of PGE2. However, the effect of PGE2 is independent of expressions of IL-1RI and IL-1RAcP. Our data suggest that domain III of IL-1RAcP may be involved in the formation or stabilization of the IL-1RI/IL-1 complex by binding to epitopes on domain III of the IL-1RI created following IL-1 binding to the IL-1RI.
The serine-threonine kinase AKT plays a pivotal role in tumor progression and is frequently overactivated in cancer cells; this protein is therefore a critical therapeutic target for cancer intervention. We aimed to identify small molecule inhibitors of the pleckstrin homology (PH) domain of AKT to disrupt binding of phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-trisphosphate (PIP3), thereby downregulating AKT activity. Liposome pulldown assays coupled with fluorescence spectrometry were used to screen flavonoids for inhibition of the AKT PH-PIP3 interaction. Western blotting was used to determine the effects of the inhibitors on AKT activation in cancer cells, and in silico docking was used for structural analysis and optimization of inhibitor structure. Several flavonoids showing up to 50% inhibition of the AKT PH-PIP3 interaction decreased the level of AKT activation at the cellular level. In addition, the modified flavonoid showed increased inhibitory effects and the approach would be applied to develop anticancer drug candidates. In this study, we provide a rationale for targeting the lipid-binding domain of AKT, rather than the catalytic kinase domain, in anticancer drug development.

We present power(in frequency domain) and rate adaptation(in time domain) schemes in multicarrier (MC) direct-sequence code-division multiple-access(DS/CDMA) communications. Utilizing channel state information from the receiver, the adaptation schemes allocate power the user's sub-band with the largest channel gain. In the time domain, the transmission data rate is adapted for a desired transmission quality. In the case of single-user channels, a closed-form expression is derived for an optimal time domain power adaptation that minimizes the average bit error rate(BER). Channel inversion power adaptation is found to provide nearly optimal performance in this case, as the number of sub-bands or available average transmission power increase. Analysis and simulation results show the BER performance of the proposed power and rate adaptations with fixed average transmission power significantly improves the performance over the power allocation in the frequency domain only. Also, we compare the performance of the proposed power and rate adaptation schemes in MC-DS/CDMA systems with that of power and rate adapted single carrier DS/CDMA systems with RAKE receiver.
In this work, we propose new method of sigma filtering for efficient filtering and preserving edge regions in DCT Domain. In block-based image compression technique, the image is first divided into non-overlapping $8{\times}8$ blocks. Then, the two-dimensional DCT is computed for each $8{\times}8$ block. Once the DCT coefficients are obtained, they are quantized using a specific quantization table. Quantization of the DCT coefficients is a lossy process, and in this step, noise is added. In this work, we combine IDCT matrix and filter matrix to a new matrix to simplify filtering process to remove noise after IDCT in spatial domain, for each $8{\times}8$ DCT coefficient block, we determine whether this block is edge or homogeneous region. If this block is edge region, we divide this $8{\times}8$ block into four $4{\times}4$ sub-blocks, and do filtering process for sub-blocks which is homogeneous region. By this process, we can remove blocking artifacts efficiently preserving edge regions at the same time.
