Bayesian test for the differences of survival functions in multiple groups

  • This paper proposes a Bayesian test for the equivalence of survival functions in multiple groups. Proposed Bayesian test use the model of Cox's regression with time-varying coefficients. B-spline expansions are used for the time-varying coefficients, and the proposed test use only the partial likelihood, which provides easier computations. Various simulations of the proposed test and typical tests such as log-rank and Fleming and Harrington tests were conducted. This result shows that the proposed test is consistent as data size increase. Specifically, the power of the proposed test is high despite the existence of crossing hazards. The proposed test is based on a Bayesian approach, which is more flexible when used in multiple tests. The proposed test can therefore perform various tests simultaneously. Real data analysis of Larynx Cancer Data was conducted to assess applicability.

  • In this paper we will prove the existence and uniqueness of the smoothest density with prescribed moments. The space of functions considered is the Sobolev space $W^2_m[0,1]$ and the target functional to be minimized is the seminorm $$\mid$$\mid$f^{(m)}$\mid$$\mid$_{L^2}$, which measures the roughness of the function f.

  • The path planning is done at the joint level. Cubic spline functions are used for constructing joint trajectories for industrial robots. For N-joint robot, Cartesian knots are transformed into N sets of joint displacements, with one set for each joint. For industrial application the speed of operation affects the productivity. An algorithm is developed to schedule the time intervals between each pair of adjacent knots such that the total traveling time is minimized subject to the physical constraints on joint velocties acceleration and jerks.

  • Based on the full Navier-Stokes solutions, the thermohydrodynamic performance of a long journal bearing is investigated. A numerical method based on Galerkin's procedure and B-spline test functions has been presented for solving two-dimensional problems involving fluid flow and heat transfer. For numerical stability the artificial compressibility is employed to the conservation of mass. The discretized algebraic equations are solved by Newton's method. Effects of varying the speed of an inner cylinder to load carrying capacity are investigated. The results indicated that the increase of the speed of an inner cylinder has a significant effect on the temperature profile and ultimately on the performance.

  • In this paper we develope a new nonparametric estimator of the reliability in strength-stress model. This estimator is constructed using the maximum likelihood estimate of cumulative failure rate in the class of distributions which have piecewise linear failure rate functions between each pair of observations. Large sample properties of our estimator are examined. The proposed estimator is compared with previously known estimator by Monte Carlo study.

  • We present formula for detecting influential observations on the smoothing parameter in smoothing spline. Further, we express them as functions of basic building blocks such as residuals and leverage, and compare it with the local influence approach by Thomas (1991). An example based on a real data set is given.

Free vibration analysis of cantilever cylindrical tanks

  • General free vibration characteristics of cantilevered circular cylindrical tanks are analyzed using the integral equations technique with the cubic spline functions. For computations, the partial differential equations for thin shallow shells as given by Flugge's have been employed after the addition of the inertia forces. The application of the method is illustrated with a numerical examples of tanks which are free at the top edge and fixed at the bottom. The results obtained by this method have been compared with the available results and a good agreement was found.

  • 디지털 전산모사(computer simulation)는 모든 융합기술 분야에서 실험을 통한 이론 정립에 중요한 역할을 담당하고 있으며, 보간법은 격자위에서의 알고 있는 값을 이용하여 모르는 값을 알아내는 방법론이다. 그러므로 보간법의 선택은 디지털 전산모사에서 아주 중요한 문제이다. 본 논문에서는 디지털 전산모사 작업에서 사용되는 6종류의 보간법(Quartic-Lagrangian, Cubic Spline, Fourier, Hermite, PWENO, SL-WENO)의 성능을 비교, 평가한다. 디지털 전산모사의 선형 이류 방정식을 각 방법에 적용함으로써 장단점을 분석하였다. 각 방법론의 성능을 비교하기 위하여, 정확도 계산과 오차 함수를 도입한다. 정확도의 계산은 잘 알고 있는 $L^1-norm$ 계산, 분산 계산, 소멸 오차 그리고 전체적인 오차를 시행한다. 고차의 방법론이 효과적이기는 하나 진동 등 기타의 요인이 발생한다.
