  • In this paper a method to perform Exclusive-OR operation between two tabular type Boolean expressions is presented. The proposed method allows to solve the switching equations and the simultaneous equations in a rather direct manner, compared with Unger's method.

  • Problem solving ability can be fostered by dealing with many different types of problems. We investigated how $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ graders who did not learn traditional algebraic methods might approach the word problems of simultaneous equations. This result reveals that the strategy of guess-and-check serves as a basis for elementary school students in solving simultaneous equations. A noticeable remark is that students used the guess-and-check strategy in various ways. Whereas some students changed a variable given in the problem step by step, others did in a sophisticated way focusing on the relation between two variables. Moreover, some students were able to write an equation which was not typical but meaningful and correct. This paper emphasizes the need of connections between pre-algebraic and algebraic solutions.

  • Moment distribution procedure in the elastic analysis of rigid frames can be easily expressed with the adjusting moment equations(or relaxation equations) by using the concept of total adjusting moment at each joint after infinite cycles of moment distribution. Adjusting moment equations are a set of simultaneous equations from which the total adjusting moments at each joints after infinite cycles of physical relaxation can be determined. The form of simultaneous equations is a kind of relaxation equations and can be easily solved by the hand calculators. A unique and simplified procedure for the influence line analysis of a continuous beam is presented as an application of the method.

  • This paper deals with the Cauchy problem for heat equations with coupling moving reactions of mixed type. After obtaining the infinite Fujita blow-up exponent, we classify optimally the simultaneous and non-simultaneous blow-up for two components of the solutions. Moreover, blow-up rates and set are determined. By using the analogous procedures, one can fill in the gaps for the other two systems, which are studied in the paper 'Australian and New Zealand Industrial and Applied Mathematics Journal' 48(2006)37-56.

  • Striaght-forward application of the ordinary least squares model for estimating the parameters of a simultaneous linear stochastic equations model does not provide consistent estimators due to the fact that the explanatory jointly dependent variables are correlated with the disturbances. The search for consistent estimators during the last three decades has yielded a variety of estimators which can be broadly classified into two groups, namely, limited information and full information. Both the groups fails to uilize the over-identifying restrictions in the structural equations except the one under study while the latter group succeeds; see, e.g. Srivastava(1978) for a brief review and Theil (1961) for a detail description.

  • Hamilton's Markov-switching model [5] was extended to the simultaneous equations model. A framework for an instrumental variable interpretation of full information maximum likelihood (FIML) by Hausman [4] can be used to deal with the problem of simultaneous equations based on the Hamilton filter [5]. A comparison of the proposed FIML Markov-switching model with the LIML Markov-switching models [1,2,3] revealed the LIML Markov-switching models to be a special case of the proposed FIML Markov-switching model, where all but the first equation were just identified. Moreover, the proposed Markov-switching model is a general form in simultaneous equations and covers a broad class of models that could not be handled previously. Excess sensitivity of marginal propensity to consume with big shocks, such as housing bubble bursts in 2008, can be determined by applying the proposed model to Campbell and Mankiw's consumption function [6], and allowing for the possibility of structural breaks in the sensitivity of consumption growth to income growth.

  • Pulsed wire evaporation (PWE) method is known as the promising production-technique for nanopowders. In this study, we developed and modified the previous single wire explosion equipment to the simultaneous two-wire explosion one for the fabrication of alloy or mixture of nano metallic powder. First of all, both the theoretical and empirical background of pulsed wire explosion of single wire were summarized, and compared with our experimental results for Cu and Al single wlre explosion. After then, the simultaneous wire evaporation equipment was designed, constructed, and tested. The current and voltage behavior were well matched between the calculated ones from the circuit equations, and the experimental results from simultaneous explosion of Cu and Al wire.

  • In the present paper we shall introduce several operators on the reproducing kernel spaces. And using them we shall find a solution of an infinite system of quadratic equations (1.1). In particular we shall convert problem for finding an approximate solution of infinite system of quadratic equations into problem for minimizing nonnegative biquadratic polynomial.

  • The multiple-ridged circular waveguides is analyzed using Fourier series and the mode matching technique. The enforcement of the boundary conditions yields the simultaneous equations for the field coefficient inside the waveguides. The simultaneous equations are solved to represent a dispersion relation in an analytic series form. The numerical computation is performed to illustrate the behavior of the cutoff wavenumbers in terms of number, length and angle of ridges. The presented series solution is exact and rapidly-convergent so that it is efficient for numerical computation. A simple dispersion relation based on the dominant mode analysis is obtained and is shown to be very accurate for most practical applications.

  • A program for numerical analysis of induced lightning surge is developed. The program first converts simultaneous differential equations into simultaneous difference equations for line sections without transition points, and calculates the line voltage and current by solving a determinant. It, then, calculates the line voltage and current at transition points by applying kirhhoffs law. This program is potentially useful in a wide range of applications for investigating the effect on distribution lines of lightning protection equipment such as lightning arresters and overhead ground wires.
