The purpose of this paper is to schedule elective surgery patients using a stochastic programming approach and to illustrate how operating room utilization behaves when a decision-maker varies costs associated with utilization. Because of the uncertainty in surgery durations, the underage and overage costs that a decision-maker considers plays an important role in allocating surgery cases into available operating room capacity. We formulate the problem as a stochastic mixed integer programming and propose a sampling-based approximation method for a computational purpose. Newsvendor model is employed to explain the results from numerical experiments that are conducted with the actual data from a hospital. The results show that the operating room utilization is more sensitive when the unit overtime cost is relatively larger than the unit cost for underutilized time.

At the reference plant(Wolsong unit No. 1) a manual poison sampling system is provided to periodically sample gadolinium from each tank and analyze it in the laboratory to provide assurance that adequate poison concentration in each tank is maintained. The AECB required a continuous, on-line monitoring system. On Wolsong unit No. 2, process piping adapter and new instrument loops added to the Liquid Injection Shutdown System(LISS) which is part of SDS2. The new instrument loops continuously monitor SDS2 poison conductivity and initiate an alarm when the poison concentration is too low.

The purpose of this study was investigate teachers’demands for home economics guidebooks of senior high school. Home economics teachers of the 379 schools were systematic all selected in nationwide random sampling, and over half of them responded to the mailed questionnaire. These data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, t-test, crosstab ulations, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlations. The findings of this study were as follows: 1) Three kinds of guidbooks and textbooks were mainly used, and over 50% of teachers were using more than one guidebooks to prepare lectures, specially, housing unit. But the satisfaction with the guidebooks was about average. 2) Teachers had different opinions on the information in the housing unit of the guidebook. 3) The most respondents updated statistics, pictures, and practical materials.

This paper presents a new algorithm which evaluates production cost and reliability indices under various constraints of the thermal generation system. In order to consider the operational constraints of thermal units effectively, the proposed algorithm is based on Monte Carlo techniques instead of analytical ones which have difficulty in modelling the units with additional constraints. At that point, generating units are modelled into two types, base load units and peaking units. These generating unit models are used in state duration sampling simulation for which approach can readily consider the peaking unit operating cycles and easily calculates frequency-duration indices. The proposed production simulation algorithm is applied to the IEEE Reliability Test System, and performs the production simulation under the given constraints. The results show that the proposed algorithm is accurate, reliable and useful.

In this paper we show that the results of Ahn and Cho (1992) can be applied to a more general class of seasonal models, especially models with autocorrelated errors. Employing the idea of the "two-step estimation" method, we provide test statistics which are easy to compute and have the same asymptotic properties as those in Ahn and Cho (1992) for seasonal unit roots. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the methods and concepts. The power of the test statistics for finite samples is examined through a Monte Carlo sampling experiment.xperiment.

Recently, TRAO Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory is developing wide-band digital spectrometer for radio astronomy, which will be used as back-end signal processing unit of Dual channel SIS receiver. So in this paper, we performed development of high speed digitizing sampler for the wide-band digital autocorrelator, which can perform sampling and quantization on pseudo-random gaussian noise with the maximum conversion speed of 1.5 Gsps..

In this paper, single-phase PWM AC to AC converter that operates with unit powr factor and sinusidal input line currents is presented. The currentcontrol of this converter is based on the predicted current control method with fixed switching frequency and the line currents track to reference currents within sampling time interval.

Trot(1999) considered how to calculate the expected area of a random triangle in the unit square $[0,1]{\times}[0,1]$. He used the Mathematica software package for the computational part. In this article, we study various aspects of the probability distribution of a triangle randomly chosen inside the circle of radius r. A simulation activity that can be conducted in statistics and probability classrooms is also considered.

This paper describes ECG data compression algorithm using neural network. As a learning method, we use back error propagation algorithm. ECG data compression is performed using learning ability of neural network. CSE database, which is sampled 12bit digitized at 500samp1e/sec, is selected as a input signal. In order to reduce unit number of input layer, we modify sampling ratio 250samples/sec in QRS complex, 125samples/sec in P & T wave respectively. hs a input pattern of neural network, from 35 points backward to 45 points forward sample Points of R peak are used.

In the research or project planning for the decommissioning of a nuclear power plant, one of several preparations will be the establishment of a list of potential radionuclides to be considered at the time of characterization or final status surveys. Reliable data for selection of potential radionuclides during the transition period to prepare for decommissioning will depend heavily on historical data at the site or, where possible, sampling analysis. However, during the transition period, direct sampling can be challenging, depending on the circumstances of the site or national regulation. A methodology of selecting potential radionuclides for nuclear facility sites which largely consists of three major processes: production of initial list of radionuclides, selection of the insignificant radionuclide that will be eliminated, and consideration of site characterization or sampling. For developing a preliminary list of potential radionuclides for Kori Unit 1 decommissioning, the list of initial radionuclides was made referring to the technical documents applied at decommissioned NPPs in the U.S and additional reference materials applied until the operation of NPPs in Korea. For the screening of insignificant radionuclides, we applied criterion of less than 0.1% of the amount of radioactivity inventory and confirmed the dose fraction using the RESRAD code. The final suit of radionuclides was established, which should be supplemented by reflecting site characterization and sampling process in the future. Thus, the methodology and results for the selection of potential radionuclides suggested in this paper can give an insight as a future reference to deriving DCGLs in relation to site remediation of decommissioning nuclear plants.
