With the recent emphasis on evidence-based research and practice, the field of music therapy has called for rigorous reviews of the scientific data and for therapeutic rationales for research procedures. The purpose of this study was to review studies that used a rhythm task as a therapy intervention in terms of whether they provided a rationale for the components related to the intervention. The components included activity rationale, music rationale, intervention validity, intervention format (individual or group), intervention development (contour), duration, and intervention provider. A total of 41 studies were selected: 22 studies were implemented by music therapists and 19 by professionals in other related fields. In terms of seven assessment categories, only 10 studies were found to report more than four items which are related to a rationale of interventions. The 10 studies identified were further examined to determine if their intervention rationale differed depending on whether the study included a researcher-formulated intervention or an existing music therapy protocol. Of the 10 studies, six used a researcher-formulated rhythm intervention, and four used an existing music therapy protocol. Those studies that used an existing music therapy protocol also provided a clear rationale for music selection, whereas those that used a researcher-formulated rhythm task tended to provide an activity rationale. The results of this study suggest that researchers need to be clearer about their interventions and provide an evidence-based rationale for why and how they use a rhythm task.
This study is an analysis and review of the international research on interventions using music for the rehabilitation of patients with Parkinson's disease(PD). It categorizes 24 intervention studies conducted over the last 20 years based on the level of music usage and type of music utilized. The aim of this analysis was to identify which musical elements improved timing issues related to the initiation and cessation of movement in patients with PD. The studies involved six with music-based interventions and 18 with rhythm-based interventions, depending on the level of music usage. Rhythm, a common element in music, was a suitable factor for addressing the participants' issues. Furthermore, this review suggests that the characteristics of the researchers impact the extent to which musical elements are used and the diversity of those elements, which influences the intervention's effectiveness. Therefore, this study provides information on how to specify and systematically consider intervention efforts and the use of musical elements that can be applied in rehabilitation for patients with PD.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand sleep circadian rhythm and sleep quality between normal-weight and obese group according to Body Mass Index to develop education and nursing intervention programs for the obese. There were statistically significant results on sleep quality with covariance sex and stress, sleep duration, habitual sleep efficiency and sleep disturbance between normal-weight and obese group. There were statistically significant results on sleep quality, sleep duration, habitual sleep efficiency and sleep disturbance in middle type of sleep circadian rhythm between normal-weight and obese group. Conclusion: Therefore, it is necessary to consider subject's sleep pattern to develop education and nursing intervention programs for the obese.
Purpose: This study was done to identify the influence of severity of drinking problem, circadian rhythm and sleep quality in patients with alcohol use. Methods: A descriptive study design was utilized. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from 139 patients with alcohol use disorder who were admitted to a psychiatric hospital in D city, Korea. The questionnaires included Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), Composite Scale of Morningness (CMS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Korea sleep scale A. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regressions using the SPSS 20.0 program. Results: There was significant correlations among severity of problem drinking, circadian rhythm, sleep quality and sleep disorder. The significant factors influencing sleep disorder were severity of problem drinking(${\beta}=.12$, p= .042), circadian rhythm(${\beta}=-.14$, p= .039) and sleep quality(${\beta}=.63$, p= < .001). This model explained 56% of variance in sleep disorder(F = 57.34, p= < .001). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the development of sleep intervention programs for alcohol use disorder patients needs to consider severity of alcohol use, circadian rhythm and sleep quality, and sleep assessment and intervention are needed the early stage of the treatment and recovery process.
Purpose : To describes the important aspects of scapular movement and function used when applying PNF technique to the upper limb and scapular. Method : The scapular was a very important roles in the upper limb movement. This study summarizes the physiologic movement of scapular to the PNF upper extremity patterns or scapular patterns. Result : The shoulder joint has the most freedom of range of motion in the human body, composed of the glenohumeral joint, the subacromial joint, the acromioclavical joint, the sternoclavicular joint, the scapulothoracic joint, the costosternal joint, and the costovertebral joint. During upper limb movement, the scapular position change at the sternoclavicular joint and the acromioclavical joint. This concerted motion was characterized by scapulohumeral rhythm. In clinical situations, it is import to understand factors affect the scapulohumeral rhythm so that optimal evaluation and therapeutic intervention can be devised. Conclusions : The scapular movement depend on the proper and coordinated contraction of muscles. Physical therapists need to understand the normal scapular movement relationships of the scapulohumeral rhythm under different interventions for PNF techniques application.
The aim of this article is to argue that rhythm of janggu may have meaningful effects as a form of vitality for the elderly. Janggu is the most popular and soft pitched instrument in the percussion family in Korean music. It is warm and soft makes very deep and exquisite sounds. Janggu is a source of Korean national pride because of unique, manifestation of yin-yang five-elements represented in Korean music. The meaning and influence of rhythm in human is in essence and natural. This style paper is a course of happy life and a basic step toward in the world. Music therapy has been employed as a therapeutic intervention to facilitate healing across a many of clinical populations. A cheerful rhythm of janggu promotes the vitality of the elderly. This joining has contributed to the vitality, health improvement and the whole body for the elderly. Instead of visiting hospital, they sit in front of the janggu what could be better than a daily dose of exercise. Therefore, the author thinks this might help them forget their anxieties, this very moment, janggu music rhythm therapy lays the foundation of a more vital lifestyle.
Purpose: This study aims to identify changes in the mirror neuron system in normal people through mu rhythm during action observation of occupation-based intervention, purposeful activity and prepare a method of intervention form of occupation using occupation and activity. Methods: TThis study aims to identify changes in the mirror neuron system in normal people through mu rhythm during action observation of occupation-based intervention, purposeful activity and prepare a method of intervention form of occupation using occupation and activity. The activation of the mirror neuron system was compaired among 3 condition by oneway ANOVA. Results: The result of analysis showed mu suppression in all conditions. Although all conditions showed mu suppression, there was no significant difference among the conditions. Conclusion: The results suggest that the mirror neuron system is activated during action observation to be able to occupational therapy but the mirror neuron system is not separately activated among the conditions.
Nanta means "tapping" using percussion instruments such as drums, which is the rhythm of Samulnori, a tradtional Korean music. Nanta speech rhythm intervention program was developed and applied for the children with limited speech sound production and investigated its effect. Nanta program provided audible stimulation, various sound loudness and beats, and rhythms. Nanta program consists of three stages : Respiration, phonation and articulation with the rhythm. Six children with language development delay participated in this study. Children were encouraged to explore sounds and beats and freely express sounds and beats. Along with the rhythm, children also were encouraged to produce speech sounds by increasing the length of syllables in mimetic and imitating words. A total of 15 sessions were conducted twice a week for 40 minutes per session. For exploring the effectiveness, raw scores from preschool receptive-expressive scales (PRES) and receptive-expressive vocabulary test (REVT) were obtained and compared before and after therapy. The results demonstrated that significantly improved receptive (p=.027) and expressive language scores (p=.024) in PRES and receptive (p=.028) and expressive (p=.028) vocabulary scores following intervention using Wilcoxon signed-rank test. These findings suggest that the nanta rhythm program can be useful for improving language development and vocabulary in children with limited speech sound production.

The aim of this study was to develop a mobile application 'Beat Processing Device (BPD)' to record and quantify the data for the performance accuracy of rhythm production. BPD has been developed in three phases. First, we reviewed studies that used rhythm as main intervention strategy to improve cognitive functioning of older adults, and derived four basic rhythm idioms. Second, we developed an iOS-based mobile application, optimized the device, the instrument tone, and the measurement variables through preliminary test. Lastly, we tested the mobile application by comparing the performance data obtained from MIDI and BPD from 60 older adults. The device was shown to be reliable and consistent with other mode of measurement and analysis. Conclusively, BPD can be a useful tool for assessing rhythm production ability in the course of cognitive skills training.
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to see the effect of walking when training for chronic stroke patients, Affected side vision impairment induced gait training with rhythmic auditory stimulation in parallel. Methods: This study was the general walking training group, the training group was divided damage induced affected side view, affected side view damage induced by rhythm auditory stimulation training three groups. Intervention period was 4 weeks. 5 times per week, per 30 min entered arbitration.
