  • The need for Fault Current Limiters (FCL) is associated with the continuous growth and interconnection of modem power systems and increase in dispersed generation facilities, which result in progressive increase in the short circuit capacity far beyond their original design capacity. Fault Current Limiters (FCL) clips the fault currents and reduces the electromechanical stresses on the network and the need to handle excessive fault currents. In addition, the reduction of the fault duration Provided by the limiter should increase the power transmission capability and improve the dynamic stability. This paper proposes the model of resistive type superconducting fault current limiter using EMTDC(Electromagnetic transients for DC analysis program). In order to verify the effectiveness of the SFCL, in this paper, the analysis of fault current in a transmission system through the EMTDC based simulation by using the modeled component of a resistive type SFCL is peformed and the detailed results are given.

  • The forming, reset and set operation of bipolar resistive random access memory (RRAM) have been predicted by using a finite element (FE) model which includes interface effects. To the best of our knowledge, our bipolar RRAM model is applicable to realistic cell structure optimization because our model is based on the FE method (FEM) unlike precedent models.

  • DRAM, SRAM, and FLASH memory are three major memory devices currently used in most electronic applications. But, they have very distinct attributes, therefore, each memory could be used only for limited applications. MRAM (Magneto-resistive Random Access Memory) is a promising candidate for a universal memory that meets all application needs with non-volatile, fast operational speed, and low power consumption. The simplest architecture of MRAM cell is a series of MTJ (Magnetic Tunnel Junction) as a data storage part and MOS transistor as a data selection part. To be a commercially competitive memory device, scalability is an important factor as well. This paper is testing the actual electrical parameters and the scaling factors to limit MRAM technology in the semiconductor based memory device by an actual integration of MRAM core cell. Electrical tuning of MOS/MTJ, and control of resistance are important factors for data sensing, and control of magnetic switching for data writing.

  • Magnesium is the lightest of all the structural metals having density of 1.74. It is approximately 2/3 lighter than aluminium, l/4 lighter than titanium alloy and 1/5 lighter than iron. Among the light-weight alloys, magnesium and its alloys show a good possibility for high performance aerospace and automotive applications, however the widespread use of magnesium alloys has been limited mainly by its poor oxidation and corrosion resistance. In this work, corrosion-resistive thin films were prepared onto the magnesium alloy substrate(AZ91D) by environmental friendly coating technique, ion plating method. And their corrosion protection mechanism were analyzed.

  • We simulated the current limiting characteristics of a resistive SFCL with 16 ${\Omega}$ of resistance for a single line-to-ground fault in the 22.9 kV system. The transient current during the fault increased up to 6.33 kA, 5.80 kA and 3.71 kA without SFCL at the fault angles of 0${\circ}$,45${\circ}$ and 90${\circ}$, respectively. An resistive SFCL limited the fault current to 2.27 kA in a half cycle. The quench resistance of 16 ${\Omega}$ was suggested to be appropriate to limit the fault current in the 22.9 kV distribution system.

  • Current noise is an important indication of quality in deposited carbon film resistors. Imperfections in the resistive film create high current densities and consequently high current noise. The magnitude of current noise is depend upon many inherent properties of the resistor such as resistive material and others such as processing, fabrication and packing of resistive elements, etc. Performance tests have definitely established a correlation between current noise and electrical performance of carbon film resistors. To interprete the normal distribution of the current noise index for representative groups of resistors would serve as a powerful tool in judging the Quality control and product uniformity by the manufacturer.

  • In order to detect very short electromagnetic pulses (EMP) with picosecond width, a receiving antenna with a wide bandwidth and good sensitivity over several GHz is needed. In this paper, the receiving characteristics of various thin wire monopole (or dipole) antennas with nonreflecting resistive loading are analyzed for determining the optimum configurations. This study also indicates that it is possible to choose an ideal load impedance for achieving the required fidelity and sensitivity. The analysis is facilitated by introducing the frequency transfer function.

  • The rating of a circuit breaker depends not only on the interrupting current but also on a transient recovery voltage (TRV). To achieve a successful interruption, the circuit breaker must withstand the TRV. A superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is a device that limits the fault current fast and effectively without having high impedance during normal operation of the power system. Therefore, we studied the influence of the TRV according to the application of a resistive type SFCL in distribution system. This paper analyses the influence of the TRV for various application position of the resistive SFCL. The distribution system and the resistive SFCL were modeled by using EMTP-RV (Electromagnetic Transient Program - Restructured Version)

  • When electric power systems expand and become more interconnected, the fault current levels increase in the distribution system. Therefore, we studied the influence of the power system according to application of a resistive FCL. In this paper, the distribution system and the resistive FCL were modeled by using EMTP (Electromagnetic Transients Program), which simulates the effect of the resistive FCL for the single line ground fault in distribution system.

  • This study is the modeling of resistive type SFCLs. There was numerical modeling and simulation using EMTP in the conventional modeling of SFCL. The numerical modeling was presented an analysis of numerical characteristic of SFCL. And the modeling using EMTP was made up of the study for setting method of specific parameters of a SFCL. This paper proposes the model of resistive type superconducting fault current limiter using EMTDC(Electromagnetic transients for DC analysis program). The simulation schemes that can be applied to the utility network readily and cheaply under various conditions considering the sort of fault, the capacity of systems as well are strongly expected and emphasized among researchers.
