  • The purpose of this study is to perform the reliability-corrected development cost estimation of the launch vehicle at the conceptual design phase. In order to estimate the launch vehicle development cost, the estimation method based on the independent variable such as the rocket performance and dry mass has been mainly implemented up to now. This approach has made the approximate cost estimation possible, however, the cost variation according to the reliability requirement could not be reflected. In this paper, the cost estimation methodology that introduces the reliability factor in addition to the performance and mass in the TRANSCOST model is presented in order to improve the limitation of current cost estimation method. The development cost of KSLV(Korea Space Launch Vehicle)-II is estimated on the basis of this newly implemented concept with reliability as an added parameter.

  • In this study, effective methods for reliability estimation and reliability-based design optimization(RBDO) are proposed using kriging metamodel and genetic algorithm. In our previous study, we proposed the accurate method for reliability estimation using two-staged kriging metamodel and genetic algorithm. In this study, the possibility of applying the previously proposed method to RBDO is investigated. The efficiency and accuracy of that method were much improved than those of the first order reliability method(FORM). Finally, the effective method for RBDO is proposed and applied to numerical examples. The results are compared to the existing RBDO methods and shown to be very effective and accurate.

  • Due to the large scale application of software systems, software reliability plays an important role in software developments. In this paper, a software reliability growth model (SRGM) is proposed. The testing time on the right is truncated in this model. The instantaneous failure rate, mean-value function, error detection rate, reliability of the software, estimation of parameters and the simple applications of this model are discussed .

  • In this paper, the development of probability distribution estimation program for fatigue crack growth lives was summarize. The probability distribution estimation program of life was developed to increase the reliability of life estimation. In this study, it is considered that the cause of scatter in fatigue crack growth data is due to material inhomogeneity. The material resistance to fatigue crack growth is modelled as a spatial stochastic process, which varies randomly along the crack path. We developed the GUI program to estimate the probability distribution and reliability using the non-Gaussian stochastic process method. This program can be used for the reliability assessment.

  • Reliability tools such as QFD and FMEA identify voice of customer related to product design, its use, how failures may occur, the severity of such failures, and the probability of the failure occurring. With these identified items, a development team can focus on the design process and the major issues facing the product in its potential use environment for the customer. The purpose of this research is to develop a reliability estimation process of agricultural machinery components using QFD, FMEA, and field failure data. Based on QFD method, customer requirements, engineering design elements and part characteristics were deployed. Using the field failure data, failures are investigated, and Weibull B10 life are estimated. This estimation process is useful for preparing the design input and planning the durability target.
