In a sample of 594 seventh to ninth graders, this study examined the relation between bullying-victimization and the self-esteem and the implication of peer support in their relation. The results of study were as followed: 1) significant sex difference was observed in the victimization but not in the bullying. 2) the bullying was positively correlated with the peer-related self and physical competence self, and negatively correlated with personality self among boys. Among girls, bullying was positively correlated with the peer-related self and negatively correlated with personality self. 3) the victimization was negatively correlated with peer-related self, academic self, physical appearance self, and physical competence self among boys. Among girls, the victimization was negatively correlated with peer-related self, home self, and physical appearance self. 4) the peer support mediate the relation of the buoying-victimization and self-esteem. Results are discussed the role of peer support in the relationship between bullying-victimization and self-esteem.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among peer relation disposition, relationship maintenance effort and school adjustment of gifted students and non-gifted students. And then the final purpose of the study is to give suggestions to help improving gifted students' peer relationship and their school adjustment. For the study, 175 gifted students and 179 non-gifted students in grades 4 and 6 of 5 elementary schools in urban areas were assessed on their peer relation disposition, relationship maintenance effort and school adjustment. The results are summarized as follows. First, gifted students were significantly higher than that of the non-gifted students as a whole. Second, in the correlation among peer relation disposition, relationship maintenance effort and school adjustment, peer relation disposition and relationship maintenance effort showed a significantly positive correlation with all the subvariables of school adjustment. Third, Sympathy-Acceptance disposition was the most influential factor for gifted students, and Independence-Responsibility disposition was the most influential factor for non-gifted students. Finally, the cluster analysis results based on the peer relation type of the gifted and the non-gifted suggested four meaningful clusters. And the four clusters showed significantly differences with all the subvariables of school adjustment. Implications of the study were discussed in depth related to the gifted education practices.
The purpose of this study is to examine how the level of participation in dance classes affects the development of social skills and peer relationship. The results are as follows: First, in terms of social skill development and peer relationship based on demographic characteristics, competition-a sub-factor of peer relationship-was higher in male students. In terms of grade level, confidence-a sub-factor of peer relationship-was high in second year students. Second, in terms of the effect of dance class participation on social skill development, autonomy, achievement, and cooperation-sub-factors of social skill-were significantly influenced by the period of participation in dance classes. Participation frequency, on the other hand, was found to significantly impact accountability and activity. Such results indicate that longer dance class participation periods more significantly influences social skill development. Third, in terms of the influence of dance class participation in peer relationship, students who participated in dance classes longer experienced positive impacts regarding sub-factors of peer relationship. Longer participation periods were correlated with lower hostilities. That is, longer participation period and time, as well as, higher participation frequency, have impact on peer relationship.
This study examined the moderating role of teacher-child relationship on the relation between children's shyness and peer victimization. Participants were 200 children(97 boys, 103 girls; recruited from classes with 5-6 year olds) and their kindergarten teachers. The teachers completed rating scales to measure the children's peer victimization, shyness and teacher-child relationship. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, correlations, and hierarchical multiple regressions. Boys and girls were analyzed separately. Results showed that children's shyness had a positive relation to their peer victimization. Teacher-child relationship significantly related to children's peer victimization. Hierarchical regression analysis indicated that the interaction of boys' shyness and teacher-child closeness predicted boys' peer victimization. Boys' shyness, whose teachers demonstrated the lowest level of teacher-child closeness, was significantly associated with their peer victimization. Boys' shyness had a significant relation to their peer victimization, especially for the highest level of teacher-child conflictual relationship. Results are discussed in terms of the role of teachers to shy boys' peer victimization.
The purpose of this study was to investigate how parenting and peer relationships influence the development of adolescent self-concept by using Structural Equation Modeling(SEM). The subjects were 198 first graders (94 male and 104 female) from four high schools within the Seoul area. Descriptive and comparative statistical analysis was conducted with SPSS (Version10.0), while AMOS (Version 4.0) was used to assess structural equation modelling of parenting, peer relationship and the self-concept. Results showed that, in terms of correlation, more positive parenting behaviors induced more positive self-concept. In addition, better peer relationships demonstrated more positive self-concept. Regression analysis showed that peer relationships explained the variance in adolescents' self-concept more effectively than parenting behavior. This was confirmed by the SEM.
This study examined sex and grade difference in perceived peer relations and the relationship between children's social competence and perceived peer relations. The subjects were 365 children and their mothers. Instruments were the Children's Social Competence Questionnaire (Lee, 1993) and the modified version the of Social Network of Relationships Inventory (Han, 1996). Data were analysed by F-test, Pearson's correlations, and multiple regression analysis. Perceived peer relations differed by sex and grade in some sub-domains. The social support, intimacy, and companionship of perceived peer relations were positively associated with social competence. The social support of perceived peer relations was the most influential factor affecting children's social competence.

In modern society, the optimal physical environment is constantly changing due to IT development, and it is provided with convenience. In this age environment, the children are growing up thinking that the value of community consciousness through relationship with others is not important in the social reality in which various ways and environments that can be done by themselves are succeeding. No matter how rapidly the world changes, a diverse learning environment is needed that establishes desirable human relationships and recognizes community consciousness and values. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of general children(elementary school 4th, 5th, and 6th graders) on the communication and peer relationship of the children participating in the archery experiential learning program, to emphasize the importance of physical activity programs, and also by analyzing the relationship between communication and improvement of peer relationship and to understand the effect of the archery experiential training learning which is one of exercise program. In order to verify the research problems, 30 experimental group and 30 comparative group were composed of 4th, 5th, and 6th grade elementary schools in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju metropolitan city. The experiment group was participated in the archery experiential learning program for a total of 10 sessions, once a week for 60 minutes, and conducted a questionnaire survey. In this study, we examined the effect of archery experiential learning program on improving children 's communication and peer relationship ability. Thus, it showed that archery experiential learning program can be one of the important educational methods to promote the healthy character and development of children.
The purpose of this study was (1) to examine the impact of chronic diseases on adolescent's peer relationships, and (2) to investigate the mediating effect of self-perceived health status and resilience on the relationship between their physical health states and peer relationships. The authors used the first-wave panel data from 'the Korean Children-Youth Panel Survey'. The sample included 2,351 first-grade of middle school students(boys 50.1%, girls 49.9%). Among the subjects examined 48.11% had chronic diseases. Using maximum likelihood estimation with Amos18(Arbuckle, 2009), SEM software, structural equation modeling was tested. The major findings were as follows : 1. Adolescents' chronic diseases had a negative impact on peer relationships. 2. Self-perceived health status and resilience had a mediating effect. This suggests that self-perceived health status and resilience could be protective factors when it comes to perceive peer relationships more positively for adolescents with chronic diseases. 3. Resilience was directly affected by self-perceived health status. This indicates that positive self-perception about their health status encourages adolescents with chronic diseases to be more resilient and to more positively affect their perception of their relationships with peers.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the effects of a peer gatekeeper training program on existential spiritual well-being, interpersonal relationship with friends, and suicide probability for middle school students. Methods: The participants were fifty students who were at a vocational middle school in D city from october 13, 2012 to november 10, 2012. To test the effects of the peer gatekeeper training program, the participants were divided into two groups in the way of matching distribution, an experimental group(24) and a control group(26). Data were analyzed by Chi-square test, t-test, and Fisher exact probability test using the SPSS/WIN 12.0 program. Results: After attending the peer gatekeeper training program, significant differences between the experimental group and the control group were found in existential spiritual well-being(t=2.80, p=.007) and interpersonal relationship with friends scores(t=2.67, p=.010). However, there was no statistically significant difference in suicide probability between the two groups. Conclusion: The results indicate that the peer gatekeeper training program enhance existential spiritual well-being and interpersonal relationship with friends of middle school students. Therefore, this program could be a good strategy that teachers and community mental health nurses can use for suicide prevention of middle school students.
Purpose. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between peer and parental factors and smoking behavior of adolescents in urban cities and to investigate whether there are gender differences. Methods. A stratified and random cluster sampling design was used to obtain a cross-sectional sample of high school students in two urban cities. The sample consisted of 512 Korean adolescents (256 boys and 256 girls) aged 15 to 18 (mean age 16.7$\pm$.58). Self-reported questionnaire consisted of adolescent smoking behavior, peer smoking and alcohol use, parental smoking and alcohol use, father-mother-peer relationships and perceived social support from peers and parents. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to examine the hypothesized model. Results. The findings showed that peer and parental factors accounted for $30.3\%$ of the variance in adolescent smoking and peer smoking was most strongly associated with adolescent smoking behavior (OR = 10.18). In addition, peer smoking (OR = 4.71), peer alcohol use (OR = 4.21), and peer relationships (OR = 1.03) were significantly associated with boys' smoking behavior. In girls, peer smoking (OR = 26.50) and parent smoking (OR = 5.48) were significantly associated with smoking behavior. Conclusions. Consistent with previous findings, peer smoking is a significant factor on adolescent smoking. Specifically, boys would be more influenced from peers than girls. Therefore, smoking prevention programs for adolescents might be focused on the social context such as, resisting to peer pressure and enhancing the self-efficacy to control.
