  • The purpose of this paper is to reinterpret and visualize Pappus' methods for trisecting the angle by utilizing the Nicomedes' conchoid and Apollonius' symptom of a hyperbola. In particular, we reinterpret the Pappus' three results which are the methods of hyperbola and circle, the trisection of the arc and focus and directrix of the hyperbola by 3 steps(analysis, construction, and proof) in the current middle school curriculum of Mathematics. Moreover, we visualize the construction of an hyperbola which is represented by means of an eccentricity.

  • In this study, we investigate the latus rectum, one of the geometric measures of the conics, as one of the ways in which learners harmonize the geometric and algebraic approaches to conics from a pedagogical point of view. We also introduce the conical curve of Biot as presented in 'The Discourse on the Latus Rectum in conics(2013)' by Takeshi Sugimoto and reinterpret it for visualization and use as teaching material. Therefore, we expect that the importance of mathematical concepts will be recognized in conics and students can experience geometry learning that is explored in the school field and have a positive effect in developing the power to apply even in the context of applied problems.

  • The purpose of this paper is to explain and reinterprets Apollonius' Symptoms on conic sections based on the current secondary curriculum of mathematics, present the historical background of Apollonius' Symptoms to teachers and students and introduce visualization proof of Apollonius' symptoms on a parabola, a hyperbola and an ellipse by a new method using dynamic geometry software(GSP) respectively.

  • The purpose of this paper is to reinterpret and visualize the trisection line construction of general angle in the Medieval Islam using conic sections. The geometry field in the current 2015 revised Mathematics curriculum deals mainly with the more contents of analytic geometry than logic geometry. This study investigated four trisecting problems shown by al-Haytham, Abu'l Jud, Al-Sijzī and Abū Sahl al-Kūhī in Medieval Islam as one of methods to achieve the harmony of analytic and logic geometry. In particular, we studied the above results by 3 steps(analysis, construction and proof) in order to reinterpret and visualize.

  • This research is devoted to investigate Omar Khayyām's geometric solution for the cubic equation using conic sections in the Medieval Islam as a useful alternative connecting logic geometry with analytic geometry at a secondary school. We also introduce Omar Khayyām's 25 cases classification of the cubic equation with all positive coefficients. Moreover we study 6 cases with 4 terms of 25 cubic equations and in particular we reinterpret geometric methods of solving in 2015 secondary Mathematics curriculum and visualize them by means of dynamic geometry software.

  • In order to propose ways to implement mathematical connection between algebra and geometry, this study reinterpreted and visualized the Khayyam's geometric method solving the cubic equations using two conic sections and the Al-Kāshi's method of constructing of angle trisection using a cubic equation. Khayyam's method is an example of a geometric solution to an algebraic problem, while Al-Kāshi's method is an example of an algebraic a solution to a geometric problem. The construction and property of conics were presented deductively by the theorem of "Stoicheia" and the Apollonius' symptoms contained in "Conics". In addition, I consider connections that emerged in the alternating process of algebra and geometry and present meaningful Implications for instruction method on mathematical connection.

  • This study aims to analyze the core contents of classical geomancy, and compromising the contemporary interpretation. Also it empahsizes the scientific aspects of reinterpretation. The cores are 'JiGi' and 'Balbok'(Positive change in fortune), followed by subjective methodology, which give a provision about right Pungsu place. Although there are weaknesses in terms of geomancy, scholars searching for classical geomancy have scientific ideas including traditional ecology and adative strategy. Traditional ecology with supported natural science becomes ecological science, and the adaptive strategy is to search for more physiologically comfortable place. These two reinterpretations give new perspective and subjects which lead to traditional view of nature or symbolic system. The subjects could have relationships with health or living a long life or heal.

  • The objective of this study was to analyze the characteristics of traditionality expressions at modernized Chinese restaurant in Hong Kong. As a case study, the study examined 12 modernized Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong. The gathered data were categorized and examined according to the ways of traditionality expressions, which included reproduction, transformation, and reinterpretation of traditional components. Each of the components was measured for the amount of traditional or modernity expression on a five-point scale. The five-point scoring system put an emphasis on tradition; 1 point was given to principal modernity(modernity: 90-100% + tradition: 0-10%), 2 points were given to principal modernity + auxiliary tradition(modernity: 70-90% + tradition: 10-30%), 3 points were given to the same ratio between tradition and modernity(modernity: 40-60% + tradition: 40-60%), 4 points were given to principal tradition + auxiliary modernity(modernity: 10-30% + tradition: 70-90%), and 5 points were given to principal tradition(modernity: 0-10% + tradition: 90-100%). The analysis performed according to those criteria and methodologies led to the following findings and conclusions: TM style, in which modernity was principal, usually did transformation and reinterpretation of traditionality. As for the design attributes of the styles, the TM style, they processed a majority of the spatial components as modern or reinterpretation of traditionality, which would be easily considered to be modern without careful observation, and applied a small amount of direct reproduction or transformation, which gives out a direct hint at traditionality, to attract more attention. Many of the spatial components did not express traditionality directly, expressing it indirectly or metaphorically. Traditionality was expressed in a small number of the spatial components, thus serving as a focus or impact point in the given space.

  • The aim of this study was to reveal the modern succession and reinterpretation of brand identity through the case of Balenciaga design presented by Demna Gvasalia through a review of the literature, design collection, and design review analysis. The design collection analysis was conducted from 2016 F/W to 2020 F/W, when Demna Gvasalia commenced responsibility for the Balenciaga collection. A total of 12 articles from overseas fashion magazines and newspapers were analyzed. A modern reinterpretation of Demna Gvasalia's Balenciaga design is as follows. First, he introduced luxury mode to reflect a sense of the times and introduced luxury street looks based on street and sports sensibilities, showing various styles without specific concepts. Second, by sharing universal sensibilities based on pragmatism, he proposed an easy-to-wear outfit for daily life to demonstrate the everydayness of fashion. Third, as a new exploration of traditional structural beauty, the design of Cristobal Balenciaga was reinterpreted through the conversion of items, overlapping outfits, and the introduction of high-tech technologies. Fourth, by taking a conceptual approach to fashion, he has renewed the spirit of experimentation and modernity shown by Cristobal Balenciaga. Fifth, with the presentation of a new icon, new styles of sneakers such as Triple S and Speed Runner are presented as new icons. He inherited the original mindset and creative approach of the house's founder, Cristobal Balenciaga, and reinterpreted it from a contemporary street sensibility and pragmatic perspective.
