  • Recurrent Neural Network technology that learns past patterns and predicts future patterns using technology for recognizing and classifying objects is being applied to various industries, economies, and languages. And research for practical use is making a lot of progress. However, research on the application of Recurrent Neural Networks for evaluating and predicting the safety of mechanical structures is insufficient. Accurate detection of external load applied to the outside is required to evaluate the safety of mechanical structures. Learning of Recurrent Neural Networks for this requires a large amount of load data. This study applied the Gated Recurrent Unit technique to examine the possibility of load learning and investigated the possibility of applying a stacked Auto Encoder as a way to secure load data. In addition, the usefulness of learning mechanical loads was analyzed with the Gated Recurrent Unit technique, and the basic setting of related functions and parameters was proposed to secure accuracy in the recognition and prediction of loads.

  • In this paper, an intelligent robust control system (IRCS) for precision tracking control of permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) servo drives is proposed. The IRCS comprises a recurrent wavelet-based interval type-2 fuzzy-neural-network controller (RWIT2FNNC), an RWIT2FNN estimator (RWIT2FNNE) and a compensated controller. The RWIT2FNNC combines the merits of a self-constructing interval type-2 fuzzy logic system, a recurrent neural network and a wavelet neural network. Moreover, it performs the structure and parameter-learning concurrently. The RWIT2FNNC is used as the main tracking controller to mimic the ideal control law (ICL) while the RWIT2FNNE is developed to approximate an unknown dynamic function including the lumped parameter uncertainty. Furthermore, the compensated controller is designed to achieve $L_2$ tracking performance with a desired attenuation level and to deal with uncertainties including approximation errors, optimal parameter vectors and higher order terms in the Taylor series. Moreover, the adaptive learning algorithms for the compensated controller and the RWIT2FNNE are derived by using the Lyapunov stability theorem to train the parameters of the RWIT2FNNE online. A computer simulation and an experimental system are developed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed IRCS. All of the control algorithms are implemented on a TMS320C31 DSP-based control computer. The simulation and experimental results confirm that the IRCS grants robust performance and precise response regardless of load disturbances and PMSM parameters uncertainties.

  • The synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) servo-drive system has highly nonlinear uncertainties owing to a convex construction effect. It is difficult for the linear control method to achieve good performance for the SynRM drive system. The nonlinear backstepping control system using upper bound with switching function is proposed to inhibit uncertainty action for controlling the SynRM drive system. However, this method uses a large upper bound with a switching function, which results in a large chattering. In order to reduce this chattering, a nonlinear backstepping control system using an adaptive law is proposed to estimate the lumped uncertainty. Since this method uses an adaptive law, it cannot achiever satisfactory performance. Therefore, a nonlinear backstepping control system using a reformed recurrent Hermite polynomial neural network with an adaptive law and an error estimated law is proposed to estimate the lumped uncertainty and to compensate the estimated error in order to enhance the robustness of the SynRM drive system. Further, the reformed recurrent Hermite polynomial neural network with two learning rates is derived according to an increment type Lyapunov function to speed-up the parameter convergence. Finally, some experimental results and a comparative analysis are presented to verify that the proposed control system has better control performance for controlling SynRM drive systems.

  • Exploring artificial intelligence and machine learning for nuclear safety has witnessed increased interest in recent years. To contribute to this area of research, a machine learning model capable of accurately predicting nuclear power plant response with minimal computational cost is proposed. To develop a robust machine learning model, the Best Estimate Plus Uncertainty (BEPU) approach was used to generate a database to train three models and select the best of the three. The BEPU analysis was performed by coupling Dakota platform with the best estimate thermal hydraulics code RELAP/SCDAPSIM/MOD 3.4. The Code Scaling Applicability and Uncertainty approach was adopted, along with Wilks' theorem to obtain a statistically representative sample that satisfies the USNRC 95/95 rule with 95% probability and 95% confidence level. The generated database was used to train three models based on Recurrent Neural Networks; specifically, Long Short-Term Memory, Gated Recurrent Unit, and a hybrid model with Long Short-Term Memory coupled to Convolutional Neural Network. In this paper, the System Engineering approach was utilized to identify requirements, stakeholders, and functional and physical architecture to develop this project and ensure success in verification and validation activities necessary to ensure the efficient development of ML meta-models capable of predicting of the nuclear power plant response.

  • Among many UNESCO world heritage sites in Korea, "Historic Village: Hahoe" is adjacent to Nakdong River and it is imperative to monitor the water level near the village in a bid to forecast floods and prevent disasters resulting from floods.. In this paper, we propose a recurrent neural network with multiple hidden layers to predict the water level near the village. For training purposes on the proposed model, we adopt the sixth-order error function to improve learning for rare events as well as to prevent overspecialization to abundant events. Multiple hidden layers with recurrent and crosstalk links are helpful in acquiring the time dynamics of the relationship between rainfalls and water levels. In addition, we chose hidden nodes with linear rectifier activation functions for training on multiple hidden layers. Through simulations, we verified that the proposed model precisely predicts the water level with high peaks during the rainy season and attains better performance than the conventional multi-layer perceptron.

  • In this paper, we design a terminal sliding mode controller based on self-recurrent wavelet neural network (SRWNN) for the second-order nonlinear systems with model uncertainties. The terminal sliding mode control (TSMC) method can drive the tracking errors to zero within finite time in comparison with the classical sliding mode control (CSMC) method. In addition, the TSMC method has advantages such as the improved performance, robustness, reliability and precision. We employ the SRWNN to approximate model uncertainties. The weights of SRWNN are trained by adaptation laws induced from Lyapunov stability theorem. Finally, we carry out simulations for Duffing system and the wing rock phenomena to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

  • This paper presents the robust control method using a self recurrent wavelet neural network (SRWNN) via adaptive backstepping design technique for stable walking of biped robots with unknown model uncertainties. The SRWNN, which has the properties such as fast convergence and simple structure, is used as the uncertainty observer of the biped robots. The adaptation laws for weights of the SRWNN and reconstruction error compensator are induced from the Lyapunov stability theorem, which are used for on-line controlling biped robots. Computer simulations of a five-link biped robot with unknown model uncertainties verify the validity of the proposed control system.

  • A robust positioning control system has been studied using a friction parameter observer and a recurrent fuzzy neural network based on the sliding model. To estimate a nonlinear friction parameters of the LuGre friction model, a dual friction model-based observer is introduced. In addition, an approximating method for a system uncertainty has been developed using a recurrent fuzzy neural network technique to improve positioning performance. Experimental results have been presented to validate the performance of a proposed intelligent compensation scheme.

  • This paper deals with a approximation and tracking control of hydraulic servo system using a real time recurrent neural networks (RTRN) with 2-dimensional iterative learning rule. And it was driven that 2-dimensional iterative learning rule in discrete time. In order to control the trajectory of position, two RTRN with same network architecture were used. Simulation results show that two RTRN using 2-D learning algorithm is able to approximate the plant output and desired trajectory to a very high degree of a accuracy respectively and the control algorithm using two same RTRN was very effective to control trajectory tracking of electro-hydraulic servo system.
