  • Let R and S be two commutative rings, J be an ideal of S and f : R → S be a ring homomorphism. The amalgamation of R and S along J with respect to f, denoted by R ⋈f J, is the special subring of R × S defined by R ⋈f J = {(a, f(a) + j) | a ∈ R, j ∈ J}. In this paper, we study some basic properties of a special kind of R ⋈f J-modules, called the amalgamation of M and N along J with respect to , and defined by M ⋈ JN := {(m, (m) + n) | m ∈ M and n ∈ JN}, where  : M → N is an R-module homomorphism. The new results generalize some known results on the amalgamation of rings and the duplication of a module along an ideal.

  • Let f be a meromorphic function of finite order ρ with few poles in the sense Sλ(r, f) := O(rλ+ε) + S(r, f), where λ < ρ and ε ∈ (0, ρ - λ), and let g(f) := Σkj=1bj(z)f(kj)(z + cj) be a linear delay-differential polynomial of f with small meromorphic coefficients bj in the sense Sλ(r, f). The zero distribution of fn(g(f))s - b0 is considered in this paper, where b0 is a small function in the sense Sλ(r, f).

  • Let R be a commutative ring with unity. If f(x) is a zero-divisor polynomial such that $f(x)=c_f f_1(x)$ with $c_f{\in}R$ and $f_1(x)$ is not zero-divisor, then $c_f$ is called an annihilating content for f(x). In this case $Ann(f)=Ann(c_f )$. We defined EM-rings to be rings with every zero-divisor polynomial having annihilating content. We showed that the class of EM-rings includes integral domains, principal ideal rings, and PP-rings, while it is included in Armendariz rings, and rings having a.c. condition. Some properties of EM-rings are studied and the zero-divisor graphs ${\Gamma}(R)$ and ${\Gamma}(R[x])$ are related if R was an EM-ring. Some properties of annihilating contents for polynomials are extended to formal power series rings.

  • We report results on metastable CuCo ribbons at low Co contents (2 and 10 at %), which were prepared by conventional melt-spinning technique and subsequent annealing. The properties of these materials cannot consistently be described by those of an assembly of superparamagnetic single-domain particles. Magnetic measurements related to magnetic dynamics reveal spin-glass-like properties. Especially, we find very slow nonequilibrium relaxation processes in Co10Cu90, which depend on prehistory, when probing the relaxation of the resistivity. The results are clear evidence for frustrated interaction effects due to magnetic couplings between Co clusters or precipitates in these alloys.

  • Let f:R.rarw.R be a continuous function on the real line R, and denote the n-th iterate of f by f$^{n}$ :f$^{1}$=f and f$^{n}$ =f.f$^{n-1}$ for n>1. A point x.mem.R is a periodic point of f of period k>0 if f$^{k}$ (x)=x but f$^{i}$ (x).neq.x for all 01, then it must also have a fixed point, by the intermediate Theorem. Also the question has an intriguing answer which was found by ths Russian mathematician Sharkovky [6] in 1964.

  • The flow around a circular cylinder which oscillates rotationally with a relatively high forcing frequency has been investigated experimentally using flow visualization and hot-wire measurements. Dominant parameters are Reynolds number (Re), oscillation amplitude $({\theta}_A)$, and frequency ratio $F_R=f_f/f_n$, where $f_f$ is the forcing frequency and $f_n$ is the natural frequency of vortex shedding. Experiments were carried out under the conditions of $Re=4.14{\times}10^3,\;{\theta}_A={\pi}/6$, and $0{\leq}F_R{\leq}2$. The effect of frequency ratio $F_R$ on the flow structure of wake was evaluated by measuring wake velocity profile and spectral analysis of hot-wire signal. Depending on the frequency ratio $F_R$, the cylinder wake has 5 different flow regimes. The vortex formation length and vortex shedding frequency are changed significantly before and after the lock-on regime. The drag coefficient was reduced under the condition of $F_R<1.0$ and the maximum drag reduction is about 33% at $F_R=0.8$. However, the drag is increased as $F_R$ increases beyond $F_R=1.0$. This active flow control method can be effective in aerodynamic applications, if the forcing parameters are selected optimally.

  • Let 𝓐 be the collection of analytic functions f defined in 𝔻 := {ξ ∈ ℂ : |ξ| < 1} such that f(0) = f'(0) - 1 = 0. Using the concept of subordination (≺), we define $$S^*_{\ell}\;:=\;\{f{\in}A:\;\frac{{\xi}f^{\prime}({\xi})}{f({\xi})}{\prec}{\Phi}_{\ell}(\xi)=1+{\sqrt{2}{\xi}}+{\frac{{\xi}^2}{2}},\;{\xi}{\in}{\mathbb{D}}\}$$, where the function 𝚽(ξ) maps 𝔻 univalently onto the region Ω bounded by the limacon curve (9u2 + 9v2 - 18u + 5)2 - 16(9u2 + 9v2 - 6u + 1) = 0. For 0 < r < 1, let 𝔻r := {ξ ∈ ℂ : |ξ| < r} and 𝒢 be some geometrically defined subfamily of 𝓐. In this paper, we find the largest number 𝜌 ∈ (0, 1) and some function f0 ∈ 𝒢 such that for each f ∈ 𝒢 𝓛f (𝔻r) ⊂ Ω for every 0 < r ≤ 𝜌, and $${\mathcal{L} _{f_0}}({\partial}{\mathbb{D}_{\rho})\;{\cap}\;{\partial}{\Omega}_{\ell}\;{\not=}\;{\emptyset}$$, where the function 𝓛f : 𝔻 → ℂ is given by $${\mathcal{L}}_f({\xi})\;:=\;{\frac{{\xi}f^{\prime}(\xi)}{f(\xi)}},\;f{\in}{\mathcal{A}}$$. Moreover, certain graphical illustrations are provided in support of the results discussed in this paper.

  • Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. fragariae is a fungal pathogen causing strawberry wilt disease. The random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) of intergenic spacer (IGS) region of rDNA were used to identify genetic variation among 22 F. oxysporum f. sp. fragariae isolates. All isolates could be distinguished from each other by RAPD analysis and RFLP of 2.6 kb amplified with primer CNS1 and CNL12 for IGS region of rDNA. Cluster analysis using UPGMA showed eight distinct clusters based on the banding patterns obtained from RAPD and rDNA RFLP. These results indicate that F. oxysporum f. sp. fragariae isolates are genetically distinct from each other, There was a high level genetic variation among F. oxysporum f. sp. fragariae.
