  • We present a study of exciton relaxation in GaAs/AIGaAs quantum well structures by using time-resolved photoluminescence techniques.03 observed that light-hole exciton has a longer decay time than heavy-hole exciton, which results from the difference of the exciton population factor. We considered the thermal population time to explain the observed exciton dynamics.

  • C-Reactive protein (CRP), which is an 118 kDa pentameric protein, was secreted by the liver is an important biomarker for coronary disease, hypertension and inflammation. In this study, a method for CRP detection exploiting quantum dot (Qdot)-antibody conjugate was developed according to an indirect-competitive immunosensing protocol. For this purpose, a streptavidin-bound $Qdot_{605}$ was linked with a separately prepared biotinylated monoclonal antirat CRP antibody to produce a Qdot-antibody conjugate. The immunosensing was performed at 0.1 and 20 nM of the coating antigen and conjugate, respectively. The current method was found very sensitive in CRP detection, judging from the concentration-dependent fluorescence emission.

  • Theta functions are the sections of line bundles on a complex torus. Noncommutative versions of theta functions have appeared as theta vectors and quantum theta operators. In this paper we describe a super version of theta vectors and quantum theta operators. This is the natural unification of Manin's result on bosonic operators, and the author's previous result on fermionic operators.

  • Let $\mathbb{G}$ be a von Neumann algebraic locally compact quantum group, in the sense of Kustermans and Vaes. In this paper, as a consequence of a notion of amenability for actions of Lau algebras, we show that $\hat{\mathbb{G}}$, the dual of $\mathbb{G}$, is co-amenable if and only if there is a state $m{\in}L^{\infty}(\hat{\mathbb{G}})^*$ which is invariant under a left module action of $L^1(\mathbb{G})$ on $L^{\infty}(\hat{\mathbb{G}})^*$. This is the quantum group version of a result by Stokke [17]. We also characterize amenable action of Lau algebras by several properties such as fixed point property. This yields in particular, a fixed point characterization of amenable groups and H-amenable representation of groups.

  • A hydrophobic ionic liquid including an amino moiety ([DiOcAPmim][NTf2]) was synthesized. Its extraction behaviors towards Pd(II), Ru(III), Rh(III) were investigated in nitric acid aqueous solution as a function of contact time, effect of concentration of nitric acid, effect of temperature, and effect of co-existing metal ions. The extraction kinetics of Pd(II) was fairly fast and extraction equilibrium can be attained within only 5 min under the [HNO3] = 2.05 M. When [HNO3]< 1 M, the extraction percentage of Pd(II), Ru(III), Rh(III) were all above 80%. When [HNO3] reached 2 M, all of the extraction percentage decreased and in an order of Pd(II)>Ru(III)>Rh(III). When [HNO3]> 2 M, the extraction performance gradually recovered. The effect of temperature can slightly affect the extraction performance of Pd(II). Furthermore, in simulated high-level liquid waste, [DiOcAPmim][NTf2] showed a better preference towards Pd(II) under the interference of various other co-existing metal ions.

  • Proton detected Heteronuclear Multiple Quantum Coherence (HMQC) and Heteronuclear Single Quantum Coherence (HSQC) essentially provide the same information - correlation of the chemical shift of the proton to J-coupled hetero nuclei such as $^{13}C$ or $^{15}N$ nuclei. This paper is a practical note for the students who ask which one is better and which methods they use routinely. Artifact suppression using phase cycling and gradient pulses are discussed.

  • When it comes to Lorentz symmetry violation, there are generally two approaches to studying noncommutative field theory: 1) conventional fields are equivalent to noncommutative fields; however, symmetry groups are larger. 2) The symmetry group is the same as conventional standard model's symmetry group; but fields here are written based on the Seiberg-Witten map. Here by adopting the first approach, we aim to connect Lorentz violation coefficients with noncommutative parameters and compare the results with the second approach's results. Through the experimental values obtained for the Lorentz-violating parameters, we obtain a limit of noncommutative symmetry.

  • The electrical and photovoltaic properties of single junction silicon quantum dot solar cells are investigated. A prototype solar cell with an effective area of 4.7 $mm^2$ showed an open circuit voltage of 394 mV and short circuit current density of 0.062 $mA/cm^2$. A diode model with series and shunt resistances has been applied to characterize the dark current-voltage data. The photocurrent of the quantum-dot solar cell was found to be strongly dependent on the applied voltage bias, which can be understood by consideration of the conduction mechanism of the activated carriers in the quantum dot imbedded material.
