A Performance Comparison of Extended and Unscented Kalman Filters for INS/GPS Tightly Coupled Approach (INS/GPS 강결합 기법에 대한 EKF 와 UKF의 성능 비교)

  • This paper deals with INS/GPS tightly coupled integration algorithms using extend Kalman filter (EKF) and unscented Kalman filter (UKF). In the tightly coupled approach, nonlinear pseudorange measurement models are used for the INS/GPS integration Kalman filter. Usually, an EKF is applied for this task, but it may diverge due to poor functional linearization of the nonlinear measurement. The UKF approximates a distribution about the mean using a set of calculated sigma points and achieves an accurate approximation to at least second-order. We introduce the generalized scaled unscented transformation which modifies the sigma points themselves rather than the nonlinear transformation. The generalized scaled method is used to transform the pseudo range measurement of the tightly coupled approach. To compare the performance of the EKF- and UKF-based tightly coupled approach, real van test and simulation have been carried out with feedforward and feedback indirect Kalman filter forms. The results show that the UKF and EKF have an identical performance in case of the feedback filter form, but the superiority of the UKF is demonstrated in case of the feedforward filer form.

Syntheses and Properties of the High-Tc Superconductive Bi_{2-x}Mo_xSr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_y$ System

  • The superconducting properties have been studied for high-Tc superconductors of the $Bi_{2-x}Mo_xSr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_y$ system (x = 0.03-0.30). The crystal structure is pseudo tetragonal with the average lattice parameters a = 5.38 ${\AA}$, b = 5.44 ${\AA}$ and c = 30.6 ${\AA}$. All samples exhibit superconductivity with Tc offset at 79 K and Tc onset at 90-115 K. The Tc onset point decreases with increasing x, but the Tc offset points are nearly the same for all samples. Scanning electron micrographs show a special growth behavior of the grains with a plate shape. It is suggested that the decrease in Tc onset points with substitution of Mo for Bi is due to the decrease in lattice parameters and to the p-orbital of Mo. It is concluded that Mo does not play a crucial role in the superconducting transition of the $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_y$ system.

Lightweight Algorithm for Digital Twin based on Diameter Measurement using Singular-Value-Decomposition (특이값 분해를 이용한 치수측정 기반 디지털 트윈 알고리즘 경량화)

  • In the machine vision inspection equipment, diameter measurement is important process in inspection of cylindrical object. However, machine vision inspection equipment requires complex algorithm processing such as camera distortion correction and perspective distortion correction, and the increase in processing time and cost required for precise diameter measurement. In this paper, we proposed the algorithm for diameter measurement of cylindrical object using the laser displacement sensor. In order to fit circle for given four input outer points, grid search algorithms using root-mean-square error and mean-absolute error are applied and compared. To solve the limitations of the grid search algorithm, we finally apply the singular-value-decomposition based circle fitting algorithm. In order to compare the performance of the algorithms, we generated the pseudo data of the outer points of the cylindrical object and applied each algorithm. As a result of the experiment, the grid search using root-mean-square error confirmed stable measurement results, but it was confirmed that real-time processing was difficult as the execution time was 10.8059 second. The execution time of mean-absolute error algorithm was greatly improved as 0.3639 second, but there was no weight according to the distance, so the result of algorithm is abnormal. On the other hand, the singular-value-decomposition method was not affected by the grid and could not only obtain precise detection results, but also confirmed a very good execution time of 0.6 millisecond.

Control Gain Optimization for Mobile Robots Using Neural Networks and Genetic Algorithms (신경회로망과 유전알고리즘에 기초한 이동로봇의 제어 이득 최적화)

  • In order to move mobile robots to desired locations in a minimum time, optimal control problems have to be solved; however, their analytic solutions are almost impossible to obtain due to robot nonlinear equations. This paper presents a method to get optimal control gains of mobile robots using genetic algorithms. Since the optimal control gains of mobile robots depend on the initial conditions, the initial condition range is discretized to form some grid points, and genetic algorithms are applied to provide the optimal control gains for the corresponding grid points. The optimal control gains for general initial conditions may be obtained by use of neural networks. So the optimal control gains and the corresponding grid points are used to train neural networks. The trained neural networks can supply pseudo-optimal control gains. Finally simulation studies have been conducted to verify the effectiveness of the method presented in this paper.

Developing a method of processing terrestrial laser scan data for efficient extraction of tunnel cross sections (효율적인 터널 내공 단면 추출을 위한 지상 레이저 스캔 자료 처리기법 개발)

  • The present study is about an efficient extraction of tunnel cross sections from huge point cloud achieved by a terrestrial laser scanner. A method, using a hash-based data structure, is introduced, by which point clouds, potentially composing cross sections, are extracted along a tunnel center line. The center line is estimated by linking points which are drawn in the middle of pseudo cross sections based on the hash-based data structure. Point clouds of a same thickness are extracted at a same interval along the center line. In result, it took less than 3 seconds and 124 MB of memory to extract, out of the 7.5 million points, the point clouds of 1 m interval and 0.1 m thickness. A manual operation, however, was needed to fix the outliers on the center line and to select both start and end points on it.

Effect of Constitutive Material Models on Seismic Response of Two-Story Reinforced Concrete Frame

  • This paper focuses on the finite element (FE) response sensitivity and reliability analyses considering smooth constitutive material models. A reinforced concrete frame is modeled for FE sensitivity analysis followed by direct differentiation method under both static and dynamic load cases. Later, the reliability analysis is performed to predict the seismic behavior of the frame. Displacement sensitivity discontinuities are observed along the pseudo-time axis using non-smooth concrete and reinforcing steel model under quasi-static loading. However, the smooth materials show continuity in response sensitivity at elastic to plastic transition points. The normalized sensitivity results are also used to measure the relative importance of the material parameters on the structural responses. In FE reliability analysis, the influence of smoothness behavior of reinforcing steel is carefully noticed. More efficient and reasonable reliability estimation can be achieved by using smooth material model compare with bilinear material constitutive model.

  • A goal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging is reproducing a spatial map of the effective spin density from the measured Fourier coefficients of a specimen. The imaging procedure can be done by inverse Fourier transformation or backward fast Fourier transformation if the data are sampled on a regular grid in frequency space; however, it is still a challenging question how to reconstruct an image from a finite set of Fourier data on irregular points in k-space. In this paper, we describe some mathematical and numerical properties of imaging techniques from non-uniform MR data using the pseudo-inverse or the diagonal-inverse weight matrix. This note is written as an easy guide to readers interested in the non-uniform MRI techniques and it basically follows the ideas given in the paper by Greengard-Lee-Inati [10, 11].

  • The aim of this paper is to prove convergence of implicit iteration process to a common fixed point for a finite family of strong successive $\Phi$-pseudocontractive mappings. The results presented in this paper extend and improve the corresponding results of S. S. Chang [On the convergence of implicit iteration process with error for a finite family of asymptotically nonexpansive mappings, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 313(2006), 273-283], M. O. Osilike[Implicit iteration process for common fixed points of a finite finite family of strictly pseudocontractive maps, Appl. Math. Comput. 189(2) (2007), 1058-1065].

  • A new Pareto-optimal design algorithm, requiring least computational work, is proposed for a single phase AC solenoid actuator with multi-design-objectives: maximizing holding force and minimizing eddy current loss simultaneously. In the algorithm, the design space is successively reduced by a suitable factor, as iteration repeats, with the center of pseudo-optimal point. At each iteration, the objective functions are approximated to a simple second-order response surface with the CCD sampling points generated within the reduced design space, and Pareto-optimal solutions are obtained by applying($1+{\lambda}$) evolution strategy with the fitness values of Pareto strength.

  • Chaotic dynamical systems, preferably on a Cantor-like space with some arithmetic operations are considered as good pseudo-random number generators. There are many definitions of chaos, of which Devaney-chaos and pos itive topological entropy seem to be the strongest. Let $A=\{0,1,{\dots},p-1\}$. We define a continuous map on $A^{\mathbb{Z}}$ using addition with a carry, in combination with the shift map. We show that this map gives rise to a dynamical system with positive entropy, which is also Devaney-chaotic: i.e., it is transitive, sensitive and has a dense set of periodic points.
