This study was designed to examine the influence of gratitude enhancement program on preschoolers' aggression perceived by their teacher and mother. The subjects in this study were 40 four-year-old children in kindergarten in U city. This study employed a pre/post-test control group design, and so all subjects were assigned to an experimental group(gratitude enhancement program) or comparative group(general education program according to the year curriculum). Preschoolers' aggression was measured by the teacher and mother of the subjects and the collected data were analyzed by independent and paired t-test. This study also computed Cohen's d to estimate effect size of gratitude enhancement program on preschoolers' aggression. The findings of this study were as follows. Firstly, gratitude enhancement program and general education program were all effective in reducing preschoolers' aggression(aggression against things, verbal aggression and total aggression) perceived by their teacher except of aggression against others. But gratitude enhancement program was more effective than general education program in reducing these sort of aggression. Meanwhile, only gratitude enhancement program was effective in reducing preschoolers' aggression against others. Secondly, gratitude enhancement program was effective in reducing preschoolers' aggression(aggression against things, aggression against others, verbal aggression and total aggression).

In this study, mothers of 205 4- to 5-year-old preschoolers responded to aggression episodes of Werner et al. (2006); preschoolers' teachers responded to the Preschool Social Behavior Scale (Crick et al., 1997). Results showed, (1) boys exhibited more overt and relational aggression. (2) In overt aggression episodes, mothers used encouragement to boys and rule violation responses to girls; in relational aggression episodes, mothers used encouragement and power assertion responses to girls. (3) Mothers' power assertion about overt aggression related negatively with preschoolers' overt aggressive behaviors; mothers' discussion about relational aggression related positively with preschoolers' overt aggressive behaviors. Implications of these findings for the mothers' responses by aggression types were discussed in order in better understand preschooler's aggressive behaviors.
Household chaos, represented by high levels of disorganization and instability in the home, has been linked with suboptimal outcomes for preschoolers. The aim of this study was to examine the roles that sleep problems and executive function play in the association between household chaos and preschoolers' aggression and prosocial behavior. The sample for the study consisted of 420 preschoolers and their mothers. The mothers provided reports on the level of chaos in the home and their preschoolers' sleep problems, executive function, and social behavior, including aggression and prosocial behavior. The data was analyzed using structural equation modeling. When preschoolers' sleep problems and executive function were included in the model as mediators, the results indicated that household chaos did not have direct effects on preschoolers' aggression and prosocial behavior. Such effects were instead serially mediated by preschoolers' sleep problems and executive function, respectively. The higher the degree of household chaos, the more preschoolers displayed sleep problems and deficits in executive function, resulting in more aggression and less prosocial behavior. The findings from this study emphasize the significance of reducing household chaos in order to reduce preschoolers' aggression and promote prosocial behavior. They also underscore the need to identify additional variables that mediate the impact of household chaos on preschoolers' social outcomes.
The present study examines the sex differences in 5-year-old preschoolers' aggression according to the type of aggression (overt, relational) and the effect of components of social information processing (SIP : interpretation, goal clarification, response generation, response evaluation) and emotional factors (emotionality, emotional knowledge, emotion regulation) on their aggression. The subjects were 112 5-year-olds (56 boys, 56 girls) and their 11 teachers recruited from 9 day-care centers in Seoul and Kyung-Ki province. Each child's SIP and emotional knowledge were individually assessed with pictorial tasks and teachers reported on children's aggression, emotionality, and emotion regulation by questionnaires. Results indicated that there was a significant sex difference only in the preschoolers' overt aggression. Overtly aggressive response generation in SIP was the strongest predictor of preschoolers' overt aggression while anger of negative emotionality in emotional factors was the strongest predictor of preschoolers' relational aggression.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of maternal rejective parenting behaviors and preschoolers' aggression and social skills on preschoolers' exclusion by peers. Subjects were 91 5- to 6-year-old preschoolers(49 boys, 42 girls) and their mothers. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and stepwised multiple regression analysis. The major findings are summarized as follows: (1) preschoolers' exclusion by peers was positively correlated with maternal rejective parenting behaviors and preschoolers' aggression. On the other hand, preschoolers' exclusion by peers was negatively correlated with preschoolers' social skills. (2) The most influential factor on preschoolers' exclusion by peers was preschoolers' cooperative behaviors, and the next influential factor on preschoolers' exclusion by peers was maternal rejective parenting behaviors. In conclusion, maternal rejective parenting behaviors and preschoolers' social skills influence preschoolers' exclusion by peers.
Maternal beliefs about preschoolers' displays of aggression and social withdrawal and the extent to which their strategies for dealing with these behaviors can be predicted from beliefs were examined. And the extent to which maternal childrearing behavior and preschoolers' social problematic behaviors can be predicted from beliefs. 202 mothers of 5-year-old(114 boys; 88 girls) were presented with descriptions of hypothetical incidents of peer-directed aggression and social withdrawal. Maternal beliefs were different according to kinds of problematic behaviors. Thus most mothers attributed preschoolers' aggression to situational factors, social withdrawal to disposition. Mothers felt embarrassed about aggression and concerned about social withdrawal. The power assertive strategies were more used for dealing with aggression than social withdrawal. The choice of strategies for dealing with these behaviors and maternal childrearing behavior were related to maternal beliefs. Also preschoolers' social problematic behaviors were effected from maternal beliefs and childrearing behavior.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of a psychomotorik program on the self concept, sociability and aggression in preschoolers. Method: The research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. There were 34 subjects in the experimental group and 34 in control group among 68 preschoolers in a nursery in the city of G. The experimental group received an 12 weeks psychomotorik. The out come variables were measured before and after the program. Collected data were analyzed by Fisher's exact test, t-test, $X^2$. test, repeated measures ANOVA & ANCOVA using the SPSS 15.0 program. Result: After psychomotorik program, self concept, sociability were increased and aggression decreased in the experimental group. Conclusion: Psychomotorik program was effective in increasing self concept and sociability and decreasing aggression. The program should be effective in psychological development of preshoolers.
This study evaluated Kinetic Family Drawing according to preschoolers' external problem behavior. To achieve this, 120 preschoolers who were four or five years old were investigated and data were statistically analyzed using mean, and chi square analysis with the SPSS Win 13.0 program. The preschoolers' family drawings were analyzed by using the method in Kinetic Family Drawing(Burns & Kaufman, 1972). First, regarding characteristics, the preschoolers in the aggression group rotated certain person or drew the figure from behind, the preschoolers in the delinquency group drew long arms, the figure from behind, and angular forms. Second, regarding action depicted, the preschoolers in both aggression and delinquency groups perceived the lower activity level of their fathers, dangerous situations, and excluded family interaction. Third, regarding symbols, the preschoolers in the delinquency group drew objects such as balls. Finally, regarding drawing style, the preschoolers in the delinquency group drew edges and underline.
The purpose of this research is to develop and evaluate an emotional intervention program for maladaptive preschoolers. The emotional intervention program focused on nurturing the ability to express emotions in healthy ways and how to empathize with others while the preschoolers perceives negative emotions. The participants in this study were nineteen preschoolers, residing in S city. Nineteen subjects were assigned to an experimental group practicing an emotional intervention program. The preschoolers participated in 8-session programs once a week over the course of eight weeks. Descriptive statistics, paired t-test and hierarchical cluster analysis were performed. The results of this study were as follows. First, there were significant differences between posttests and pretests results. The results showed a decrease in maladaptive preschooler's problematic behaviors and aggressive strategies. The maladaptive preschoolers showed more representations of anxiety, avoidance/withdrawal, and deregulated/aggression. In addition the results also showed a decrease in preschooler's representations of anxiety, avoidance/withdrawal, and deregulated/aggression.
Objective: This study examined the relationships among sleep problems, executive function and social behavior during the preschool period. In addition, the mediating role of executive function between sleep problems and social behavior was investigated. Methods: A total of 304 preschool children participated in this study. The data were collected through maternal reports. Results: First, preschoolers' sleep problems were found to be significantly related to overt aggression and prosocial behavior. Second, preschoolers with sleep problems displayed lower levels of executive function. Third, preschoolers' executive function was significantly associated with social behavior. Lastly, preschoolers' executive function fully mediated the relationship between sleep problems and overt aggression, and between sleep problems and prosocial behavior. That is, preschoolers' sleep problems had effects on overt aggression and prosocial behavior, only through the effects on executive function. Conclusion: This study contributes to the sleep literature by examining the role of executive function and emphasizes the importance of forming a healthy sleep habit during the preschool period.
