  • This paper describes when a partial isometry satisfies several weak normal properties. Topics treated include quasi-normality, subnormality, hyponormality, p-hyponormality (p > 0), w-hyponormality, paranormality, normaloidity, spectraloidity, the von Neumann property and Weyl's theorem.

  • The aim of this paper is twofold. Firstly, we introduce the concept of semi-partial isometry in a Banach algebra and carry out a comparison and a classification study for this concept. In particular, we show that in the context of $C^*$-algebras this concept coincides with the notion of partial isometry. Our results encompass several earlier ones concerning partial isometries in Hilbert spaces, Banach spaces and $C^*$-algebras. Finally, we study the notion of (m, p)-semi partial isometries.

  • In this note we consider the monoid $\mathcal{PODI}_n$ of all monotone partial permutations on $\{1,{\ldots},n\}$ and its submonoids $\mathcal{DP}_n$, $\mathcal{POI}_n$ and $\mathcal{ODP}_n$ of all partial isometries, of all order-preserving partial permutations and of all order-preserving partial isometries, respectively. We prove that both the monoids $\mathcal{POI}_n$ and $\mathcal{ODP}_n$ are quotients of bilateral semidirect products of two of their remarkable submonoids, namely of extensive and of co-extensive transformations. Moreover, we show that $\mathcal{PODI}_n$ is a quotient of a semidirect product of $\mathcal{POI}_n$ and the group $\mathcal{C}_2$ of order two and, analogously, $\mathcal{DP}_n$ is a quotient of a semidirect product of $\mathcal{ODP}_n$ and $\mathcal{C}_2$.

  • Let $\Gamma$ be a discrete subgroup of hyperbolic isometries acting on the Poincare disc $B^m, m \geq 2$. The discrete group $\Gamma$ acts properly discontinously in $B^m$, and acts on $\partial B^m$ as a group of conformal homemorphisms, but need not act properly discontinously on $\partial B^m$.

  • Let (M, g) be a complete Riemannian manifold and G be a closed (connected) subgroup of the group of isometries of M. Then the union ${\MM}$ of all principal orbits is an open dense subset of M and the quotient map ${\MM} \longrightarrow {\BB} := {\MM}/G$ becomes a Riemannian submersion for the restriction of g to ${\MM}$ which gives the quotient metric on ${\BB}$. Namely, B is a singular (complete) Riemannian space such that $\partialB$ consists of non-principal orbits.

  • Graph C*-algebras C*(E) are the universal C*-algebras generated by partial isometries satisfying the Cuntz-Krieger relations determined by directed graphs E, and it is known that a simple graph C*-algebra is extremally rich in sense that it contains enough extreme consider a sufficient condition on a graph for which the associated graph algebra(possibly nonsimple) is extremally rich. We also present examples of nonextremally rich prime graph C*-algebras with finitely many ideals and with real rank zero.

  • Although the study of the limit points of discrete groups of M$\ddot{o}$bius transformations has been a fertile area for many decades, there are some very natural topological properties of the limit points which appear not to have been previously examined. Let $\Gamma$ be a nonelementary discrete group of hyperbolic isometries acting on the Poincare disc $B^m, m \geq 2$, and let $p \in \partial B^m$ be a limit point of $\Gamma$. By a neighborhood of p, we will always mean an open neighborhood of p in $\partial B^m$.

  • An ideal right-angled pentagon in hyperbolic 4-space ${\mathbb{H}}^4$ is a sequence of oriented geodesics ($L_1,{\ldots},L_5$) such that $L_i$ intersects $L_{i+1},i=1,{\ldots},4$, perpendicularly in ${\mathbb{H}}^4$ and the initial point of $L_1$ coincides with the endpoint of $L_5$ in the boundary at infinity ${\partial}{\mathbb{H}}^4$. We study the geometry of such pentagons and the various possible augmentations and prove identities for the associated quaternion half side lengths as well as other geometrically defined invariants of the configurations. As applications we look at two-generator groups ${\langle}A,B{\rangle}$ of isometries acting on hyperbolic 4-space such that A is parabolic, while B and AB are loxodromic.
