Characteristics mode analysis for the finite slotted parallel-plate waveguide as a leaky wave antenna structure (유전체로 채워진 유한한 슬롯을 가지는 평행평판 도파관 누설파 안테나 구조에 대한 특성 모드 해석)

  • A characteristic mode analysis of parallel-plate waveguide with finite number of slot as a leaky wav eantenna structure is considered for calculating the characteristics currents, the characteristic patterns, radiatin patterns, and the complex propagation constants. For the cases of 1, 11 and 29 slots, numericl resutls for the equivalent magnetic currents, the radiatin patterns, and thecomplex propagation constants are computed and compared with those obtained by use of the conventional method of moments. Good correspondence between them is observed.

  • Spatial green's functions for a horizontal magnetic dipole in a parallel-plate waveguide are expressed in an improved closed-form with two-level approximation of the spectral green's functions. The results evaluated by the present closed-from green's function with two-level approximation are compard with those obtained the previous closed-form green's function with one-level approximation. The present results are observed to be more acurate than the previous results over wide frequency range as well as whole spatial range. The combination of the present closed-form green's functions and the moment mehtod may help in analyzing the problem of EMP coupling through an aperture into a parallel-plat waveguide and the microstrip slot antenna with a reflector.

  • In this paper, the electromagnetic coupling through a slit in a flanged parallel-plate waveguide with a conducting strip is studied. The coupled integro-differential equations for the electric field over the slit and the induced current over the strip are derived and solved by use of the method of moments. The characteristics of some types of maximum coupling phenomena are investigated from the examinations of the variations of the equivalent slit admittance and the coupled power against various parameters such as the location of conducting strip, operating frequency, and strip length.

  • A parallel-plate waveguide with a slit in its upper plate is analysed. An integral equation is formulated for the equivalent magnetic current and solved by the conventional moment method. Numerical results are presented for the magnetic current, reflection and transmission coefficients, a normalized radiated power in the slit, and equivalent circuit parameters. The equivalent circuit parameters are an useful quantities in the study of the E-plane coupled microstrip antennas.

  • This paper discusses how to change the electromagnetic waves' property in the cut-off causing discontinuity existing in the guiding structure of the RF passive component by using the metamaterial and elaborates on its principle. Particularly, we find and explain, from the viewpoint of electromagnetics and circuit theories, the so-called tunneling condition that when the segment with an extremely narrow cross-section leading to blockage in the parallel-plate waveguide is given the ENZ(Epsilon Near Zero) for its filling material, the wave starts to propagate through the segment. The analysis method as a transmission-line theory taking the discontinuity and material change into consideration is shown valid through the comparison with other methods for analyzing parallel-plate waveguides, and provides the illustration of the S-parameters and impedance describing the characteristics of the tunneling.

  • Dielectrically filled parallel-plate waveguide with finite number of periodic slots in its upper plate as a leaky wave antenna is analysed for E-polarization case. The integro-differential equation whose unknown is the slot equivalent magnetic current over the slot is formulated and solved by use of Galerkin's method. From knowledge of the equivalent magnetic current, the propagation constant and radiation pattern for the finite periodic structure are determined and compared with the results of the infinite case. Good correspondence between them is observed.

  • The problem of a plane wave impinging upon a semi-infinite paralle-plate waveguide is investigated. The interior fields can be analyzed by converting the initial field into vaveguide modes. Kirchhoff approximation is usually made at the waveguide aperture in the literature. In this paper, a modified approximation is made using the Uniform Gemetrical Theory of Diffraction(UTD). Numerical results show excellent agreement between UTD-supplemented mode-matching solution and UTD solution.

The homogeneous linear equation whose unknown is the surface current density over the conducting strip is formulated, from which the complex propagation constant is calculated and compared with the previous results.   • In this paper, the problem of electromagnetic coupling between a slit fed by a flanged parallel-plate waveguide (FPPW) and a nearby conducting strip parallel to the slit is studied as a simplified problem for a near-field scanning microscopy (NSM). The characteristics of the FPPW are investigated from the results for the variations of the equivalent slit admittance, the reactive powers near the slit inside and outside the FPPW, the magnitude and phase of the voltage reflection coefficient of the TEM wave. The performance of the proposed apparatus as an NSM is tested by examining the effects of various geometrical parameters such as guide height, slit width, strip width, distance between slit and strip, and the ratio of slit width to guide height on the magnitude and phase of the voltage reflection coefficient of the TEM wave. From the results for the voltage reflection coefficient against the strip offset from the slit, it is found that a slit in the FPPW with smaller guide height gives higher scanning resolution and the phase variation is more sensitive than the magnitude variation.
