Achievements of Nursing Students among Simulation and Traditional Education of Bleeding Patients (출혈환자 간호 시뮬레이션 실습에 따른 간호학생의 학업성취)

  • Purpose: This study was performed to identify in nursing students the effects of simulation practice for hemorrhagic patients. Methods: Subjects were sophomore nursing students in Daegu (n=133). A self describing performance questionnaire which included knowledge, skill and attitude towards bleeding patients was given. Consent was received from students. The data was analyzed by ANOVA with Scheffe's test and Mann-Whitney U test using the SPSS 12.0 Program. Result: Subjective and objective knowledge and skill showed significant improvement in the control group, especially in assessment, correct medication administration, explaination of NPO and preparing the crash cart for a cardiac arrest. Objective knowledge and skill was significantly higher in the control group although attitude was not. Conclusion: Simulation practice was an effective education method for improving knowledge, skill and attitude in nursing students.

Effects of an Educational Method using the OSCE Module Development Activities for Nursing Students on the Clinical Competence of Medication (간호학생의 구조화된 객관적 임상수행펑가 (OSCE) 모듈 개발 활동이 투약간호술에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to verify the educational effectiveness of the Objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) module development activities on nursing students in the areas of performance skill, knowledge, self-directed learning readiness, and problem solving ability for medication skill. Methods: This study was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized post-test design. The subjects (N=47), who agreed to participate in this study, were assigned to either the experimental (n=24) or control group (n=23). The experimental group was trained with OSCE module development activities for four days. The control group was trained with a traditional demonstration and practice class for the same amount of time as the experimental group. Medication performance skill and knowledge tests and surveys were done to measure self-directed learning readiness, and learning satisfaction after the experimental treatments. Results: The experimental group which participated in the OSCE module development activities showed significantly higher performance skill, self-directed learning readiness, and problem solving ability for skin test and insulin medication than that of the control group of traditional education. Conclusion: It is recommended to use the OSCE module development activities for nursing students in nursing education-learning in order to improve nursing skills.

A Convergence Study on the Effect of Fundamental Nursing Practice Program Applying Clinical Scenario in Nursing College Students -Centered Self efficacy, Communication Skill, Nursing Skill- (간호 대학생의 임상 시나리오를 적용한 기본간호학실습 프로그램 효과에 대한 융합 연구 -자기효능감, 의사소통능력, 간호 술기 능력 중심으로-)

  • This study aimed to analyze the effects of nursing students' self efficacy, communication skill, and nursing skill on their application of the fundamental nursing practice program with clinical scenario. This study used a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The participants were second year nursing students; the experimental group had 35 participants and the control group had 46. The clinical scenario based program was applied and evaluated the self efficacy, communication ability, and nursing ability. The results of the study showed an increase in self-efficacy in the experimental group, and this increase was statistically significant as compared to that in the control group (t=2.06, p=.042). Communication skill increased in the experimental group, but it was not statistically significant as compared to the control group (t=.28, p=.778). Nursing skills slightly increased in the experimental group compared to that in the control group (t=2.46 4, p=.016). The fundamental nursing practice combining the clinical scenario can help students' understanding of clinical situation and nursing skills.

Differences of Pre-Post Simulation Training on Problem solving, Performance confidence and Critical thinking Skill in Nursing Students according to Degree of Self-leadership (간호대학생의 셀프리더십 정도에 따른 시뮬레이션 교육 전·후 문제해결능력, 수행자신감 및 비판적 사고능력의 차이)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate differences of pre-post simulation training in problem solving ability, performance confidence, and critical thinking skill according to degree of nursing students' self-leadership. Methods: This study was a descriptive survey using a self-report questionnaire. One hundred eighty nursing students participated in this study which programed a simulation scenario of pre-post operative patients' care. Descriptive statistics, paired t-test, ANCOVA with IBM SPSS 21.0 program were used for data analysis. Results: After the simulation training, both the above-average subjects and below-average subjects in self-leadership significantly improved their problem-solving ability, performance confidence, and critical thinking skill. compared with their previous level. The subjects who rated above-average in self-leadership, improved their degree of problem-solving ability, performance confidence, and critical thinking skill significantly more than those who were below-average in self-leadership. Conclusion: Self-leadership of nursing students is an important element in effective simulation training.

The relationship among nursing student's knowledge, nursing skill and perceived performance of tracheostomy care (간호대학생의 기관절개관 관리에 대한 지식, 술기 및 지각된 수행정도와의 관계)

  • This study was to search the relationship among knowledge, nursing skill, perceived performance in graduating nursing class. The participants were 90 members of to graduating nursing class in D city. Data were collected from September 4, 2014 to September 22, 2014 using a questionnaire and core nursing skills checklists. Data analysis was done with SPSS/WIN 23.0 using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation. It found that knowledge of hand washing had a positive correlation between the nursing skill and perceived performance. The most vulnerablenursing skill was hand washing. The best nursing skill was sterilization and withdrawing contaminated products from the patient (Place the inner tube immersed in a solution of hydrogen peroxide). Based on the findings of this study, activating prior knowledge needs to be stressed. Thus, it would be necessary to include more effective motivation in designing experiential education program for cognitive performance.

Influence of teamwork skill and decision making competency on nursing work performance (간호사의 팀워크스킬과 의사결정역량이 간호업무성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was undertaken to investigate the influence of teamwork skill and decision making competency on nursing work performance. A total of 170 nurses more than one years working experience were recruited from two university hospitals. Data were collected during March, 16 to 25, 2016 using a structured self-report questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Teamwork skill and decision making competency for nursing work performance showed significant positive correlation. The significant predictors of nursing work performance among nurses were total clinical experience (${\beta}=.23$, p<.001), teamwork skill (${\beta}=.61$, p<.001) and decision making competency (${\beta}=.13$, p=.015). These variables explained 66% of the variance in nursing work performance among nurses. The results indicate that nurses' teamwork skill and decision making competency are factors positively influencing on nursing work performance.

Effects of Emotional Intelligence, Resilience, and Post-traumatic Growth on Communication Skills of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 감성지능, 회복탄력성, 외상 후 성장이 의사소통능력에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate levels of emotional intelligence, resilience, post-traumatic growth and communication skill of nursing students and to identify the factors affecting communication skill of nursing students and to use them as basic data to improve communication skill. The data collecting period is from April to May, 2017, and the subjects are 296 nursing students in D city. The results of the study showed that there was a statistically significant positive correlation between emotional intelligence, resilience, post-traumatic growth, and communication skill of nursing students. Also, as emotional intelligence, resilience, and post-traumatic growth increased, communication skill improved. The explanatory power of regression model was 51.9%. In conclusion, it is necessary to efforts to improve the emotional intelligence, resilience, and post-traumatic growth as a strategy to enhance communication skills of nursing students in order to establish therapeutic relationships with patients as nurses.

Factors Influencing Basic Nursing Skill Competency in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 기본간호수기 수행능력의 영향요인)

  • Purpose: This research was conducted to identify major factors that influence competency for nursing students in basic nursing skills. Method: Data were collected by questionnaires from 290 first year students in one college of nursing. The instrument tools included motivation for admission to nursing, concern about fundamentals of nursing, perceived importance of fundamentals of nursing, level of active participation in fundamentals of nursing, number of times to use open Lab, Lab class satisfaction, self-efficacy, self-evaluation and student attitude. Results: There was no significant correlation between competency in basic nursing skills and motivation for admission to nursing, concern about fundamentals of nursing, perceived importance of fundamentals of nursing, or number of times to use open Lab. Competency in basic nursing skill in these students showed a significantly positive correlation to Lab class satisfaction, self-efficacy, self-evaluation, student attitude and level of active participation in fundamentals of nursing. The major factors that influenced competency in basic nursing skills for nursing students were student attitude, self-efficacy and number of times to use open Lab. These factors explained 15.5% of the variance in competency. Conclusion: Basic nursing skill practice education programs should be developed to improve self-efficacy and active participation.

Effects of Student Perceptions of Social Skills on their Perception of Smoking

  • Background: This study was conducted as a descriptive-correlational exercise with the aim of determining the effect of student perceptions of social skills on their pro and con perceptions of smoking. Materials and Methods: The study sample comprised 106 students at $6^{th}$, $7^{th}$ and $8^{th}$ grades in three primary schools. The data were collected through socio-demographic data collection form, Social Skill Perception Form and Child Decisional Balance Scale. Data were evaluated by percentage calculation, Student t test and correlation analysis. Results: While the point average of pro perception of smoking of the students with a high point average of social skill perception, was $8.6{\pm}3.1$, in those with a low social skill perception point average it was $10.7{\pm}4.2$, the difference being significant(p=0.012). The respective point averages of con perceptions were $26.8{\pm}3.7$ and $23.5{\pm}3.3$, again significant (p=0.000). While a positive medium level (r=0.410) relationship was determined between the point average of social skill perception and con perception of smoking, a negative low level (r=0.281) relationship was determined with the pro perception of smoking. Conclusions: As the social skill perception point average increases, children's con perceptions of smoking increase and their pro perceptions decrease.

The Relationship among Knowledge, Attitudes, Skill, Self-efficacy, and Job Satisfaction of Healthcare Managers (건강관리사의 지식, 태도, 기술, 자기효능감과 직무만족)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the differences and relationships among knowledge, attitudes, skill, self-efficacy (SE), and Job satisfaction (JS) of healthcare managers (HMs) participated in the 4 kinds of continuing education. Methods: The subjects were 152 HMs. Data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and partial correlation. Results: There were significant differences in knowledge according to the amount of healthcare management experience (HME) and the training program level (TPL); in the attitudes according to gender, age, and the TPL; in the skill according to the amount of HME and the TPL; and in SE according to gender and the TPL. There was no significant difference in JS according to general characteristics. There were significant positive correlations among knowledge, attitudes, skill, SE, and JS. Conclusion: The TPL was identified as a significant common variable that affects all variables apart from JS. According to these results, knowledge, attitudes, skill, and SE are considered as intrapersonal constructs, whereas JS is considered as an organizational construct. Therefore, in order to improve the quality of healthcare management, organizational strategy to enhance job satisfaction of HMs are recommended.
