  • Some nonlocal boundary value problems which arise from a feedback control problem are considered. We give a precise statement of the mathematical problems and then prove the existence and uniqueness of the solutions. We consider the Dirichlet type boundary value problem and the Neumann type boundary value problem with nonlinear boundary conditions. We also provide a regularity results for the solutions.

  • In this paper new adaptive approach method for sub optimal control of nonlinear systems is presented. This paper used the method proposed by J.P.Matuszewski for adaptive optimal control scheme and used block pulse transformations for solving the Riccati differential equation which is usually quite this method is estabilished with simulation results and comparisons to existing approaches.

  • An overhead crane system which transports an object by girder motion, trolley motion, and hoist motion becomes a nonlinear system because the length of a rope changes. To develope the position control algorithm for the nonlinear crane systems, we apply a nonlinear optimal control method which uses forward and backward difference methods and obtain optimal inputs. This method is suitable for the overhead crane system which is characterized by the differential equation of higher degree and swing motion. From the results of computer simulation, it is founded that the position of the overhead crane system is controlled, and the swing of the object is suppressed.

  • A numerical method for determining the temperature vartiation in a natural gas transmission line is presented. By considering an element of the gas pipeline and assuming radially lumped heat transfer at steady-state conditions, the energy equation is developed. The integration of the developed nonlinear differential equation is done numerically using the fourth order Runge-Kutta scheme. The results of the present study have been compared with the results of Coulter equations, and show a fairly good agreement.

  • A creep-buckling analysis is studied for a simply-supported viscoelastic column. The fluid-type four-parameter model is employed because of its general applicability to creep materials. Using the imperfection-based incremental approach, a nonlinear load deflection equation is derived. Safe load and critical (or life) time which characterize the stability of the viscoelastic column are obtained mathematically and interpreted physically. A finite difference algorithm is applied to solve the second-order differential equation of the viscoelastic stress-strain relation. Numerical calculation has been made and discussed far a SUS316 stainless steel column.

  • Simulations on the nonlinear partial differential equation derived from Black-Scholes equation with transaction costs are performed. These numerical experiments using finite element methods are applied to KOSPI200 in 2002 and the option prices obtained with transaction costs are closer to the real prices in market than the prices used in Korea Stock Exchange.
