Background: This study investigated the health behaviors of North Korean, multicultural, and Korean family adolescents in Korea. Methods: The study subjects were from the Korea youth risk behavior web-based survey (2011-2013) dataset. We identified 1,954 multicultural family adolescents and twice as many Korean family adolescents. Frequency analysis was used to assess nativity and nationality of the parents, and the chi-square test was used to compare the general characteristics and health behavior of the multicultural and Korean families. Conditional multiple logistic regression was used to compare health behavior between multicultural and Korean families. Results: Of the 5,862 multicultural and Korean family adolescents, current smoking in North Korean family adolescents was higher than Korean family adolescents (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 2.32; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.60-3.35) after adjusting for sex, school year, perceived school record, family structure, father's education, mother's education, perceived economic status, place of residence, and survey year. A high drinking rate was significantly greater in North Korean family adolescents compared to Korean family adolescents (aOR, 2.94; 95% CI, 1.89-4.57). Odds ratios for sufficient physical activity of vigorous intensity (aOR, 1.82; 95% CI, 1.31-2.54) were significantly higher in North Korean family adolescents than in Korean family adolescents. Fast food intake (aOR, 1.96; 95% CI, 1.34-2.86) was significantly higher in North Korean family adolescents compared to Korean family adolescents. Conclusion: There were differences in health behavior between North Korean, multicultural, and Korean family adolescents. Further studies are needed to investigate the factors associated with these differences.

At present, our society is reducing the birth rate, and the school population is decreasing, but multicultural students are facing the increasing social phenomenon. We all need to make sure that bilingual teaching and learning is effective for children of multicultural families who need to live in the days of Phono Sapiens so that they can live confidently as members of our society. To this end, there is a great need for a bilingual teaching and learning method that enables children from multicultural families to be free from language and cultural prejudice and to actively communicate and interact. In this paper, we propose a customized bilingual education method that applies various teaching and learning methods according to the development cycle, school age, and Korean language ability of children of multicultural families. The proposed bilingual teaching method for children of multicultural families is a teaching and learning method that applies the Waldorf teaching principle.

At public elementary schools in areas where multicultural students are concentrated, they have difficulty understanding classes due to their lack of Korean proficiency. Multicultural teaching and learning materials produced by teachers have not been managed or reused and stored individually. To overcome this situation and increase students' learning effect, the study applied digital curation to multicultural teaching and learning materials and suggested to link the materials with a platform that can be stored, used, and shared. The study was based on B Elementary School in A City, a multicultural international innovation school under the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education. The process of applying digital curation to multicultural teaching and learning materials was analyzed by collecting, organizing/selecting teaching and learning materials, categorizing subject, classifying subtopic, and linking with platforms. Practical issues and policy suggestions in school settings were also proposed.

This study was performed to develop the basic framework of multicultural art education programs for female foreign immigrants married to Korean males. First, these programs aim to lessen their cultural variance in acculturizing in Korea, and thereafter enhance their emotional stability and improve their creative ability to integrate cultural diversity into family life. The primary objective of this study was to offer a suitable education program and evaluation criteria for the program; the research has been done through person-to person interviews with 53 subjects using a series of questionnaires composed of 8 five-point Likert-Scaled items. As for the process of the interview, the subjects were asked about their satisfaction with each program item twice in order to comparetheir impressions before and after program participation. The satisfaction scores were analyzed using frequency distribution. In addition, the program effects were also evaluated by coordinators and developers from their subjective comments through periodical evaluation meetings. From the results, it is observed that art education programs are beneficial for improving female immigrants' emotionaland cultural integration. In addition, experts determined that the programs were helpful for improving their human relationship and acculturization in Korea. Finally, it is concluded that multicultural education programs are a primary fundamental infra-structural way of integrating diverse cultures and improving communication exchanges, and therefore, improve family stability among the multicultural families in Korea.
The effect of an adolescent's being in a multicultural family, including the psychological, cultural, and situational characteristics of this experience, in terms of how it impacts acceptance of Korean culture, social competence, and educational adaptation was investigated. 120 multicultural family adolescents who were enrolled in Seouland Gyeonggi-do middle and high schools were surveyed. The results were analyzed by the PASW Statistics v18 program. Firstly, it was found that the psychological, cultural, and situational characteristics of multicultural family adolescents were significantly affected by family's general economic level and their mother's occupation and nationality. Secondly, multicultural family adolescents with higher self-perception, good accommodation of crosscultural attitudes in Korean culture and more relationships with Koreans tended to adapt to Korean culture more easily. Thirdly, multicultural family adolescents who adapted to Korean culture more easily could also adapt to school life well, and those who had better interpersonal relations and more advanced problem-solving skills had better relationships with school friends.
The purpose of this study was to analyze meal management behaviors for Korea dietary acculturation among multicultural families in Korea. The study compared differences in meal management behaviors among 90 multicultural families. Results of the study were as follows: cultural adaptation to Korea got higher with increasing age; marriage immigrants with longer marriage duration and with children showed higher cultural adaptation to Korea. Regarding food value of marriage immigrant women, 'eating favorite food' was the highest in the 20s, while 'satisfaction with Korean dietary lifestyle' was high in Chinese and in those with longer residency. Most of them replied 'myself' for the meal manager of their multicultural family. When surveyed on major difficulties in Korean meal management, existence of children showed significant difference for 'cooking', and period of residency and existence of children made significant difference for 'taste'. In conclusion, meal management behavior of multicultural families was influenced by socioeconomic factors. Further research is needed for more quantitative analysis and understanding of the effect of dietary patterns on nutritional status and quality of life in multicultural families.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors affecting the oral health behavior of mothers in multicultural families and the oral health management of children. Methods: The subjects were 303 mothers in multicultural families having children in childhood. To verify the validity of the outcome, a factorial analysis was conducted. To examine differences in the outcome according to socio-demographic characteristics, a one-way ANOVA was used, and the hypothesis was tested through a multiple regression analysis. Results: According to the results, it was found that severity, self-efficacy, sensitivity, and multicultural disability that show attitudes had significant impact on the mother's oral health behavior. Moreover, it was found that self-efficacy, sensitivity, and the mother's oral health behavior that show attitudes had significant impact on the children's oral health management. Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, it would be necessary to increase the interest in mother-and-child oral health, developing a mother-and-child oral health education program targeted toward the oral health of the mothers and children in multicultural families. Moreover, it is essential to educate mothers in multicultural families in order to increase their sense of responsibility toward their children's oral health management, aiming to promote knowledge and to change attitudes and behavior.
This study is to find out solutions to the problems of multicultural families which are becoming social problems. The results of this study are as follows : First, it is necessary to change government and public perception about multicultural families and society. Second, it is necessary to consider expanding and operating a counseling center for the support of multicultural families' human rights violations, labor issues, and life problems. Third, the efforts of related organizations and organizations including the government to diversify contents, subjects and programs of multicultural education are needed. Fourth, there is a need for a separate district development such as multicultural special zones.
This study was intended to investigate wether a multiculturalism education program which is integrated with age the 5 Nuri curriculum has a significant influence on promoting children's multiculturalism acceptance. The effect of the integrated multiculturalism program was studied depending on married female immigrant assistant teacher and multicultural children within a group. Three experimental groups and one comparative group were formed from 80 children whose kindergarten centers are located in southern cities of Gyeong-gi province and the convenient sampling method was used. A measurement tool for multiculturalism acceptance was used in this study, and this measurement is an amended and supplemented version of criteria aimed at children (elementary school students) developed by Kim and Chung(2010). The measurement tool was modified to make it suitable for children and consists of 33 questionnaires. All the data collected for this study was analyzed by the SPSS 20 program, the average, standard deviation, frequency, percentage. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated and one-way ANOVA and ANCOVA were implemented. As for the result of the study regarding perception and relationship-building capability, the group which conducted an integrated multiculturalism education program and consisted of including a female married-immigrant assistant teacher and multicultural children (Experimental group1) showed a higher figure compared to the groups which conducted an integrated multiculturalism education program under the instruction of a female married-immigrant assistant teacher (Experimental group2), the group which conducted only the integrated multiculturalism education program (Experimental group3), and the last group which conducted only the age 5 Nuri curriculum (comparative group). As for sympathy and openness toward multiculturalism, the group which conducted integrated multiculturalism education program under the instruction of a female married-immigrant assistant teacher (Experimental group2) showed a higher figure compared to the groups which conducted an integrated multiculturalism education program including a female married-immigrant assistant teacher and multicultural children (Experimental group1), the group which conducted only an integrated multiculturalism education program (Experimental group3), and the last group which conducted only the age 5 Nuri curriculum (comparative group). As a result, the study showed that the instructor's multicultural guidance capability played a major role in the children's multiculturalism education program.

The diversification of Korean society with a large influx of migrant workers, international marriages, and international students calls for an attention to the importance of cultural competence of Library and Information Science sector in order to respond effectively and appropriately to the needs of immigrants who have diverse cultural backgrounds. In regard to these circumstances, this study is designed to develop the components of cultural competency needed by librarians. For this, this study collected its data through literatures review and interviews with librarians who are implementing services for immigrants in multicultural libraries and with experts who have experienced researches based multicultural services or involved with the management of multicultural families and migrant workers. As a result, the cultural competency components emerging from literatures review and interviews were divided into three parts ; multicultural attitude, multicultural knowledge and multicultural skills. And detailed components of three parts of cultural competency were specifically multicultural attitude, knowledge of multicultural groups, knowledge of multicultural services, development of collections, programs, and services, service delivery, language diversity, and professional education and workforce diversity.
