Is Job Insecurity Worse for Mental Health Than Having a Part-time Job in Canada?

  • Objectives: A growing number of people depend on flexible employment, characterized by outsider employment status and perceived job insecurity. This study investigated whether there was a synergistic effect of employment status (full-time vs. part-time) and perceived job insecurity on major depressive disorder. Methods: Data were derived from the 2012 Canadian Community Health Survey-Mental Health of 12 640 of Canada's labor force population, aged 20 to 74. By combining employment status with perceived job insecurity, we formed four employment categories: full-time secure, full-time insecure, part-time secure, and part-time insecure. Results: Results showed no synergistic health effect between employment status and perceived job insecurity. Regardless of employment status (full-time vs. part-time), insecure employment was significantly associated with a high risk of major depressive disorder. Analysis of the interaction between gender and four flexible employment status showed a gender-contingent effect on this link in only full-time insecure category. Men workers with full-time insecure jobs were more likely to experience major depressive disorders than their women counterparts. Conclusions: This study's findings imply that perceived job insecurity may be a critical factor for developing major depressive disorder, in both men and women workers.

일부 치위생과 학생의 아르바이트 경험이 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향 (Effect of part-time employment experience on adaptation to university life in dental hygiene students)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to find out the effect of part-time employment experience on adaptation to university life in dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 288 dental hygiene students in Seoul and Gyeonggido from September to October, 2014. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects(5 items), part-time employment experience(6 items), and adaptation to university life(53 items). The instrument for adaptation to university life was adapted from Baker and Sirky and modified by Kwon. Likert 5 point scale adaptation included personal emotion adaptation, academic adaptation, social adaptation, and university environment adaptation. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ was 0.80 in the study. Results: The adaptation to university life was 3.0 points. The higher the economic level was, the higher the personal emotional adaptation(p<0.001) and academic adaptation were(p<0.05). The adaptation to university life was positively influenced by tuition support by parents and part-time employment(p<0.05). The part-time employment was significantly helpful to future job selection, social adaptation, and university environment adaptation(p<0.001). Economic stability and advantage of future job selection had a positive influence on the adaptation to university life. So the adaptation to university life was proportional to younger age, economic stability, and advantage to future job selection. Conclusions: It is very important to give a positive motivation and stimulation, and a careful counseling to the students in part-time employment. In order to encourage the part-time employed students, major-related part-time job opening must be given.

조리·제과제빵 대학생들의 교육환경이 교육만족도와 추천의도에 미치는 영향 - 전공 파트타임 경험의 조절효과 - (The Impact of Students' Educational Environment on Educational Satisfaction, and Recommendation - Focused on Students Major in Cooking and Baking -)

  • 본 연구는 부산지역의 조리 제과제빵전공 대학생들의 교육환경이 만족도, 추천의도에 미치는 영향에서 전공 파트타임 경험이 조절효과를 하는지 규명해 대학관계자에서 전공자들의 교육환경에 대한 인식을 이해하고, 유용한 자료를 제공하기 위한 것이다. 조리 제과제빵관련 전공자의 교육환경이 만족도와 추천의도의 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 부산지역 외식 제과제빵전공 2년제 대학생 299명을 대상으로 SPSS 20.0 통계 프로그램을 이용하여 빈도분석, 요인분석 상관관계분석을 하였다. 또한 전공 파트타임 경험의 조절효과가 있는지의 검정은 3단계 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과, 교육환경과 만족도간에는 정의 상관관계가 있었고, 전공 파트타임 경험은 물리적 환경만 p<0.01에서 통계적으로 유의하게 나타나 교육환경에서 부분 채택되었고, 조절효과는 $R^2$값이 0.603에서 0.610으로 0.007 증가하여 교육환경에 전공 파트타임 경험이 만족도를 증가시키는 것으로 분석되어 조절효과가 있는 것으로 알 수 있다. 만족도가 추천의도에 미치는 영향에서 전공 파트타임 경험의 조절효과는 기각되었다.

치위생과 학생의 윤리성향, 자아존중감, 임상실습 만족이 전공만족도에 미치는 영향 (The Influences of Ethical propensity, Self-esteem and Clinical satisfaction on Major satisfaction in Dental hygiene students)

  • 본 연구는 치위생과 학생들의 윤리성향, 자아존중감 및 임상실습 만족도가 전공만족도에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 경남과 울산 소재 3개 대학의 치위생과 3학년 학생 381명을 대상으로 조사연구하였다. 자아존중감은 학과 선택시기가 '고등학교 3학년 이전', 구강건강이 '건강하다', 성격은 '외향적', 가정 분위기는 '화목하다'에서 높았다. 임상실습 만족도는 '치과 아르바이트 경험'이 있다에서 높았고, 전공만족도는 학과 선택시기와 구강건강상태에서 유의한 차이가 있었다(p<0.05). 전공만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인은 자아존중감(${\beta}=.165$, p=.000)과 임상실습만족도(${\beta}=.630$, p=.000)이었다. 따라서 본 연구를 통해 치위생과 학생의 윤리의식 수준과 자아존중감, 임상실습만족도를 향상시킬 수 있는 교육과정 개발의 필요성을 확인하였다.

대학생이 지각한 부모통제가 진로성숙도에 미치는 영향: 자기결정성과 자기효능감의 다중매개효과를 중심으로 (The Effects of Parental Control Perceived by College Students on Career Maturity: Focusing on Multiple Mediating Effects of Self-Determination and Self-Efficacy)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine that multiple mediating effects of self-determination and self-efficacy in the relationship between the parental control and career maturity. In the study, 747 university students in Daegu, Busan and Seoul area were surveyed on their perceived level of parental control, career maturity, self-determination and self-efficacy. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation analysis with SPSS 25.0 program, Hayes'Process Macro program and bootstrapping. The major results of this study were as follows; First, there were significant differences in college student's career maturity by grade, major, experience in career-related services and part-time job experience period. Second, there were significant correlations between parental control(behavioral control and psychological control), career maturity, self-determination and self-efficacy. Third, self-determination and Self-efficacy had multiple mediating effects in the relationship between parental control and career maturity. In conclusion, this study found multiple mediating effects of self-determination and self-efficacy in the relationship between parental control(behavioral control and psychological control) and career maturity. It was also found that parental behavioral control had a positive effect on career maturity by increasing self-determination and self-efficacy while parental psychological control had a negative effect on career maturity by decreasing self-determination and self-efficacy.

초혼계모의 재혼가족생활 스트레스와 적응에 대한 경험적 연구 (The Experience of the first-married stepmother's stress and adaptation to her stepfamily)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the specific and empirical contents in terms of first-married stepmother about her stress and efforts to adapt to her stepfamily. This studies relied on the qualitative research method in order to approach stepmother's subjective experience. There were 6 stepmother respondents who were 6 first-marrieds living in Seoul or Kyoungki area. The data was collected by in-depth personal interview.‘Open coding process’, a part of grounded theory procedures were used to analyzed the data. The major findings can be summarized as follows: 1. When focused o stressors, the stress of stepmothers were categorized into 4 categories. Those were the following: 1 When focused on stressors, the stress of stepmothers were categorized into 4 categories. Those were the following: (1) Stepmother's own problem such as stepmother' identity problem; (2) Problems within stepfamily such as problems about relations with husbands, stepchildren, and her own children; (3) Problems of stepmother family's kin such as relational problems with former spouses, in-laws, and her parent; (4) Problems of social relationship such as isolation and alienation in social relationship and neighbors' prejudice about stepmother. 2. In overcoming stress from stepfamily life and adapting to it, 4 categories were identified as important. Contents of 4 categories were such like this: (1) Stepmother's own efforts - (a) give a positive meaning to marriage or remarriage (b) flexible personality (c) situation-accepting attitude (d) exclusive management of household income (e) job (f) perseverance for time to adaptation; (2) Positive feedback within stepfamily - (a) supportive husband (b) sense of unity as a couple (c) psychological reward from stepchildren (d) existence of stepmother's own child (e) behavior for family solidarity (f) family-centered religious life; (3) Stepfamily's relationship with former spouses such as breakdown in relationship with ex-wives or ex-husbands; (4) Support from stepmothers' kin and people in social network with stepmothers. It was concluded that to reduce stress and to help adapt to stepfamily, stepmother should make an effort, and that her stepfamily and her kin should cooperate and support. In addition, negative stereotype of stepmother and stepfamily should disappeared. It was suggested that studies on stepfamily should be vitalized and that programs for preparing remarriage and counseling for stepfamily should be spread.

인천지역 초등학교 영양사의 영양교육 실태 및 인식에 관한 연구 (A Study on Elementary School Dietitian's Status and Recognition of Nutrition Education in Incheon)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the elementary school dietitian's status and recognition of nutrition education (NE) in Incheon. A cross-sectional study was carried out using a self-administered questionnaire and subjects were 100 elementary school dietitians. The results are as follows. As for training in NE, $61.2\%$ of the dietitians attended training in NE. After training in NE, $86.5\%$ of the dietitians who attended training in NE were more concerned about NE. Also $59.5\%$ of the dietitians gave students NE and most of them did as a weekly printout 2-4 times per month. There was a significant difference in experience of NE for teachers between subgroups by experience of training in NE; while $48.1\%$ of the dietitians with training in NE gave teachers NE, $20.0\%$ of the dietitians without training in NE gave teachers NE. The main reason for not giving NE was too much work load and low concern of school administration. Also $96.4\%$ of the dietitians answered that NE is necessary in elementary school and the main reason for being necessary was correction of unbalanced diet and good table manner, As for proper time to start NE for children, $51.8\%$ of dietitians answered 'kindergarten' and $45.8\%$ of them answered 'lower grade of elementary school'. As for effective type for NE, $59.5\%$ of the dietitians answered 'NE as a part of other subject' and $23.8\%$ of them answered 'NE as a separate subject'. Also $79.5\%$ of the dietitians answered 'teacher' as the suitable person for NE. Most of the dietitians recognized menu formation as the ideal major work load and office work as the most time-consuming work load. As to job satisfaction, most of them were dissatisfied with office work and NE. Therefore, it is nationally supported for elementary school students' health and well-being that school dietitians as NE specialists give NE with minimizing their office work and developing a standardized NE program.

문헌정보학전공 졸업자의 취업실태 분석 연구 - K대학교를 중심으로 - (A Study on Employment Analysis of Graduates Majoring Library and Information Science: the case of K University)

  • 본 연구는 K대학을 중심으로 문헌정보학 전공 졸업자의 취업실태를 분석, 문제점을 파악하고 개선방안을 제언하는데 있다. 2006년 8월부터 2011년 2월까지 5년간 취업가능 졸업자 178명을 분석한 결과, 취업실태는 취업 65%, 미취업 32%, 진학 3%로 나타났다. 이 중 취업자 116명을 분석한 결과, 고용형태는 정규직 40%, 비정규직 60%로, 직장 유형은 일반회사 29%, 공공도서관 16%, 학교도서관과 대학도서관 각각 10%, 대학/학교행정 9%, 공공기관과 출판/서점 각각 6%, 전문도서관 5%로 나타났다. 또 담당직무는 사서업무 38%, 사무업무 30%, 영업/관리 7%, 텔러/판매 7%, 조교업무 5%, 웹/전산 3%, 학원 강사와 상품기획/디자인 각각 2%, 사서교사, 보육교사, 비서, 사보기자, 군인, 자영업 각각 1%로 나타나 40%대의 전공일치도를 보였다. 미취업자(56명)의 희망 진로는 취업준비 57%, 공무원 준비 21%, 교사임용 준비와 미확인 각각 11%로 나타났다. 분석결과 문제점은 미취업률이 32%에 달할 정도로 높은 점, 정규직보다 비정규직 취업률이 높은 점, 전공일치도 평균 40%대에 불과한 점 등이었다. 이를 토대로 국가와 지방자치단체가 도서관적 일자리를 적극 창출할 것, 전공학생이 정보 분야 일자리를 이해하고 체험할 수 있는 기회를 갖게 할 것, 학문분야 차원에서 전공분야에 대한 일자리를 개발하고 지도할 것 등을 제언하였다.

방사선과 졸업생의 학업성취도와 면허 취득의 관계 (Correlations between Radiological Technology Graduates' Academic Achoevement and their Obtainment of a License)

  • 방사선과 졸업생을 대상으로 입학 관련 특성, 재학 중의 학업성취도 및 학교생활에 따른 방사선사 면허 취득의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 출신고교의 지역 및 계열은 대구지역의 인문계 출신자가 대부분이었으며, 일반전형 입학이 가장 많았고, 입학 동기는 높은 취업률 때문이었으며, 학과 선택은 본인과 가족이 함께 결정하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 재수강은 35.1%가 하였으며, 학사경고는 8.5%가 받았고, 학업성취도는 대체적으로 본인 스스로가 낮다고 생각하였으며, 전공과목 이수에 어려움이 있는 것으로 대답하였다. 입학전형별 취득한 평균평점은 대학졸업자전형, 일반전형, 특별전형, 농어촌전형 순으로 낮았으며, 입학전형 종류와 이과 과목 이수 여부에 따른 방사선사 국가고시 합격률은 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 없었으며, 재수강, 학사경고, 학업성취도에 대해서는 통계적으로 매우 유의한 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 학교생활에 있어서 아르바이트 경험, 이성교제 및 동아리 활동 유무는 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 없었으나, 거주형태가 본가인 경우와 스터디 활동을 한 경우에는 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 나타내어 방사선과 졸업생의 면허 취득은 재학 중의 학업성취도와 학교생활과 밀접한 관계가 있으므로 중요성을 인식할 필요가 있다고 생각한다.
