  • This study started by recognizing that a competency-based major curriculum in physics education was necessary to respond to field demands in the intelligent information age. To address this need, the research developed a competency-based major curriculum model for the Department of Physics Education at G University. The research process involved several stages: environmental analysis focusing on the characteristics of the intelligent information age, needs analysis of the educational field, establishment of ideal human resources and academic goals, selection of major competencies, curriculum system composition, and roadmap development. The major curriculum committee reviewed and evaluated each stage of this process. The study established an ideal image of 'innovative and communicative educators leading future education' along with three educational objectives. It also identified academic-research competency, field-job competency, and convergence-integration competency as major competencies, defining sub-competencies for each. The research team restructured the curriculum to achieve a balanced development of major competencies and introduced a new science edutainer micro-degree program to address career diversification. The project implemented complementary extracurricular programs to supplement insufficient major competencies and established systems for managing individual students' major competencies and the overall major curriculum. The competency-based major curriculum model developed through this study aims to strengthen the practical competencies of physics education students and provide an effective approach to respond to future changes in the educational environment.

  • Computer education in universities has been expanded and specialized from ICT-based education in recent years to software education such as computational thinking and programming. Especially, as the 4th Industrial Revolution is emphasized in all fields of society, software education, which is its core, is being applied as an essential liberal arts course in universities. In the case of basic SW education for all students, it is necessary to provide differentiated education that is suitable for students because their special characteristics are different. In this study, we conducted a basic SW course for general liberal arts at A-university in Seoul and analyzed the survey data from 4,927 students for about 3 years, and classified the major series and searched the appropriate education method for each subdivided group. Through the analysis, we were able to find characteristic groups such as business and commerce, art and sports major. Finally, six groups for basic-SW education are presented. Educational directions such as programming language and level of difficulty setting suitable for differentiated education are presented for each group.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate daily nutrient intakes, serum minerals and lipids in university students majoring in physical education. Anthropometric measurement, dietary survey, and blood analysis were conducted and compared between physical education major (PM) and other major (OM) students. Average age was 21.3 years for PM students and 20.8 years for OM students. Body weight and BMI of PM students were significantly higher than those of OM students (p<0.05). Systolic blood pressure of PM students was significantly lower than that of OM students (p<0.05). Daily energy intake was 2,047.4 kcal for PM students and 2,393.9 kcal for OM students, indicating a significant difference. Carbohydrate and vitamin B1 intakes of PM students were significantly lower than those of OM students. Serum calcium was significantly higher in PM students while serum phosphorus and magnesium levels were higher in OM students. Serum total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol were significantly lower in PM students while HDL-cholesterol was lower in OM students. In conclusion, university students who major in physical education showed higher serum calcium, lower serum phosphorus and magnesium, and lower systolic blood pressure and serum cholesterol levels than other major students. These results show that physical activity as a major course of study is associated with decreased blood pressure and blood lipids as well as altered serum mineral levels.

  • This study aims to examine the differences between groups through the results of the core competency diagnosis, and to find out the differences in core competences depending on engineering education accreditation, gender, admission types. To this end, we analyzed the differences in K-CESA results on self-management capabilities, resources & information use, global competency, higher order thinking competency, and interpersonal competency in 2017 for the fourth graders of S University. An ANOVA of major field showed that the humanities had high overall competencies. The results of t-test of engineering students showed that accredited students had relatively low "flexibility" of their global competency, and that the "analysis" of their higher order thinking competency was relatively high. There were no statistically significant differences between groups depending on the admission types. Through these analyses, we presented suggestions such as the provision of specialized programs based on differences among different groups, the development of comprehensive thinking skills such as capstone design, the need to secure flexibility in engineering education accreditation, and the enhancement of female students' resources & information use.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the nutrition knowledge, characteristics related to, nutrient intakes, anthropometrics, biochemical indices of university female students by major (food and nutrition versus physical science). Data were taken from 120 university female students (60 from each major) and the results follows. The mean age of the subjects was 19.6 years old. Most of subjects responded that they were healthy; subjects majoring in physical science scored higher in regular exercise (p < 0.01) and were more satisfied with their own body figures (p < 0.01), compared with the counterparts. The total nutrition knowledge score was $81.01{\pm}12.3$ for food and nutrition majors and $72.5{\pm}15.2$ points for physical science majors. (p < 0.01) The percentages of body fat were significantly higher in the food and nutrition students than the counterparts. (p < 0.001) The result of biochemical analysis showed that both groups were in normal range. But there was some statistically significant difference between groups in GTP, HDL-cholesterol and ALP levels. It suggests that regular exercise might have a positive effect on the body. This study showed that although both groups had different knowledge of nutrition, there was not much difference in the intakes of nutrients. But especially, the intakes of calcium and iron were quite low in both groups. Subjects majoring in Physical science had more lipid intake, but they had lower body fat. This suggests that regular exercise in this group might have effects on the percentages of body fat. In future study, nutrition education might be planned to increase nutrition knowledge and to connect nutrition knowledge to eating behaviors and to promote health to regular exercise. Also, the desire and the social perception for pursuing alean body figure and being underweight should be changed for optimal health.
