  • The magnetic levitation effect a high Tc superconductor beneath the toroidal permanent magnet was examined by means of a improved magnetic seesaw method. Magnetic effects associated with penetration and pinning in superconductor. One of these was focussing of magnetic field by superconductor and the other was magnetic levitation. The existence of equilibrium was shown to be related to hysteresis observed in the force separation for a toroidal permanent magnet and superconductor. Obtained results indicate that magnetic levitation effect in the present case was mainly due to diamagnetic effect.

  • Strain-stress behavior of soil is of importance in dealing with geo-techniques which relate to bearing capacity, slope stability, earth pressure and many geo-technical problems. So understanding mechanism of the behavior and reinforcing soil to the required state has been an issue for many years. This paper presents the possibility of magnetic force in enhancing shear strength. To analyze the reinforcing effect, triaxial compression tests were performed on two sets of steel-sand mixtures, one of which is influenced by permanent magnet, NdFeB. With magnetic force under 50 kPa confining pressure, maximum shear strengths increased according to steel percentages but under 100 kPa, no significant changes in maximum shear strengths occurred. Therefore the analysis by Mohr's circles indicates that magnetic force converts the shearing characteristics of sand into those of clay.

  • This paper represents solenoid design of control valve for incline angle control in variable compressor. Some theoretical and numerical analysis were performed to analyse solenoid and compared with experimental results. Maxwell program was used for numerical analysis. Through redesigns of housing body, plunger, core, and disk in control valve, the needed force was gotten. Reduction of core groove and housing body air-gap had a large influence on magnetic force. But increasing of disk thickness had little effect on magnetic force. Control valve efficiency could be improved through solenoid redesign.

  • Suspension effect has been studied by using superconductor of BiPbSrCaCuO ceramics containing $Ag_{2}O$ It has been cleared that $Ag_{2}O$ acts as pinning center which plays an important role to the suspension effect. Magnetic repulsive force which affects a superconductor located in magnetic flux from toroidal magnet has been investigated. It has been concluded that the suspension effect arises from the interaction between the pinning effect and the diamagnetic effect.

  • Acoustic noise and vibration of a BLDC motor is a coupled phenomenon between mechanical characteristics and electromagnetic origins through the motor air-gap. When a relative misalignment of rotor in the air-gap center exists on the assemblage, it is considered to influence the motor system characteristics. In this paper, the back electro motive force(BEMF) is analyzed by Finite Element Method(FEM) and verified by experiments for the SPM and IPM type motors. For magnetic field analysis, a FEM is used to account for the magnetic saturation. Using these results, the FEM is made to determine the appropriate electromagnetic field analysis in BLDC motors with rotor eccentricity ratio. A radial magnetic imbalance force of BLDC motor with rotor eccentricity is analyzed. Results demonstrate that the imbalance force is increased according to the degree of misalignment. An IPM motor, mostly chosen to realize high-speed operation, shows a worse effect on magnetic unbalanced forces and dynamic responses compared with SPM motor due to magnetic saturation when the rotor eccentricity exists.

  • This paper presents an analysis of the permanent magnet overhang effect for the permanent magnetic actuator. Generally, the overhang is often used to increase the force density in permanent magnet machineries. The overhang is particularly profitable in reducing the volume after increasing the force density per volume when using the overhang effect of the permanent magnet. Therefore, the 3D Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Network Method (3D EMCN) has been used in this paper. According to the plunger position, the flux distribution per overhang length and the holding force are quantitatively compared. Furthermore, an appropriate length of the overhang has been proposed. To confirm the accuracy of the analysis method, the results of 2D FEM and 3D FEM are compared for the basic model.

  • In many cases, the magnetic farce model is linearized at the origin in designing the controller of a magnetic bearing system. However. this linear assumption is violated by the unmodeled nonlinear effect such as sensor dislocation and backup bearing dislocation. Therefore, a direct probe into the nonlinear magnetic force model in an active magnetic bearing system is necessary. To analyze the nonlinear magnetic force model of a magnetic bearing system, phase plot analysis which is to plot the numerical solution of the nonlinear equation in several initial points in the interested region is applied. Phase plot analysis is used to observe a nonlinear dynamic system qualitatively (not quantitatively). With this method, we can get much useful information of the nonlinear system. Among this information, a bifurcation graph that represents stability and locations of fixed points is essential. From the bifurcation graph, a stability criterion of magnetic bearing system is derived.

  • This paper presents an experimental approach to study the effect of friction on magnerorheological (MR) fluids. Both steady and dynamic modes were employed to investigate MR fluid behaviors. The experimental results indicate that the total MR effects are dominated by two factors: magnetic force and friction force. Conventionally, the magnetic force contribution to MR effect has been intensively studied while the friction force effect has attracted less attention. This study provides a method to quantitatively predict the friction contribution to the total MR effect. It may be used to effectively analyze enhanced MR effects reported by other groups. Also, it might provide good guidance to develop high-efficiency MR fluids.

  • Recently, there are a great many research for magnetic levitation system. In case electromagnet is operated as the actuator of control system, first of all, we must analysis about an electromagnet. Important parameters of this system are inductance(L) and resistance(R) which are induced from the coil of electromagnet. And attractive force equation is also important. If the load of this system is large, phase delay is caused by self-inductance effect. Because this delay effect cause stability of whole magnetic evitation system to grow worse, a measures to diminish time constant must have been taken. And the linearized attractive force equation which is used at small range of the operating point is compensated to use at larger range, thus the experiment of magnetic levitation system will get a better result.
