  • Recently, Ertogral et al.[2] suggested two models considering the transportation cost based on single-vendor single-buyer integrated production-inventory problem. Although their problem-solving algorithm guarantees solutions obtained are optimal, a limitation is revealed that its performance can be inefficient due to complete enumeration search in a certain range. In this paper, a more efficient algorithm in finding optimal solutions is suggested for the same problem suggested by Ertogral et at.[2]. Numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.

A Robust Joint Optimal Pricing and Lot-Sizing Model

  • The problem of jointly determining a robust optimal bundle of price and order quantity for a retailer in a single-retailer, single supplier, single-product supply chain is considered. Demand is modeled as a decreasing power function of product price, and unit purchasing cost is modeled as a decreasing power function of order quantity and demand. Parameters defining the two power functions are uncertain but their possible values are characterized by ellipsoids. We extend a previous study in two ways; the purchasing cost function is generalized to take into account the economies of scale realized by higher product demand in addition to larger order quantity, and an exact transformation into an equivalent convex optimization program is developed instead of a geometric programming approximation scheme proposed in the previous study.

  • 본 논문에서는 운송비용과 재고유지비용의 합을 최소화하는 것을 목적으로 유한 계획기간 동안의 수요를 충족시키는 동적 랏사이징 문제를 다룬다. 운송비용을 고려하는 기존의 랏사이징 모형들과는 달리 운송 트럭의 대수에 따라 계단형으로 운송비용이 증가하는 경우를 다루고 있다. 이 문제를 선형정수모형으로 모델링하며 그리디 방식의 휴리스틱을 제안한다. 제안된 휴리스틱의 성능을 평가하기 위해 계산실험을 수행하며, 그 결과 매우 짧은 시간 안에 최적해에 가까운 해를 찾을 수 있음을 보여준다.

Evaluation of Storage Policies with Production Lot-Sizing Consideration in an AS/RS

  • The performance of Storage assignment policies is traditionally evaluated with the storage capacity of and AS/RS taken as given. However, the storage capacity is closely related to the inventory model used in real situations. This paper presents a model of evaluating the performance of three storage policies(random storage, class-based storage, and full turnover-based storage) considering production lot-sizing simultaneously with storage assignment of inventory items. The objective of the model is to achieve a balance of warehouse throughput and space requirements such that a total of material handling cost, production ordering cost, and inventory holding cost is minimized. The effects of the parameters involved in the model are investigated on the performance of each storage policy through example problems.

  • In many cases, production-inventory systems involves significant demand variations. Actual demand is probabilistic and the production capacity is also limited. Finding the proper production lot sizes to this problem usually requires heavy computational procedures. Therefore a heuristic approach were under various assumptions is highly recommended. In this paper, an approach with consideration of probabilistic demand and limited production capacity is proposed.

  • Based on single-vendor single-buyer integrated production-inventory problem, a model considering freight costs discounts is suggested when the cargo capacity is constrained. With the cost function formulated, several properties of the model are derived and analyzed. An efficient algorithm to find solutions such as shipment lot size, number of shipments and number of full truckloads using properties derived is suggested. Numerical results are provided to illustrate the proposed solution procedures and to provide additional insights.

  • Economic Lot size decision is studied on this thesis foe the muti-product small batch production system. Even though economic lot size decision has been studied for the MRP system. this could be applied at the industry under the multi-product small batch production system because of very complicate and manager's lack of understand. Therefore, this technique is applied at the industry in order to minimize ordering cosy based on optimal quantity and period, and holding cost according to optimize inventory level under the muti-product small batch production system.   • In this paper, we propose a lot-sizing and scheduling problem that seeks to minimize the sum of production cost and inventory cost over a given planning horizon while considering idle state of a machine in a batch production system. For this problem, we develop an integer programming model. And, we develop an efficient 2-phase heuristic algorithm to find a high quality feasible solution within reasonable time bounds. In the first phase, we seek to minimize the production cost by assigning batches to machines. Then, in the second phase, we find a production sequence of batches that reduces the inventory cost, while considering adding or deleting idle states between batches. Computational results show that the developed heuristic algorithm finds excellent feasible solutions within reasonable time bounds. Also, we could significantly reduce the total cost consisting of production cost and inventory cost by using the developed heuristic algorithm at a real manufacturing system that produces zinc alloys.

  • This article derives an analytic solution to determine the optimal size of multiple noncontinuous process and storage units. The total cost to be minimized consists of the setup cost of noncontinuous processing units and the inventory holding cost of feedstock/product storages. A novel approach, which is called PSW(Periodic Square Wave) model, is applied to represent the material flow among non-continuous units and storages. PSW model presumes that the material flow between unit and storage is periodic square wave shaped. The resulting optimal unit size has similar characteristics with the classical economic lot sizing model such as EOQ(Economic Order Quantity) or EPQ(Economic Production Quantity) model in a sense that the unit size is determined as the balance between setup and inventory holding cost. However, the influence of inventory holding cost of PSW model is different from that of EOQ/EPQ model. EOQ/EPQ model includes only the product inventory holding cost but PSW model includes all inventory holding costs around the non-continuous unit with proportional contribution. PSW model is suitable for analyzing interlinked process-storage system. The optimal lot size of PSW model is smaller than that of EOQ/EPQ model. This is quitea remarkable result considering that the EOQ/EPQ model has been is widely used since last half century.

  • A large amount of time and cost is consumed due to congestions caused by an increasing number of cars which results in a lot of emissions. To overcome these problems, a new electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft is being considered. Since vertical take off and landing without a separate runway is realized and electricity is used as a power source, it could solve the saturated ground traffic congestions without emissions. In this paper, the initial sizing was performed based on the Nexus 6HX of Belltextron which is a tilt-ducted fan type. In this study, the electric propulsion system that only uses battery was implemented instead of current Nexus 6HX hybrid electric propulsion. Aerodynamic analyses were performed using OpenVSP and XFLR5. Power-to-weight ratio, wing loading, estimated weight were calculated with these analyses.
