A method for the identification of mechanical parameters based on integral calculation is presented. Both the moment of inertia and the friction constant are identified by the method developed here, which is based on well-known mechanical differential equations. The mechanical system under test is excited according to a pre-determined low-frequency sinusoidal motion, minimizing the distortion, and increasing the accuracy of the results. The parameters are identified using integral calculation, increasing the robustness of the results against measurement noise. Experimental data are supported by simulation, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed technique. The performance improvements shown here are of use in the design of speed and position controllers and observers. Owing to its simplicity, this method can be readily applied to commercial inverter products.
A model is constructed to evaluate the stress intensity factors for a center crack subjected to polynomial anti-symmetric loading in a layered material. A Fredholm integral equation is derived by Fourier integral transform method. The integral equation is numerically analyzed to evaluate the effects of the ratios of shear modulus, Poisson's ratio and crack length to layer thickness as well as the number of layers on the stress intensity factor. The stress intensity factors are approached to constant values as the number of layers increase and decrease as the polynomial power of the loading increase. In case of the E-glass/Epoxy composite, dimensionless stress intensity factor is affected by cracked-resin layer thickness.
The present study deals with an approximate integral equation approach to finite deflection of elastic plates with arbitrary plane form. An integral formulation leads to a system of boundary integral equations involving values of deflection, slope, bending moment and transverse shear force along the edge. The basic principles of the development of boundary element technique are reviewed. A computer program for solving for stresses and deflections in a isotropic, homogeneous, linear and elastic bending plate is developed. The fundamental solution of deflection and moment is employed in this program. The deflections and moments are assumed constant within the quadrilateral element. Numerical solutions for sample problems, obtained by the direct boundary element method, are presented and results are compared with known solutions.

For a planar curve-sided panel with constant or linear density distributions of source or doublet in the singularity methods, Cantaloube and Rehbach show that the surface integral can be transformed into contour integral by using Stokes'formulas. As an extension of their formulations, this paper deals with a planar polygonal panel for which we derive the closed-forms of the potentials and the velocities induced by the singularity distributions. Test calculations show that the analytical evaluation of the closed-forms is superior to numerical integration (suggested by Cantaloube and Rehbach) of the contour integral. The compact and explicit expressions may produce accurate values of matrix elements of simultaneous linear equations in the singularity methods with much reduced computer time.
In order to reject the steady-state tracking error, it is common to introduce integral compensators in servosystems for constant reference signals. However, if the mathematical model of the plant is exact and no disturbance input exists, the integral compensation is not necessary. From this point of view, a two-degree-of-freedom(2DOF) servosystem has been proposed, in which the integral compensation is effective only when there is a modeling error or a disturbance input. The present paper considers a robust stability of this 2DOF servosystem with nonlinear type uncertainty in the system, and a robust stability condition for the servosystem is introduced. This result guarantees that if the plant uncertainty is in the permissible set defined by the condition, gain tuning can be carried out to suppress the influence of the plant uncertainties and disturbance inputs.
It has become apparent from the recent work by Choi et al. [3] on the nonlinear beam deflection problem, that analysis of the integral operator $\mathcal{K}$ arising from the beam deflection equation on linear elastic foundation is important. Motivated by this observation, we perform investigations on the eigenstructure of the linear integral operator $\mathcal{K}_l$ which is a restriction of $\mathcal{K}$ on the finite interval [$-l,l$]. We derive a linear fourth-order boundary value problem which is a necessary and sufficient condition for being an eigenfunction of $\mathcal{K}_l$. Using this equivalent condition, we show that all the nontrivial eigenvalues of $\mathcal{K}l$ are in the interval (0, 1/$k$), where $k$ is the spring constant of the given elastic foundation. This implies that, as a linear operator from $L^2[-l,l]$ to $L^2[-l,l]$, $\mathcal{K}_l$ is positive and contractive in dimension-free context.
Heat transfer performance improvement by fin and groovs is studied for condensation of R-11 on integral-fin tubes. Eight tubes with trapczodially shaped integral-fins having fin density from 748 to 1654fpm(fin per meter) and 10, 30 grooves are tested. A plain tube having the same diameter as the finned tubes is also used for comparison. R-11 condensates at saturation state of 32 $^{\circ}C$ on the outside tube surface coded by inside water flow. All of test data are taken at steady state. The heat transfer loop is used for testing singe long tubes and cooling is pumped from a storage tank through filters and folwmeters to the horizontal test section where it is heated by steam condensing on the outside of the tubes. The pressure drop across the test section is measured by menas pressure gauge and manometer. The results obtained in this study is as follows : 1. Based on inside diameter and nominal inside area, overall heat transfer coefficients of finned tube are enhanced up to 1.6 ~ 3.7 times that of a plain tube at a constant Reynolds number. 2. Friction factors are up to 1.6 ~ 2.1 times those of plain tubes. 3. The constant pumping power ratio for the low integral-fin tubes increase directly with the effective area to the nominal area ratio, and with the effective area diameter ratio. 4. A tube having a fin density of 1299fpm and 30 grooves has the best heat transfer performance.
In order to understand the package crack emanating from the edge of leadframe after the delamination between leadframe and epoxy molding compound in an electronic packaging of surface mounting type, the M-integral and J-integral in fracture mechanics are obtained. The effects of geometry, material properties and molding process temperature on the package crack are investigated taking into account the temperature dependence of the material properties, which simulates a more realistic condition. If the temperature dependence of the material properties is considered the result of analysis conforms with observations that the crack is kinked at between 50 and 65 degree. However, in case of constant material properties at the room temperature it is found that the J-integral is underestimated and the kink crack angle is different form the observation. The effects of the material properties and molding process temperature on J-integral and crack angle are less significant that the chip size for the cases considered here. It is suggested that the geometric factors such as ship size, leadframe size are to be well designed in order to prevent(or control) the occurrence and propagation of the package crack.
