  • Like the conventional digital storage systems, volume holographic memory can be deteriorated by burst errors due to its high-density storage characteristics. These burst errors are used byoptical defects such as scratches, dust particles, etc. and are two-dimensional in a data page. To deal with these errors, we introduce some concepts for describing them and propose efficient two- dimensional interleaving schemes. The schemes are two-dimensional lattices of an error-correction code word and have equilateral triangular and square structures. Using these structures, we can minimize the number of code words that are interleaved and improve the efficiency of the system. For large size burst errors, the efficient interleaving structure is an equilateral triangular lattice. However, for some small size burst errors, it is reduced to a square lattice.

  • In this paper, a Gaussian apodization technique applied to a transmission volume hologram for holographic demultiplexer is proposed. The Gaussian apodized grating of 15 mm ${\times}$ 11mm size, $38{\mu}m$ thickness and 3.2 mm horizontal standard deviation of the Gaussian index modulation profile was fabricated. A 22-channel demultiplexer based on that grating has been optically demonstrated. The channel spacing, the interchannel cross-talk level and the channel uniformity of 0.8 nm, -30 dB and 1.5 dB, respectively, were obtained.

  • Formation of intensity gratings was studied with two s-polarized (s+s) configuration in polymer liquid crystals (PLCs) containing a photochromic moiety (azobenzene) and a mesogenic unit (tolane, T-AB; cyanobiphenyl, CB-AB) by photoinduced alignment of PLCs. Remarkable differences were observed between the two PLCs. T-AB showed a faster response to the change in the diffraction intensity than CB-AB. In T-AB, alignment change took place faster than that of CB-AB. By introducing the tolane unit at the side chain, we obtained a diffraction efficiency of 30 % in the Raman-Nath regime

  • In this paper, an adaptive equalizer which has been widely used in communication channel and high-density storage system was adopted to mitigate ISI and improve BER generated during storage and retrieval process of the digital holographic memory system. Our experimental results show that the BER performance with an adaptive equalizer is improved about 19.6% on average compared to the binary-decision process by global thresholding. lding.

  • An experimental model is investigated in this paper using the experimental method with a shock tube and the numerical technique. The shock-vortex interaction generated by this model is visualized with various methods: holographic interferometry, shodowgraphy, and numerical computation. In terms of shock dynamics, there are two meaningful physics in the present problem. They are reflective wave from the slip layer at the vortex edge and transmitted shock penetrating the vortex core. The discussion in this study is mainly focused on the two kinds of waves contributing to the quadrupolar pressure distribution around the vortex center during the interaction.

  • By controlling the pixel of a LCD spatial light modulator electronically, we made a real-time moving window passing through the light on a LCD spatial light modulator. By using this LCD moving window, we suggested an angular multiplexed holographic memory system and in case of windows of 10$\times$10 pixels and 2$\times$2 pixels the total numbers of address are 1,536 and 38,400, respectively. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method, we recorded and reconstructed 30 images by 30 input addresses.

  • Nowadays, Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry is a well-established measuring technique with a wide range of industrial applications, particularly in the fields of deformation measurement and vibration analysis. Comparing with holographic interferometry, it has some attractive features, which are rapid recording and reconstruction, satisfiable automation etc. The Time-Average ESPI is used to provide vibration mode shape of an object whose vibration amplitude is given as a fringe pattern. Its merit is rapid and simple measurement for vibrating object. However, it is not possible to determine the direction of motions of a point on the object at any given time, because it does not give any information about the phase of vibration. But, Stroboscopic ESPI can measure the amplitude and phase of vibrating surface. In this paper, loudspeakers were tested by these two methods. As a result, we can assume that these techniques will be applied directly in the loudspeaker industry.
