  • This article deals with the problem of testing on the common mean of several normal populations. We propose Bayesian hypothesis testing procedures for the common normal mean under the noninformative prior. The noninformative prior is usually improper and yields a calibration problem that makes the Bayes factor to be defined u to a multiplicative constant. So we propose the default Bayesian hypothesis testing procedures based on the fractional Bayes factor and the intrinsic Bayes factors under the reference priors. Simulation study and an example are provided.

  • We propose the Bayesian testing for the equality of two independent Inverse Gaussian population means using the fractional Bayesian factors suggested by O' Hagan(1995). As prior distribution for the parameters, we assumed the noninformative priors. In order to investigate the usefulness of the proposed Bayesian testing procedures, the behaviors of the proposed results are examined via real data analysis.

  • Under the assumption of default priors, such as noninformative priors, Bayesian model determination and parameter estimation of regression models with stationary and invertible ARMA errors are developed under exact full likelihoods. The default Bayes factors, the fractional Bayes factor (FBF) of O'Hagan (1995) and the arithmetic intrinsic Bayes factors (AIBF) of Berger and Pericchi (1996a), are used as tools for the selection of the Bayesian model. Bayesian estimates are obtained by running the Metropolis-Hastings subchain in the Gibbs sampler. Finally, the results of numerical studies, designed to check the performance of the theoretical results discussed here, are presented.

  • This paper suggests a new diagnostic measure and a stopping rule for detecting influential observations in multiple discriminant analysis (MDA). It is developed from a Bayesian point of view using a default Bayes factor obtained from the fractional Bayes factor methodology. The Bayes factor is taken as a discriminatory information in MDA. It is shown that the effect of an observation over the discriminatory information is fully explained by the diagnostic measure. Based on the measure, we suggest a stopping rule for detecting influential observations in a given training sample. As a tool for interpreting the measure a graphical method is sued. Performance of the method is used. Performance of the method is examined through two illustrative examples.

  • This article deals with the problem of multiple hypothesis testing for the shape parameter in the generalized exponential distribution. We propose Bayesian hypothesis testing procedures for multiple hypotheses of the shape parameter with the noninformative prior. The Bayes factor with the noninformative prior is not well defined. The reason is that the most of the noninformative prior can be improper. Therefore we study the default Bayesian multiple hypothesis testing methods using the fractional and intrinsic Bayes factors with the reference priors. Simulation study is performed and an example is given.

  • When X and Y have independent normal distributions, we develop a Bayesian testing procedure for the equality of two coefficients of variation. Under the reference prior of the coefficient of variation, we propose a Bayesian test procedure for the equality of two coefficients of variation using fractional Bayes factor. A real data example is provided.

  • In this paper, we consider multiple comparisons for the ratio of the failure rates in two components system that the lifetimes of the components have independent exponential distributions. Also we suggest Bayesian multiple comparisons procedure based on fractional Bayes factor when noninformative priors are applied for the parameters. Finally, we give numerical examples to illustrate our procedure.

  • In this paper, we consider the Bayesian hypotheses testing for independence in bivariate exponential model. In Bayesian testing problem, we use the noninformative priors for parameters which are improper and are defined only up to arbitrary constants. And we use the recently proposed hypotheses testing criterion called the fractional Bayes factor. Also we give some numerical results to illustrate our results.

  • Tweedie (1957a) proposed a method for the analysis of residuals from an inverse Gaussian population paralleling the analysis of variance in normal theory. He called it the analysis of reciprocals. In this paper, we propose a Bayesian model selection procedure based on the fractional Bayes factor for the analysis of reciprocals. Using the proposed model procedures, we compare with the classical tests.
