  • Grossman [7] showed that certain cyclically pinched 1-relator groups have residually finite outer automorphism groups. In this paper we prove that tree products of finitely generated free groups amalgamating maximal cyclic subgroups have residually finite outer automorphism groups. We also prove that polygonal products of finitely generated central subgroup separable groups amalgamating trivial intersecting central subgroups have residually finite outer automorphism groups.

  • Let E be a free product of a finite number of cyclic groups, and S a normal subgroup of E such that $$E/S{\sim_=}G$$ is finite. For a prime p, $\hat{S}=S/S^{\prime}S^p$ may be regarded as an $F_pG$-module via conjugation in E. The aim of this article is to prove that $\hat{S}$ is decomposable into two indecomposable modules for finite elementary abelian p-groups G.

  • Computing square, cube and n-th roots in general, in finite fields, are important computational problems with significant applications to cryptography. One interesting approach to computational problems is by using polynomial representations. Agou, Del$\acute{e}$eglise and Nicolas proved results concerning the lower bounds for the length of polynomials representing square roots modulo a prime p. We generalize the results by considering n-th roots over finite fields for arbitrary n > 2.

  • We introduce an extrapolated Crank-Nicolson characteristic finite element method to approximate solutions of a convection dominated Sobolev equation. We obtain the higher order of convergence in both the spatial direction and the temporal direction in $L^2$ normed space for the extrapolated Crank-Nicolson characteristic finite element method.

  • We analyze a posteriori error estimator for the conforming P2 finite element on triangular meshes which is based on the solution of local Neumann problems. This error estimator extends the one for the conforming P1 finite element proposed in [4]. We prove that it is asymptotically exact for the Poisson equation when the underlying triangulations are mildly structured and the solution is smooth enough.

  • An arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) finite element method has been developed. The finite element formation is derived and implemented for rigid-viscoplastic materials. The developed computer program is applied to the analysis of axisymmetric square die extrusion, which has many difficulties with updated Lagrangian approach. The results are compared with those from updated Largrangian approach. The results are compared with those from updated Lagrangian finite element program. Updating scheme of time dependent variables and mesh control are also examined.

  • In this paper we show that for each finite frame for a Hilbert space there are two orthonormal elements related to the optimal lower and upper bounds of the frame. Based on this we show that an orthonormal basis is naturally associated with every finite frame. We then analyze the relationship between such an orthonormal basis and the given finite frame.

  • We introduce a Crank-Nicolson characteristic finite element method to construct approximate solutions of a nonlinear Sobolev equation with a convection term. And for the Crank-Nicolson characteristic finite element method, we obtain the higher order of convergence in the temporal direction and in the spatial direction in $L^2$ normed space.

  • Mechanical anchorage can substitute a standard hook. To enhance the workability and economical benefit of mechanical anchorage, the size of anchor plate should be optimized. In this paper, the pull-out behaviors such as strength, failure mode, and crack patterns of mechanically anchored reinforcement in concrete are investigated using nonlinear finite element analysis. The nonlinear finite element analysis results are consistent with the experimental results. These results show that the optimal anchor plates can be designed using the nonlinear finite element analysis.
