The importance of start-ups and venture companies in the Korean economy is growing. However, the successful growth of startups and venture companies are still challenging as 70% of startups fail within 5 years. A new perspective on innovation is essential to overcome the liability of newness and the liability of smallness in the existing market and obtain the competitive advantage. Recent phenomenon in the Korean startups ecosystem is the remarkable growth of unicorns and future unicorns. Their business models, types of business, and success cases serve as a good example. Neverthless, the process of unicorn and future unicorn startups making new industries and innovative business has poorly understood. In this paper, we first define 175 unicorns and future unicorn startups participating in the K-unicorn project as a unicorn group and analyze current trends of the group. Then the in-depth analyses of industry sectors are conducted. Specifically, focusing on the unicorn forming the new market, we examine the unicorn making the processes of industry category innovation through the business innovation model. Lastly, broadening the scope of the analysis to the unicorn group, policy implications in startups and venture ecosystem are suggested.

This study examines the effects of failure experience, re-startup's motivation, government support business and education for re-startup on the performance of re-startup firms after failure. In addition, we analyzed how the above factors affect the performance of re-startup firms by the condition of debt and credit problems. As a result of the analysis, the failure experience had no significant effect on the re-startup performance regardless of the credit problem, while re-startup's motivation, government support business and education for re-startup had a significant effect on re-startup firms' performance. In the re-startup group with the credit problem, the re-startup's motivation and the failure experience had a significant influence on the re-startup firms' performance. On the other hand, in the group that did not solve the credit problem, the re-startup's motivation and the failure experience had no significant effect on the re-startup performance, but the government support business and education for re-startup had a significant effect on re-startup performance. The results of this study are as follows: First, it shows that the characteristics of re-startups and the determinants of re-startups are different according to credit problems. Second, this study shows that it takes 56 months on average from the close of business to the re-start, and it may take more than 7 years due to the credit problems and bankruptcy. This suggests the necessity to consider re-startup in the concept of obsolete in consideration of time, when studying the direct/indirect influence of failure experience and re-startup, and establishing policy.

Thus this study looked into existing literature focusing on generalities, and after literature studies, hypothesis was set up to solve the problems in the study. According to literature examination, self employed consulting was found to be comprised of four areas: awareness, reliability, satisfaction, and utilization, while consulting could be divided into four customer perspectives: customer, financial, internal processing, and learning and growth. An empirical study was conducted to verify the causal relationship between these causes, and we describe the findings of the study on the business management performance pursuant to self employed business consulting as follows: In this study, we examine an overall business management performance measurement by adopting the four variables of self employed business consulting, and enhance the chance of success by having systematic access to business establishment. In conclusion, in order to increase the success rate of the small business start-up, it is important to choose such items that fit the founder's experience and the characteristics of the business zone, and a successful founding of a business will be accomplished only when sufficient funding is combined with successful running, therefore, most importantly, striking a balance between the factors should start with the founder as the center, and there must be professional business knowledge and technical assistance by the business start-up support agency.

To determine the effect of employment stability by business incubator manager on the service level and management performance by new businesses, the survey of 215 businesses at 50 business incubator centers over the country was conducted. This study is to confirm that employment stability by business incubator manager is one of significant variables to support growth of new businesses. As a result of study, with respect to the effect of employment stability by business incubator manager on the supportive service level and management performance by new businesses, the group with higher employment stability by manager revealed statistically more significant effect than the group with less did, and the group with higher employment stability showed higher manager performance as well. Furthermore, as a result of analyzing the relationship between supportive service level and management performance and performance by manager, as performance by manager is higher, the service satisfaction and management performance by new businesses were higher. This indicates that to support successful new business by the business incubator, the center shall ensure employment stability of a manager to establish the condition of stable support for new businesses, and that through enhancement of professionalism by a manager, the foundation to support growth of new businesses shall be prepared as well.

There are various performance factors for SMEs in order to survive in the rapid changing market and it is discussing the importance of entrepreneurs' entrepreneurial orientation based on many researches. Thus, it is worth to analyze factors of seize new opportunity and firm's performance to build sustainable competitive advantages, which provide the directions to SMEs. This study investigates through exploratory research that the important factors of entrepreneurial orientation and the influence factors on firm's performance confirmed by empirical study. This study was conducted to explore the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation of SME CEO, learning orientation and corporate performance was verified following section. First, entrepreneurial orientation (pro-activeness, competitive aggressiveness, risk taking, innovativeness) was to examine the effect of learning orientation; Second, entrepreneurial orientation was to examine the impact on firm's performance; and in the last, validated learning orientation affect factors that are mediated between entrepreneurship orientation and firm's performance through empirical research. The results of this study, each SME have shown that they have a different impact on firm's performance based on a variety of entrepreneurial orientation. This result shows that the need for a separate independent study on entrepreneurial orientation of SMEs. In conclusion, this study implicates that entrepreneurial orientation is important role for firm's performance, entrepreneurs of SMEs are innovative rather than competitive aggressive, and risk taking activities positively affect firm's activity. The conclusions of this study would be utilized to develop the entrepreneurial orientation when necessary for entrepreneurs of SMEs.

The importance of technology commercialization is being emphasized more and more, but high technology excellence does not always lead to a successful business. In addition, companies that invest heavily in basic research and technology development are also not always able to guarantee high profits. This is due to the technical problems when present in step research and development levels are difficult to commercialize. And the market will not work rationally is also the cause of the problem. Therefore, to effectively utilize the resources necessary to ensure such partners to build alliances and cooperation with external funding or manpower is crucial to commercialize the research results of basic science successfully. In previous studies, it has been made many studies in accordance with the approach to the technology (e.g. Research and Development, Management of Technology, Technology Innovation, etc.). But the study of technology commercialization point of view is not being done much. This study should explores the available business required, or realized in the process of researching the basic science and trying to understand the imperfections of the market through the property of technology (tacit knowledge, objectified value of technology and the information asymmetry between innovation subjects, etc.). In addition, this paper, we try to focus on a strategic approach to the role of International Science Business Belt (ISBB) with success in science and technology business as appropriate countermeasures about breaking the 'Valley of Death.

As the digital economy has emerged as a means of building a new business order and creating new values, the number of small business owners participating in digital platforms is gradually increasing. This study aims to check whether small business owners participating in the digital platform are being helped to properly respond to the market environment and establish and implement strategies necessary for growth through learning within the platform. To this end, this study attempted to examine the effect of the absorptive capacity of small business owners using e-commerce platforms on market orientation and the moderating effect of vicarious learning and experiential learning, which are two types of learning within the platform. As a result of verifying the hypothesis through the survey, it was found that the absorption capacity of small business owners using digital platforms positively affected their market orientation. In addition, as a result of the moderating effect analysis, it was found that vicarious learning within the platform strengthens the relationship between absorptive capacity and market orientation. This result implies that small business owners can not only prepare for market uncertainties through indirect learning (vicarious learning) but also establish strategies to provide products and services that meet the market's needs. On the other hand, the effect of experiential learning was found to lower market orientation, which means that previous business experiences can rather lower attention to the environment. The significance and implications of the study were presented.
Business Incubators(BI) guide starting-up firms through their growth process and as such constitute a strong instrument to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. This study classified the incubating services into communication, physical facilities, human resources, marketing, financial, legal, technology, and networking services. The research problem was tested with data from 103 BI centers and 561 starting-up firms in BI. The results from the survey are as follows: First, incubating services to important for the BI's performance are networking, communication, human resources, physical facilities, and marketing services. Second, the incubating services to satisfy on the firms in the BI are financial, human resources, marketing, communication, networking, and physical facilities services. Third, there are the differences between BI center and the firms in the BI by each incubating service except communication service. Finally, the results of MSEM(Multi-group Structured Equation Modeling) indicate the communication and networking services are more strongly affected to the performance at the BI centers. Vice versa, the marketing and financial services are more strongly affected to the satisfaction at the firms in the BI centers. Starting-up firms in business incubators showed strong desire to receive better support in such fields as marketing and financial services. BI needs to recognize such demand and provide improved services in such areas. Starting-up firms did not recognize the utility and importance of services in networking with other firms and supporting human resources. BI needs to promote services in such areas. Concerning communication services and physical facility support service, both BI and starting-up firms showed satisfactory levels of services.

Business ecosystem is becoming more inclined towards platform ecosystem, which attracts multi-side participants based on digital technology. The burgeoning interest in digital ecosystem leads to the rapid rise of research. In this paper, we suggest a research agenda, focusing on the benefits of complementors in platform ecosystem. First, we outline the extant papers on benefits from platform to participants from economic perspective, strategic management perspective, technology management perspective, and economic sociological perspective to provide comprehensive understanding about platform ecosystem. Second, we suggest systemic framework to provide integrative insights on the the topic of benefit from platform to complementors- (1) open innovation view, (2) economic performance view, and (3) sociological view. Specifically, we focus on empirical studies that investigate the relationship between the benefits from platform and spillover effects on complementors based on various dataset. In addition, by reviewing the past empirical research, we suggest future research agenda and implications for policy in platform ecosystem.

Cultural industry along with cultural content that forms the center of cultural industry is the field whose interest is continually increasing due to the increase of weight in the national economy and the strengthening of importance in future value. Cultural content, particularly, accounts for the essential position in starting a business around one-person business, which recently arouses high interest in a nation. However, it is true that the debates on the rapid growth and identity of cultural content in contrast to the reinforcement of its position, and the criticisms about the lack in development of material and cultural content in staring a business show the limitation of overall cultural content in Korea. This research examines recognition of cultural industry or cultural content through terminologies of definition as well as the relationships of configures in accordance with the outcome of cultural content. Findings demonstrate that cultural content in Korea revealed the highest cultural orientation which is the same as existing interpretations, and as comparison objects, entertainment industry in the U.S. and creative industry in the UK contained the highest part of entertainment and creativity respectively. It reflects that mythical elements of language that has been discussed from the structuralist perspectives are projected in the relevant field. In conclusion, the conceptual definition of cultural content has the structure to project advantages and disadvantages of existing culture, and this limitation needs to be overcome in securing the items and business value in starting a business.
