With the advent of the AI, the need to use AI in the field of education is widely recognized. The purpose of this study is to shed light on how prospective mathematics teachers perceive the need for AI and the role of teachers in future mathematics education. As a result, with regard to teaching, prospective teachers recognized that the use of AI in school mathematics is a demand of a new era, that various types of lesson can be implemented, and that accurate knowledge and information can be delivered. On the other hand, they recognized that AI has limitations in having cognitive and emotional interactions with students. As for mathematics learning, the prospective teachers recognized that AI can provide individualized learning, be used for supplementary learning outside of school, and stimulate students' interest in learning. However, they also said that learning through AI could undermine students' ability to think on their own. With regard to assessment, the prospective teachers recognized that AI is objective, fair and can reduce teachers' workload, but they also said that AI has limitations in evaluating students' abilities in constructed-response items and in process-focused assessment. The roles of teachers that the prospective teachers think were to conduct a lesson, emotional interaction, unstructured assessment, and counseling, and those of AI were individualized learning, rote learning, structured assessment, and administrative works.

As the recent demand for human resources in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), the development of professional STEM teacher is called worldwide. It is becoming a critical need in teacher education in order to educate student teachers, and prepare pre-service and beginning teachers for high quality of teaching competency. To promote the competency for $21^{st}$ century STEM teachers, the epistemology of technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) is currently considered as the essential qualities of knowledge for highly qualified teachers. The aim of this study is explore the effect of case-based learning approach on TPACK competency of pre-service STEM teachers. In order to develop the pre-service teachers' competency regarding effective integration of technologies into teaching specific content areas, a series of innovative case study teaching in science and mathematics was presented to 43 participants of pre-service physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and computer teachers during a course of information and communication technology (ICT) in Education at Khon Kaen University, Thailand. After finishing a case presentation, the pre-service teachers were encouraged into a forum of critical open discussion by considering the potential impact of the case and the TPACK framework. They were investigated instructional design competency of using ICT tools into student learning process and their personal beliefs about ICT in educational process both before and after. The participant's reactions and learning was evaluated by using a self-reported questionnaire and an implementation log of content-specific learning process design, respectively. Results showed a change of their beliefs and the transformation of their TPACK competency in STEM teaching. In an effort to better serve the needs of high quality STEM teachers, the results of this study illustrated that the competency of TPACK could be particularly considered as a core attributes for future STEM teachers. By the way, case-based learning approach can play an effective part in preparing and professing the TPACK competency for STEM teachers.

According to the paradigm of Neo-liberalism, the issue of ability grouping has grown more and more in education of Korea. And because of the influence of ability grouping, now ability grouping is enforcing partially in the subjects of English and Mathematics. But ability grouping is going to expand to the all subjects. So, it is very important that how teachers and students are recognize about partial ability grouping in the subjects of English and Mathematics. Because that information about partial ability grouping can guide direction for the future educational policy. The purpose of this study was to actually analyze teacher's and students' recognition of partial ability grouping in the subjects of English and Mathematics. To accomplish this purpose, 622 middles school students and 552 teachers were sampled. As a tool of investigation, questionnaires about teacher's and students' recognition of partial ability grouping had made by researcher of this study were used. And as processing of data, t-test, F-test, Scheff-test were used. The result of this study is as follow. First, teachers who are experiencing ability grouping recognized more negative about ability grouping than teachers who are not experiencing ability grouping. Second, students who have low ability recognized more negative about ability grouping than students who have high ability. Third, teachers who are experiencing ability grouping recognized more ineffective about ability grouping than teachers who are not experiencing ability grouping. Fourth, students who have low ability recognized more ineffective about ability grouping than students who have high ability.
The purpose of this study through ethnographic inquiry is to describe how an elementary teacher teaches mathematics with understanding. The ways that teachers'beliefs affect instructional activities, what means understanding from the view of cognitive psychology, and ethnographic research tradition were reviewed to anchor theoretical background of this study. A third-grade teacher and his 45 students were selected in order to capture vivid and thick descriptions of the teaching and learning activities of mathematics. Three major sources of data, that is, participant-observation with video taping, formal and informal interviews with the teacher and his students, and a variety of official documents were collected. These data were analyzed through two phases: data analysis in the field and after the fieldwork. According to data analysis, ‘teaching mathematics with understanding’ was identified as the teachers central belief of teaching mathematics. In order to implement his belief in teaching practices, the teacher made use of three strategies: ⑴ valuing individual student's own way of understanding, ⑵ bring students' everyday experiences into mathematics classroom, and ⑶ lesson objectivies stated by students. It is suggested for future research that concrete and specific norms of mathematics classroom for the improvement of mathematics understanding are needed to be identified and that experienced and skillful teachers' practical knowledge should be incorporated with theories of teaching mathematics and necessarily paid more attention by mathematics educators.
Since the second comprehensive mathematics education plan was announced in 2012, many policies have been implemented based on it. However, due to many changes in various social situations and revision of the curriculum, new plans and policy proposals for mathematics education are strongly required. But, we need to recognize what the changes in the current social and educational situation ask for education in order to make meaningful policy. Therefore, in this study, we intend to develop an appropriate questionnaire to investigate mathematics teachers' perceptions and educational status of mathematics by analyzing former domestic and international studies on the related field and reflecting the educational situation in Korea. When developing questions, experts' opinions were consulted and preliminary on-site survey studies were conducted to maintain the suitability and reliability of the questions. Through these procedure, 33 questions were developed in three areas: teachers' recognition on mathematics education, educational status of mathematics education, and ICT utilization. It will be used as a tool to investigate math teachers' perception and current status of mathematics education and the results from this survey will be useful for developing mathematics education policies for the future.
The objective of this study is to search the recognition of teacher on the pattern and characteristics of the questioning sentence of the newly appointed teachers for the mathematics class through the case study for the 2ndyear teachers. The study participants' class was recorded in video and individual interview was made for 4 times. The pattern of the questioning sentence in the observed class was analyzed using the classification frame with addition of creativity related items to the classification frame suggested by Mogan & Saxton(2006). The questioning sentence and recognition on the mathematics class for the newly appointed teachers were analyzed based on the individual meeting and class materials. In result, the questioning sentence for confirmation was most frequent (69%) and questioning sentence of understanding (25%) and the questioning sentence for introspection (6%) in its priority. It was known that the questioning sentence for extending the creativity didn't make it at all. It was revealed that the participant teachers in this study used the questioning sentence pattern for fact confirmation of the student most frequently and the use of the questioning sentence for accelerating the creative thinking of the student was lacked. In addition, the teachers recognized that they manage the class oriented to questioning sentence for obtaining the concept. It was known that the education for the questioning sentence which accelerates the creativity and other thinking as well as the fact confirmation pattern is necessary through the training for the new teachers in the future.
The purpose of this study is to investigate preservice secondary mathematics teachers' knowledge about graphical representation and provide implications for better mathematics teaching and learning in our schools. For this purpose, sixty-three preservice teachers were selected and given diverse graphical representation problems of y=1, y=x, x=0, $x^2+y^2=1$. All preservice teachers completed two types of questionnaires. First type is about constructing the graphs of the above each equation, and the second one is to make them find the appropriate graphs from given examples of the each equation. The results indicated that all the participant pre service teachers were unable to construct graphs in terms of various dimensions and various direction of coordinate axis. All of the participants represented the graph of each equation on only two-dimensional coordinate system. In addition, some preservice teachers believed that the axis of coordinates have to be x-axis on horizontal line and y-axis on vertical line. From this study, it is implicated that pre service teacher education program needs to provide the experience of representing the graphs of equation in terms of various dimensions and various direction of coordinate axis so as to develop their future students the flexibility and creativity in mathematical thinking especially in the area of space perception.
This article represents a survey on the Romanian mathematics education. we emphasize not only some of recent, specific and significant Romanian methods concerning the teaching and learning of mathematics, starting from the pre-school and primary level to the university mathematics education, but also the role of the national and international mathematical competitions, the education of mathematics teacher, the formation of the researchers in mathematics, their contributions and perspectives, the mathematics education in society and culture, the technology in mathematics education, links between research and practice, topical developments and for the future and other related topics.
Teachers' philosophies have not been emphasized enough in the current teacher education curriculum even though teacher's philosophy palys a critical role in schools and classrooms. The examination on pre-service teachers' teaching philosophies is necessary to improve teacher education curriculum so that teaching philosophies are often discussed in the courses of 'pedagogical content knowledge' as well as 'general education.' Therefore, the current study investigated 44 pre-service teachers' teaching philosophies, their sub domains, and relationships among the sub domains. The previous studies regarding mathematics teacher's teaching philosophy were more about 'teacher's belief' and employed deductive inference approach using surveys or questionnaires. These studies commonly pointed out that there were three major domains of 'belief on mathematics itself,' 'belief on teaching mathematics,' and 'belief on learning mathematics.' As these three domains of teacher's philosophy has been strengthened, there were very few studies examining the other potential domains of teacher's teaching philosophy. According to the findings of the present study, which employed inductive inference approach and pre-service teachers' free essay writing assignment, 'belief on teacher's role in mathematics classroom,' 'belief on the purpose of mathematics education,' and 'motivation to be a mathematics teacher' were additionally illuminated as sub domains of teacher's teaching philosophy. Moreover, the interrelationship among the sub-areas of teacher's teaching philosophy was disclosed. Specifically, 'belief on the purpose of mathematics education' and 'motivation to be a mathematics teacher' influenced the other sub domains. This implies that the relationships among the sub domains of teacher's teaching philosophy were more likely to be causal and vertical relationships rather than independent and parallel relationships. Finally, the findings from the current study provide implications indicating how pre-service teachers' teaching philosophies might be established in mathematics education courses for future research and education.
In K-12 education, reassessment is a common practice, providing students with opportunities to enhance their understanding through low-stakes assignments. However, reassessment is underutilized in higher education, including during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our study advocates for expanding the use of reassessment in university settings to promote holistic learning and focus on what shifts of change were made by students in an initial mathematics content course as they sought to gain licensure for teaching in a birth (daycare/pre-K setting) to eighth-grade classrooms. Our study took place during COVID-19 semesters and aimed to examine how using a reassessment approach early on in a gateway course for Prospective Teachers (PTs) affected the pass rate of the course. Results showed significant differences between the PTs who engaged with the test recovery and those who did not. We propose recovery opportunities like ours provide the necessary guidance to support early degree necessary classes that are typically gatekeeping and, as another, likely cause too few students within the courses because they were able to advance into the teacher pipeline and out into the field. Future studies may consider how the reassessment could be done more before the official summative assessment of a unit or chapter to continue the shifts in teaching practices and pedagogy that are constant within the K-12 education systems at the university level.
