  • Let $k$ be a real abelian field and $k_{\infty}={\bigcup}_{n{\geq}0}k_n$ be its $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension for an odd prime $p$. For each $n{\geq}0$, we denote the class number of $k_n$ by $h_n$. The following is a well known theorem: Theorem. Suppose $p$ remains inert in $k$ and the prime ideal of $k$ above $p$ totally ramifies in $k_{\infty}$. Then $p{\nmid}h_0$ if and only if $p{\nmid}h_n$ for all $n{\geq}0$. The aim of this paper is to generalize above theorem: Theorem 1. Suppose $H^1(G_n,E_n){\simeq}(\mathbb{Z}/p^n\mathbb{Z})^l$, where $l$ is the number of prime ideals of $k$ above $p$. Then $p{\nmid}h_0$ if and only if $p{\nmid}h_n$. Theorem 2. Let $k$ be a real quadratic field. Suppose that $H^1(G_1,E_1){\simeq}(\mathbb{Z}/p\mathbb{Z})^l$. Then $p{\nmid}h_0$ if and only if $p{\nmid}h_n$ for all $n{\geq}0$.

  • In this paper, we obtain that if $\psi : E \to F$ is a fibrewise fibration then postcomposition $\psi :C_B(Y, E) \to C_B(Y, F)$ is fibrewise fibration and if (X, A) is a closed fibrewise cofibration the the precomposition $\upsilon :C_B(X, E) \to C_B(A, E)$ is also a fibrewise fibration.

  • In this paper the following is proved: Let L be a subspace lattice on a Hilbert space H and X and Y be operators acting on a Hilbert space H. If XE = EX for each E ${\in}$ L, then there exists an operator A in AlgL such that AX = Y if and only if sup $\left{\frac{\parallel{XEf}\parallel}{\parallel{YEf}\parallel}\;:\;f{\in}H,\;E{\in}L\right}$ = K < $\infty$ and YE=EYE. Let x and y be non-zero vectors in H. Let Px be the orthogonal pro-jection on sp(x). If EPx = PxE for each E $\in$ L, then the following are equivalent. (1) There exists an operator A in AlgL such that Ax = y. (2) < f, Ey > y =< f, Ey > Ey for each E ${\in}$ L and f ${\in}$ H.

  • Let h be a meromorphic function with few poles and zeros. By Nevanlinna's value distribution theory we prove some new properties on the polynomials in h with the coefficients being small functions of h. We prove that if f is a meromorphic function and if $f^m$ is identically a polynomial in h with the constant term not vanish identically, then f is a polynomial in h. As an application, we are able to find the entire solutions of the differential equation of the type $$f^n+P(f)=be^{sz}+Q(e^z)$$, where P(f) is a differential polynomial in f of degree at most n-1, and Q($e^z$) is a polynomial in $e^z$ of degree k $\leqslant$ max {n-1, s(n-1)/n} with small functions of $e^z$ as its coefficients.

  • Observing that for any $\beta_c$-Wallman functor $A$ and any Tychonoff space X, there is a cover $(C_1(A(X), X), c_1)$ of X such that X is $A$-disconnected if and only if $c_1 : C_1(A(X), X) \longrightarrow X$ is a homeomorphism, we show that every Tychonoff space has the minimal $A$-disconnected cover. We also show that if X is weakly Lindelof or locally compact zero-dimensional space, then the minimal G-disconnected (equivalently, cloz)-cover is given by the space $C_1(A(X), X)$ which is a dense subspace of $E_cc(\betaX)$.

  • Suppose that $\mu$ is a finite positive Borel measure on bounded symmetric domain $\Omega{\subset}\mathbb{C}^n\;and\;\nu$ is the Euclidean volume measure such that $\nu(\Omega)=1$. Suppose 1 < p < $\infty$ and r > 0. In this paper, we will show that the norms $sup\{\int_\Omega{\mid}k_z(w)\mid^2d\mu(w)\;:\;z\in\Omega\}$, $sup\{\int_\Omega{\mid}h(w)\mid^pd\mu(w)/\int_\Omega{\mid}h(w)^pd\nu(w)\;:\;h{\in}L_a^p(\Omega,d\nu),\;h\neq0\}$ and $$sup\{\frac{\mu(E(z,r))}{\nu(E(z,r))}\;:\;z\in\Omega\}$$ are are all equivalent. We will also show that the inclusion mapping $ip\;:\;L_a^p(\Omega,d\nu){\rightarrow}L^p(\Omega,d\mu)$ is compact if and only if lim $w\rightarrow\partial\Omega\frac{\mu(E(w,r))}{\nu(E(w,r))}=0$.

  • D.K. Harrison [5] has shown that if R and S are fields of characteristic different from 2, then two Witt rings W(R) and W(S) are isomorphic if and only if W(R)/I(R)$^{3}$ and W(S)/I(S)$^{3}$ are isomorphic where I(R) and I(S) denote the fundamental ideals of W(R) and W(S) respectively. In [1], J.K. Arason and A. Pfister proved a corresponding result when the characteristics of R and S are 2, and, in [9], K.I. Mandelberg proved the result when R and S are commutative semi-local rings having 2 a unit. In this paper, we prove the result when R and S are 2-fold full rings. Throughout this paper, unless otherwise specified, we assume that R is a commutative ring having 2 a unit. A quadratic space (V, B, .phi.) over R is a finitely generated projective R-module V with a symmetric bilinear mapping B: V*V.rarw.R which is nondegenerate (i.e., the natural mapping V.rarw.Ho $m_{R}$ (V, R) induced by B is an isomorphism), and with a quadratic mapping .phi.:V.rarw.R such that B(x,y)=(.phi.(x+y)-.phi.(x)-.phi.(y))/2 and .phi.(rx)= $r^{2}$.phi.(x) for all x, y in V and r in R. We denote the group of multiplicative units of R by U(R). If (V, B, .phi.) is a free rank n quadratic space over R with an orthogonal basis { $x_{1}$, .., $x_{n}$}, we will write < $a_{1}$,.., $a_{n}$> for (V, B, .phi.) where the $a_{i}$=.phi.( $x_{i}$) are in U(R), and denote the space by the table [ $a_{ij}$ ] where $a_{ij}$ =B( $x_{i}$, $x_{j}$). In the case n=2 and B( $x_{1}$, $x_{2}$)=1/2, we reserve the notation [ $a_{11}$, $a_{22}$] for the space.the space.e.e.e.

  • Interactions between viral proteins and host proteins are essential for virus replication. Especially, translation of viral genes completely depends on the host machinery. In potyviruses, interactions of genome-linked viral protein (VPg) with host translation factors including eIF4E, eIF(iso)4E, and poly(A)-binding protein (PABP) has previously been characterized. In this study, we investigated interactions between Soybean mosaic virus (SMV) viral proteins and host translation factors by yeast two-hybrid system. SMV VPg interacted with eIF4E, eIF(iso)4E, and PABP in yeast two-hybrid system, while SMV helper component proteinase (HC-pro) interacted with neither of those proteins. The interaction between SMV NIb and PABP was also detected. These results are consistent with those reported previously in other potyviruses. Interestingly, we found reproducible and specific interactions between SMV coat protein (CP) and PABP. Deletion analysis showed that the region of CP comprising amino acids 116 to 206 and the region of PABP comprising amino acids 520 to 580 are involved in CP/PABP interactions. Soybean library screening with SMV NIb by yeast two-hybrid assay also identified several soybean proteins including chlorophyll a/b binding preprotein, photo-system I-N subunit, ribulose 1,5-biphosphate carboxylase, ST-LSI protein, translation initiation factor 1, TIR-NBS type R protein, RNA binding protein, ubiquitin, and LRR protein kinase. Altogether, these results suggest that potyviral replicase may comprise a multi-protein complex with PABP, CP, and other host factors.

  • Let X be a locally convex space. A series of clearcut characterizations for the boundedness of vector measure $\mu{\;}:{\;}\sum\rightarrow{\;}X$ is obtained, e.g., ${\mu}$ is bounded if and only if ${\mu}(A_j){\;}\rightarrow{\;}0$ weakly for every disjoint $\{A_j\}{\;}\subseteq{\;}\sum$ and if and only if $\{\frac{1}{j^j}{\mu}(A_j)\}^{\infty}_{j=1}$ is bounded for every disjoint $\{A_j\}{\;}\subseteq{\;}\sum$.

  • Let E be a locally convex Hausdorff space and let $\Gamma$ be a calibration for E. In this note we proved that if E is sequentially complete and a multi-vaiued operaturA in E is $\Gamma$-accretive such that $D(A){\subset}Re$ (I+$\lambda$A) for all sufficiently small positive $\lambda$, then A generates a nonlinear $\Gamma$-contraction semiproup {T(t) ; t>0}. We also proved that if E is complete, $Gamma$ is a dually uniformly convex calibration, and an operator A is m-$\Gamma$-accretive, then the initial value problem $$\{{\frac{d}{dt}u(t)+Au(t)\;\ni\;0,\;t >0,\atop u(0)=x}\.$$ has a solution $u:[0,\infty){\rightarrow}E$ given by $u(t)=T(t)x={lim}\limit_{n\rightarrow\infty}(I+\frac{t}{n}A)^{-n}x$ each $x{\varepsilon}D(A)$.
