  • Recently Manipulation capability is important for a robot. Interaction between a robot hand and objects can be properly controlled only is suitable sensors are available. Recently the tendency is to create robot hands more compact and high integrated sensors system, in order to increase the grasping capability and in order to reduce cabling through the finger, the palm and the arm. As a matter of fact, miniaturization and cabling harness represents a significant limitation to the design of small sized embedded sensor. Ongoing work is focusing on a flexible manipulation system, which consists of a dual flexible multi-fingered hand-arm system, and a dual active vision system.

  • This paper presents how it is effective to use many features for improving the speed and the accuracy of the visual servo systems. Some rank conditions which relate the image Jacobian and the control performance are derived. It is also proven that the accuracy is improved by increasing the number of features. Effectiveness of the redundant features is evaluated by the smallest singular value of the image Jacobian which is closely related to the accuracy with respect to the world coordinate system. Usefulness of the redundant features is verified by the real time experiments on a Dual-Arm Robot manipulator made in Samsung Electronic Co. Ltd.

  • In this paper, we consider the handling f a flexible object using dual-arm manipulators. We choose both the side arms as rigid, and the objects to be manipulated as flexible. Our purpose is to realize position control for the flexible object while suppressing its vibration. In particular, the problem taken up here is the stability of the control system while manipulating the object. We propose that the traditional approach to investigate the robot system be expanded to include the object's characteristics (thus transferring the stability of the robot system into the full assembly system). We define a handling characteristic while manipulating the object. Finally, the relationship between the handling characteristic and the positional constraint condition in the hold position of the arms is studied while considering the stability of the control system.

  • In this paper, we describe a new approach to perform real-time implementation of an robust controller for robotic manipulator based on digital signal processors in this paper. The Texas Instruments DSPs chips are used in implementing real-time adaptive control algorithms to provide enhanced motion control performance for dual-arm robotic manipulators. In the proposed scheme, adaptation laws are derived from model reference adaptive control principle based on the improved direct Lyapunov method. The proposed adaptive controller consists of an adaptive feed-forward and feedback controller and time-varying auxiliary controller elements. The proposed control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for real-time control. Moreover, this scheme does not require any accurate dynamic modeling, nor values of manipulator parameters and payload. Performance of the proposed adaptive controller is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for robot manipulator consisting of dual arm with eight degrees of freedom at the joint space and cartesian space.

  • In this paper, a self-organizing fuzzy controller(SOFC) for the industrial robot manipulator with a actuator located at the base is studied A fuzzy login composed of linguistic conditional statements is employed by defining the relations of input-output variable of the controller, In the synthesis of a FLC, one of the most difficult problems is the determination of linguistic control rules from the human operators. To overcome this difficult SOFC is proposed for a hierarchical control structure consisting of basic level and high level that modify control rules. The proposed SOFC scheme is simple in structure, fast in computations and suitable for implementation of real-time control. Performance of the SOFC is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for robot with low joints.

The Texas Instruments DSPs(TMS320C80) chips are used in implementing real-time adaptive control algorithms to provide enhanced motion control performance for dual-arm robotic manipulators. • There is an increasing need for manufacturing systems to produce batches in small quantities. Such manufacturing systems are significantly difficult to develop with conventional automation equipment. Recently, several research groups have applied industrial dual-arm robots to cell production lines. A synchronization method for robots is necessary for the cell production process when robots work in a shared workspace. Conventional automation factories do not need this method because the main control system operates all of the machines or robots. However, our intended application for the developed robot is in small manufacturing environments that cannot install an expensive main control system. We propose an inexpensive and high-performance method with a simple digital in/out channel using a real-time communication protocol. The developed method was validated in a pilot production line for cellular phone packing.
