  • Modeling nonlinear friction effects is a challenging problem. In this paper, a tracking controller is proposed for a system with uncertain nonlinear friction dynamics. Instead of using a specific friction model, we assume that the friction dynamics are represented by a function, which is unknown except its being continuously differentiable and Lipschitz continuous with known Lipschitz constants. It is shown that the scheme results in friction identification and trajectory position and velocity tracking. The analysis is done using Lyapunov-based stability method.

  • This article is concerned with the problem of estimating the mean of a one-parameter exponential family through sequential sampling in three stages under quadratic error loss. This more general framework differs from those considered by Hall (1981) and others. The differences are : (i) the estimator and the final stage sample size are dependent; and (ii) second order approximation of a continuously differentiable function of the final stage sample size permits evaluation of the asymptotic regret through higher order moments. In particular, the asymptotic regret can be expressed as a function of both the skewness $\rho$ and the kurtosis $\beta$ of the underlying distribution. The conditions on $\rho$ and $\beta$ for which negative regret is expected are discussed. Further results concerning the stopping variable N are also presented. We also supplement our theoretical findings wish simulation results to provide a feel for the triple sampling procedure presented in this study.

  • This paper presents an explanation regarding on-line identification of a fuzzy system. The fuzzy system to be identified is assumed to be in the type of singletion consequent parts and be represented by a linear combination of fuzzy basis function (FBF's). For on-line identification, squared-cosine (SCOS) fuzzy basis function is introduced to reduce the number of parameters to be identified and make the system consistent and differentiable. Then the parameters of the fuzzy system are identified on-line by the gradient search method. Finally, a computer simulation is performed to illustrate the validity of the suggested algorithms.

  • This paper shows the degree of simultaneous neural network approximation for a target function in $C^r$[-1, 1] and its first derivative. We use the Jackson's theorem for differentiable functions to get a degree of approximation to a target function by algebraic polynomials and trigonometric polynomials. We also make use of the de La Vall$\grave{e}$e Poussin sum to get an approximation order by algebraic polynomials to the derivative of a target function. By showing that the divided difference with a generalized translation network can be arbitrarily closed to algebraic polynomials on [-1, 1], we obtain the degree of simultaneous approximation.

  • Let X be a hemicompact space with ($K_{n}$) as an admissible exhaustion, and for each n $\in$ N, $A_{n}$ a Banach function algebra on $K_{n}$ with respect to $\parallel.\parallel_n$ such that $A_{n+1}\midK_{n}$$\subsetA_n$ and${\parallel}f{\mid}K_n{\parallel}_n{\leq}{\parallel}f{\parallel}_{n+1}$ for all f$\in$$A_{n+1}$, We consider the subalgebra A = { f $\in$ C(X) : $\forall_n\;{\epsilon}\;\mathbb{N}$ of C(X) as a frechet function algebra and give a result related to its spectrum when each $A_{n}$ is natural. We also show that if X is moreover noncompact, then any closed subalgebra of A cannot be topologized as a regular Frechet Q-algebra. As an application, the Lipschitzalgebra of infinitely differentiable functions is considered.d.

  • Let I be an open interval and X a complex Banach space. Let$\varepsilon\geq0\;and\;\lambda$ a non-zero complex number with Re $\lambda\neq0$. If $\varphi$ is a strongly differentiable map from I to X with $\parallel\varphi^'(t)-\lambda\varphi(t)\parallel\leq\varepsilon\;for\;all\;t\in\;I$, then we show that the distance between $\varphi$ and the set of all solutions to the differential equation y'=$\lambda$y is at most $\varepsilon/$\mid$Re\lambda$\mid$$.

  • To investigate the flow inside the centrifugal impeller, computer program which can solve Three-dimensional compressible turbulent flow has been developed. The Navier-Stokes equations were chosen as the governing equation for viscous flow while Euler equations for inviscid case. Time marching method was incorporated with the Flux Difference Splitting method suggested by Roe to capture the steep gradients such as a shock. For high order of accuracy, MUSCL approach was adopted while differentiable limiter to ensure TVD property. For turbulence closure, Baldwin- Lomax model was applied due to its simplicity. To demonstrate the capabilities of present program, several validation problems have been solved and compared with experiments and other available data. From the above calculations generally good agreements were obtained. Finally, the developed code was applied to Eckardt's impeller and the performance prediction was carried out. Some important aspects on boundary condition for successful simulation were discussed and the remedy was also introduced.

  • It is well-known that the most interesting non-integrable almost Hermitian manifold are the nearly Kaehlerian manifolds ([2] and [3]), and that there exists a complex but not a Kaehlerian structure on Riemannian product manifolds of two normal contact manifolds [4]. The purpose of the present paper is to study nearly Kaehlerian product manifolds of two almost contact metric manifolds and investigate the geometrical structures of these manifolds. Unless otherwise stated, we shall always assume that manifolds and quantities are differentiable of class $C^{\infty}$. In Paragraph 1, we give brief discussions of almost contact metric manifolds and their Riemannian product manifolds. In paragraph 2, we investigate the perfect conditions for Riemannian product manifolds of two almost contact metric manifolds to be nearly Kaehlerian and the non-existence of a nearly Kaehlerian product manifold of contact metric manifolds. Paragraph 3 will be devoted to a proof of the following; A conformally flat compact nearly Kaehlerian product manifold of two almost contact metric manifolds is isomatric to a Riemannian product manifold of a complex projective space and a flat Kaehlerian manifold..

  • We give characterizations of the differentiability points and the non-differentiability points of the Riesz-N$\'{a}$gy-Tak$\'{a}$cs(RNT) singulr function using the distribution sets in the unit interval. Using characterizations, we show that the Hausdorff dimension of the non-differentiability points of the RNT singular function is greater than 0 and the packing dimension of the infinite derivative points of the RNT singular function is less than 1. Further the RNT singular function is nowhere differentiable in the sense of topological magnitude, which leads to that the packing dimension of the non-differentiability points of the RNT singular function is 1. Finally we show that our characterizations generalize a recent result from the ($\tau$, $\tau$ - 1)-expansion associated with the RNT singular function adding a new result for a sufficient condition for the non-differentiability points.

  • Let $S(R^d)$ be the Schwartz space of infinitely differentiable functions on $R^d$ which vanish at $\infty$ and $S'(R^d)$ be its dual space. The theory of stochastic differential equations(SDEs) governing processes that takes values in the dual of countably Hilbertian nuclear space such as $S'(R^d)$ studied by many authors(e.g [M],[KM]). Let M be a martingale measure defined by Walsh[W], then M can be considered as a $S'(R^d)$-valued process in a certain condition i.e. M has a version of $S'(R^d)$-valued martingale process. (See [W] for detailed discussion)
