  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine underlying types of developmental trajectories of adaptation to child care among infants and toddlers. This study also aimed to identify latent classes in their child care adaptation types in order to find predictors that account for individual differences. Methods: Participants were 420 mothers of infants and toddlers and 123 teachers. The levels of child care adaptation of participating infants and toddlers were rated monthly from early April to June, 2019. The collected data were analyzed using growth mixture modeling, latent class analysis and multinominal logistic analysis. Results: The results of growth trajectories of child care adaptation showed there were two to four latent groups by dimension of child care adaptation. Also, the groups of individual dimensions of child care adaptation were classified into three latent classes, which were 'complying and positive group', 'negative group', and 'individualized group. Multinominal logistic analysis revealed that children's age, gender, and temperament differentiated the three latent classes of adaptation to child care. Conclusion/Implications: The results show individual characteristics that infants and toddlers possess should be prudently considered in order for successful adaptation to child care.

Qualities on 5 factors of infant day-care centers were ranged from 3.44∼4.35, the highest with health managing and the lowest with support system in the Likert 5-point scales. Sensitivity, developmental stimulation and positive regard to child, which are the caregiver's positive interactions with infants were rated minimally or usually characteristic. Methods: 51 children and their caregivers from socially vulnerable group and 69 children and their caregivers from general group are selected as research participants. Data were collected through home visiting survey by 10 professional nurses. Results: Children from socially vulnerable group are at higher risks of poor health care and safety accidents in households than general group. Rates of taking developmental screening tests, medical check-up remain considerably low in vulnerable social group. Regarding home safety, vulnerable children are more likely to be exposed to unsafe conditions. Conclusion: These results indicate that in order to promote health care and safety conditions for vulnerable children, it is necessary to implement customized visiting health care programs which actually can reach vulnerable households and meet their demands. These findings can be used as baseline data to develop customized visiting health care programs for children.
